Gauging by the other cars that 50 was not so old and yet look at the misaligned molding on the rear door. In 2020, I make an effort to properly align mines

I had a feeling you would like this one!  And I agree with you about the molding -- the door is closed, it's not ajar.  The molding is just badly aligned.

This reminds me of a riddle from my youth.

 

"When is a door not a door?"  Answer: "When it's ajar."

 

But I think if you look closely at the photo, the door in question here is firmly closed.  It's just the molding that doesn't line up.
