I really love this color but this seems pricey.  Can anyone chime in on anything they see wrong (aside from the speakers in the package tray)?

Missing the horn bar. The engine is wrong for a “Riviera GS”. Should look like this (photo taken from the ROA,s website “How to ID a Gran Sport.”) There’s no unique Production Code for a GS engine unless it’s one of the 179 factory 2x4 cars, but the GS option included the dress up options shown.

Looks like someone stuck GS emblems on the fenders and added a second snorkel to the stock air cleaner housing.  I like where the seller says:

It is a pretty car, however.  It would be interesting to hear their argument for calling it a GS...

Looks like some damage down low on the passenger fender and trim. Upholstery tight as a  . The a/c compressor should be a two belt pulley, i like the dual snorkel air cleaner fabricating job. The  car sits nice as it should for it's ambitious list price. The pitting of the exhaust manifolds begs underbody pictures.

If it’s not a real GS, which consensus says it’s not, then you only need to find the correct air cleaner.  Gene Guarnere has reproduction horn bars.  I looked as closely as I could at the a/c compressor and didn’t see a two grove pulley on it.  Without two belts, a single belt will slip. That means the water pump is pumping correctly nor is the alternator keeping the battery charged.

Contact the seller and insist on a picture of the Fisher Body data plate.  Once you have all the correct information, you’ll have lots of room to haggle on a price.

I’d wait to hear from the seller before even thinking about it. If he’s trying to pawn off a non-GS as a true GS, what else is trying to pull off. Ask for the name of the person he bought it from so you can learn some history. If he won’t give it to you, you’ll know something is up.

I copied this from the ROAs website,  so you are correct, there should be a GS script on the glove box.

If you ever see "GS Riviera," it is incorrect, correct should be “Riviera GS”. It's true regardless of what side it's on. There were no GS emblems used on the rear of the 66-69 models, unlike the '65 models. In 1966 the words "Riviera GS" appeared on the wood trim attached to the glove box door. The letters are in a block style like those used on the fenders. Despite what some dealer brochures listed this was the last year that the GS marking appeared in the interior.

The transmission was the same as the modified option offered in 1965, with a "BS" code on the I.D. plate. All 66-75 GS models had a positive transaction differential and heavy-duty suspension. The 3.42:1 axle ratio was standard on the GS.

Have the seller take a picture of the transmission tag and the posi tag on the rear end and send you the picture.  Put him on the spot. You have access to better information than he does.  Maybe someone else can be more specific about the price difference between this car and a true GS.

Here is a link from BAT, back in early 2017.  I'm pretty sure it's the same vehicle.

Thanks, that answers many questions.  Both paint and interior colors have been changed from original.  Wheels appear to be later ('71-up) with spacers.  Plain spare suggests this car came with wheel covers.  This car was 'tweaked' by a previous owner to their taste.  Still a nice looking Riviera, but not as originally built.

Yeah after seeing the photos from Bringatrailer I'm not certain this is the car for me.  Its clean but I see quite a bit of pitting on the trim and it being a faked car I doubt I'd want to pay anything near what they want for it.  The search continues.

Take a look at the ROAs website. www.rivowners,org.  Two items. One is in the Articles in The Riview link.,”How to ID a Gran Sport.” The other is a link to “Rivieras for sale.”  Look at the source of the ad.  ROA members will have their ROA number in the ad.  Others will be identified as REF for reference or DEALER.  Probably a better idea of value and actual ownership.

The only thing that I see that’s not OE is the placement of the radio antenna. From the factory, it would have been on the right front fender.

Good catch!  Thats still enough for me to go meh.  Cars gotta be 100% oem in my book.  Sure this is relatively minor but I'm wondering why they didnt just replace the antenna in the original factory location?

To be factory correct, you'd have to fill one hole, drill another, and try to match the paint. 😱

So since were in Kalamazoo next year, how do we get them to bring out the Silver Arrow ( and anything else )? I would Love to see it in person.

Have not seen them for a looooong time. That's a question for Ray Knott, ROA's Director. Contact him through the website.  But, as witnessed by the earlier post, most of these cars have been liquidated from the collection.

If memory serves me correctly, the last time GM transported/displayed any of its cars at an ROA meet was in 2008, Galena, IL.
