  1. I'm still looking into it but I found out they make a small heat pump device, some are window or through the wall and others are free standing inside with a duct through the wall to outside. Prices seem to go from around $400 for a small free standing to $800 or so for a bigger through the wall unit. I only heat a 12'X30' area that is well insulated with only a small outside door. I have a lare inside door to move in project cars from the main part of the barn. I figured there are as many days that I cut my shop time short because it is to hot as to cold. These units would give me heat and cool. If it gets so cold that I have to switch to electric or some other back up I just wouldn't work that day or fire up my current system, a free standing KeroSun header and a small electric. Once I get it up to temperature I can maintain on either by itself.
  2. Bad photo and a low res poor scan. A higher res scan might take a little more restoration if it is the only photo you have of your Dad. Here is what I could do with what you posted.
  3. I get Old Cars as more of a newspaper for more current hobby news, I skip a lot of their articles. Unfortunately the lead time is still on the long side even with a weekly mailing. I have continued by finding someone to partner with on the subscription. I would have dropped it by now if I was paying the full ride. I have split the subscription for years, changing the partner from time to time. I love Hemmings Classic Cars. Dan Strohl's Hemmings Blog has filled in a lot of my day to day needs, I check it every day along with the forums here. Need an online daily that covers more hobby news. Probably out there and I just haven't found it.
  4. Hemmings tried to get in to the online parts and cars business but they don't seem to publicizes it and it has not taken off. They pushed it out of testing about a year ago. Classic and Collectible Parts For Sale | Hemmings Motor News
  5. Mike, I guess we crossed paths before because I have yours on my list. Thanks
  6. I am the FarmOroad advisor and keeper of the FOR registry for the Crosley Auto Club. I would be happy to try to answer questions if you have them. I would like to record your serial number and name and rough location in our registry. You may find this link helpful if you haven't already found it. <Details on FarmOroad> Feel free to contact me directly at Jim@Bollman.com

    Crosley?

It is a Super model with roll up windows which came out in 1950.
  8. Sadly the few great old hardwares have pretty much closed around here. The one in small town Ohio, where I grew up, is now an antique mall but still has the wall of small drawers that must go up 14 feet or more with the rolling steps to get that hard to find part, all empty now. We were in Mt Airy NC this past spring and stopped in a small old time hardware store right downtown and figured it was there for the tourist but was wrong. Run by an old fellow that knew where everything was. I need a key made for our camper (wife had left hers at home), last time I needed one I had to buy it at a camper dealer, none of the modern hardwares had the blanks, yep they had them. I aso need a couple of wood screws for a repair on the camper. Total out the door was something like $3.
  9. I have only shown in the driver class and have no plans in changing that, but have always wondered why when a car can fit in more than one judged class the owner doesn't have a choice. Seems like if the owner decides when more the one class fits, everyone would be happy. This first came to mind when they were putting the Crosley Hotshot and Super Sports in the production class instead of the sports car class. Of course now it is in class 4.
  10. Had that problem with a Ranchero I use to have and two cats. Bought a form fitting cover for it to keep the tracks off and they used the cover over the bed for a hammock. It would get so dirty over the WInter that I had to wash the cover every spring. When I sold the Ranchero and bought the 1950 Ford F1 Stake bed, I bought the cover before I brought it home. Must be to much work for them to get up that high they never walked on it.
  11. Really liked the picture of Harrington's Garage so I cleaned it up a little.
  12. I get many of the same questions that have been covered, but here is one of my favorits and it has happened twice. My 50 F1 stake bed has nice heavy fiberglass front fenders. The previous owner used them because good ones are hard to find and he was building a driver. I don't mind it at all and they look fine. Two different times people have stood there talking to me and rapped their knuckles on the fender and say, "thy don't make steel like that anymore". The first time I started to tell them they were fiberglass but stopped myself and just said they sure don't, trying not to laugh. Did hesitate the second time.
  13. Boston Blackie was good at this to. I remember one show where a late 40s early 50s custom convertible supposedly went over a cliff. When they showed the shot with the car tumbling down the cliff it turned into a 30's sedan patched in from some old movie.
  14. Your Edsel project sounds like what I plan for redoing my 49 Crosley wagon. I did a mechanical restoration (body off) when I was in high school, but just did the minimum to the body because I wanted to get it on the road. Did the same thing in the mid 70s. Now it needs it agan and was thinking about doing it right, but keep telling myself it will not be my high school cruiser then, so I have decided to do the mechanical again for the 3rd time and just clean up the body and leave it a little ratty.
  15. Unfortunately I only have this in low res, not sure where I stole it from. I think I have another shot somewhere, I will look.
  16. Can't help with your problem but my Dad had a 56 4dr with the "T-Bird" engine, when I was a teenager. It was very used when we got it but he was proud of that T-Bird engine. First car we ever had with seat belts and my Dad was sold on the idea. We never owned a car after that with out them, either already installed or added. I had great plans when I turned 16 and would get to drive this powerful beast. My father was a step ahead of me and a few months before I turned 16 he traded in the 56 for a 60 Comet wagon with 6cyl engine, also used and very slow compared to the 56. Just as well since I was already working on the 49 Crosley wagon to be my driver and I would probably have been spoled for life driving the powerful 56.
  17. Welcome, you are among others afflicted with the autoholic problem. Discussions tend to stay in the stock original form, so you may get some hassle on the rat rod project. Not saying there are not a few closet rod people on board it's just the forums are owned and operated by AACA and their goals are to preserve not modify. If you actually found a Edsel Villager in restorable condition it would be a shame to rod such a rare model. Then again there are a lot of rusty hulks that restorers would not touch and prime candidates and you may have some left over extra parts that the restorers would buy and help fund your projects.
  18. I only lived a block from High School so I didn't drive to school, but I drove my 49 Crosley Wagon when I was in High School. Still have it, I need to go through it again to get it back on the road. Bought it when I was 14 and then spent 2+ years rebuilding it mechanically, body off, frame striped bare rebuild. Got in a hurry once the body was back on to get it done and did a Western Auto rattle can paint job. Redid the mechanics in the mid 70s and found the same color rattle cans at Western Auto to freshen up the paint. :-)
  19. The one I still think about was way back in the 70s. We use to stay over till Sunday mornings to head home and Saturday night a fellow came up and offered us a deal on a Jeepster, was nice looking but had been updated with a small V8 (don't remember what). He had brought a load of cars down to sell and bought one more than he sold and was offering the Jeepster real cheap (stupid cheap). I didn't think to hard about it because I had no way to get it home. Was on my way home when I thought for the money he was asking I could have found a place to park it for a a couple of weeks till I could come back for it and still be ahead or take an extra day off from work and get temporary tags on it and had the wife follow me home.
  20. From the album: Other Makes

Local gas engine show that is close enough to make multiple trips to haul everything to.
