  1. Kerry, are you talking about laminate or LVT (luxury vinyl tile). All of the LVT that I've seen has been advertised as 'waterproof' and is available in lots of colors and faux finishes (e.g., wood planks and stone/tile).
  2. Looks good. So, please refresh my memory; are the two carbs slaved together (i.e., working in tandem) or is it a progressive linkage (one opens ahead of the other). I thought you said that you were using the former configuration.
  3. Have you ever seen any bubbles on the dipstick when you check it hot? As I said, I'm just reaching for anything I can think of. I'm afraid that everything will be pure conjecture unless you are able to get some pressure readings to support a thoughtful diagnosis.

  5. Well, if you can still find somewhere that does it, you could take the car to a shop that balances the wheel/tire assembly on the car. Downside is you'll need to re-balance if you rotate the tires (or swap wheel covers). OTOH, if you do find such a shop, they could balance a wheel sans the cover and then repeat the process with each wheel cover installed in turn. That would identify the heavy spot and the amount of weight needed to balance each one. You may be able to try the same process if you know anyone with an old bubble-type wheel balancer. Failing that, I might be tempted to rig something like what is used to balance lawnmower blades and check each wheel cover. Maybe use stick-on wheel weight tape in a void on backside of the cover at the circumference...?
  6. Agree, however, I have seen trailers where each individual chain was twisted and then crossed, presumably to shorten them and keep from dragging. Best, however, to just remove any unnecessary links.

  8. Sorry to hear that; I'm sure you have gone back over your path(s) several times combing the weeds along the roadside searching for them...
  9. The Cadillac 4.5L used in the '87 - '92 Allante' and the 4.6L (Northstar) used in the '93 Allante' (and later Cadillacs) are totally different engine designs with no parts interchangeability.

  11. Purely a guess, but could there be a pump problem (e.g., wear?) that causes foaming of fluid followed by expulsion via the dipstick tube? If so, and the issue is wear related, then a viscosity improver (i.e., additive) might help make-up for increased internal clearances. If it is caused by hardened/shrunken seals or O-rings, then a high mileage transmission 'conditioner' (such as the Lucas or STP, or even 3 or 4 ounces of DOT3 brake fluid) could help. Has the transmission ever been rebuilt? Have you had anyone check the line pressures as Willie and others mentioned above?
  12. FWIW, as others have said (e.g., Neil) I believe SMS stocks the appropriate Bedford Cord material; it is pretty widely used in this era of cars. That said, SMS isn't known for their customer service and it will still be relatively expensive. If your source is less expensive, more readily available and looks as you expect, then you certainly free to go that route. As I said earlier, though, I would talk to your upholsterer and have him/her measure your interior and give you their material estimate given the bolt size of the material that you select. Otherwise, any material shortage is on you...
  13. I agree, there may not be anything 'wrong', per se, but the possible causes are worth looking into while the engine is apart.
  14. Would those be for use with a weight distribution hitch? In fact, with that trailer I'd recommend a weight distribution hitch first; you may find that you don't need the additional sway control. I use a Curt weight distribution hitch with my 24" enclosed Pace American (10,000# GWR) and have had no sway issues.

  16. They call it a "wasted spark" system. It wears out your spark plugs twice as fast!
  17. It would be best to give the upholsterer the fabric bolt information (i.e., 36") or whatever the usable width turns out to be. The only downside might be additional seams in the cover if the piece requires additional width.

  19. Someone on TV stated that the shadow was traveling across the earth's surface at 1500 mph! Even without seeing the corona in person it was still a neat experience.
  20. Totality here for about a minute, but only saw a sliver just before and again just after totality due to the @%$* clouds! Still, it was eerie having darkness fall so quickly - saw a beautiful 'sunset' band on the horizon just below the clouds for the 180° I could see looking north. That's the first and last total eclipse I'll experience...

  22. You could try placing the end of your unlit (valve open) propane torch there instead of spraying starting fluid.

  24. Older material (except for leather) isn't ethanol-tolerant and could cause trouble, if age alone wasn't to blame. The accelerator pump diaphragm in my Riviera lets me know whenever it detects ethanol in the fuel! I have a new one (blue colored) I bought awhile ago to install , but since I run ethanol-free 99% of the time I haven't put this task on my 'must-do ASAP' list...
  25. Maybe shoes rubbing an out-of-round drum? If you have a set of brake diameter calipers you could check them when cold. There's a runout spec in the shop manual. If you can separate the drum from the hub you could invert the drum and check with a dial indicator. Given that the sound goes away when everything warms-up and you don't feel any pulsing in the brake pedal I'd just inspect everything (which it sounds like you have done) and monitor the situation. Swapping tires front-to-back as suggested above would be a good thing to try, just to confirm or refute a tire issue.
