  1. What kind/brand of head gasket did you use? Do you recheck torque after that initial start (after cool-down) before buttoning everything up for the last time?
  2. Would look good on this... https://www.ebay.com/itm/266678332412?itmmeta=01HQWF4NNFX5W9E7JQAK7XK53Z&hash=item3e17446bfc:g:kLMAAOSwPUJlz71v&itmprp=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4DNmXH%2FOCvhpcbtFvb9j8s2Na9rKhouTVU8uzgmSt8d595PdRuFfZtObEPEQkw1iTxLl1MTGmstrf9jFa6llThhX2fp1uicXtFg1KiZbigN1XMxZfCX525CxF%2FjfGKNtW671pe2%2BvhkpJpwVpSGFgLtxW5UNCyl%2FyXNG%2B8v2dalxbQ7%2FdfWujduP%2BTzKBhEP0m8fOztV6JX3Ug1Cu8yLWdk6gDUY9IYB09wZVieqR10Bwbr7Rl%2BXF9zUyU3vovUuHLjdHt30TSy4uJj9cLEivxhQ1E4vkKI0uzDUqsrKlqFk|tkp%3ABk9SR-bako-_Yw&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338071934&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1
  3. Strong money for an '83, but ultra-low mileage and nice looking colors.
  4. Ha - I thought you were going to say: "the difference between a mechanic and a surgeon is that the surgeon washes his hands before performing the operation."
  5. I think ACC is probably your best (or only) option... https://www.accmats.com/commerce/1961/Buick/Invicta/Flooring/1450/
  6. Do you feel the steering wheel move in or out when the 'clunk' occurs?
  7. Were you ever able to open-up the Niehoff VR? Probably needs the same contact treatment that you gave the DR one...
  8. Well, I wouldn't totally give up on it. I would consider installing a bung in the exhaust pipe closer to the manifold so that the gauge could be installed temporarily for diagnosis or tuning purposes. Together with other tools (e.g., timing light, dwell meter, vacuum gauge, etc.) I think it would be useful.
  9. I guess that would be a meta-metaphor. I watch for nested acronyms.
  10. I think the YnZ harness should be a reproduction of the original, so hopefully the wire markings match the originals. If not, then you'll need documentation from YnZ, or you'll have to ring-out the harness wire-by-wire with an Ohm meter.
  11. I've never seen a map light on a mirror that old - must be one of the first attempts by GM. It would certainly be cool to get it working and installed in the Wildcat!
  12. Try using a Mighty-Vac to pull vacuum on the EGR port. If it doesn't hold vacuum, then the diaphragm is bad and that will cause a lean condition. While the valve is off, clean the pintle with carburetor cleaner and make sure it closes without sticking.
  13. The new price seems more in-line with reality. Even though it looks good, with 100K miles, I'd be looking to buy this car somewhere around $6500...
  14. I have YOM plates on 3 of my classics in NY. I bought them on Ebay in good condition and sent pics to the DMV as required before applying a couple of coats of clear just to restore the luster. They look as they did new.
  15. That's good - where did you find them?
  16. It's definitely worth a look. Hopefully any rust is incidental any you can clean it up yourself, or professionally at a reasonable cost. The good news is not being particularly rare or low mileage means you can give it the TLC it needs and drive it everywhere! As a '91, it is modern enough to make a comfortable AACA or VMCCA touring car - with decent gas mileage to boot!
  17. Not necessarily - it could be 'lazy'... As long as it outputs a voltage within the expected range the PCM won't set a fault code. Check for vacuum leaks; the PCM could be trying to cover a lean condition caused by a vacuum leak. Check at all of the hoses and try shooting some carburetor cleaner along the intake manifold gaskets (hint: is there evidence of any coolant seepage at the intake manifold/head interface?).
  18. A good wet/dry shop-vac should be able to suck most of the water out. Put it in the sun for an hour or two to dry the jute padding.
  19. Interesting - what did it say at warm idle?
  20. Once it's in your driveway, you're free to do whatever you want to it. I'm not saying what you described wouldn't work; I was merely trying to explain why the dealer didn't want to do it for you.
  21. I'd want to see the cowl tag before accepting that it's an original black car.
