  1. Thank you , Spinneyhill, Sometimes I do not readily remember names. You see I am 83 and a half and cannot keep my hands clean, must get it greasy. Have been a grease monkey since the age of 16.
  2. Roger Walling has a good idea. Also run the plug with a pipe die and use Gasoila..
  3. When I buy from US vendors I specify USPS. It takes a little longer but I am in no hurry. UPS charges brokers fee. For a forty dollars item the brokers fee is 27 dollars. Even the driver advised me not to use UPS. Parts over 25 years old are considered antique and are not subject to duty. There may be a small inspection fee by customs. Anything considered antique is duty free. If charged by mistake you get a refund. I do not buy from evil bay. They add some kind of import duty on the price. What import? The maximum allowed into Canada without having to pay import duty was 50 dollars and I think that is increased. So why are Canadian customers paying custom duty when buying from evil bay? Who is getting that money ? Not the Canadian Government, of course.
  4. I do not know if this will work. My DB speedo pot metal was cracked all over and I got a reproduction from Meyers Early Dodge. Made with aluminium . "reproduction guys " in Australia does reproductions. Reproduces stuff for almost any car including foreign. .Go to Meyers early Dodge site and you can access "Reproductions" from there.. But any purchase will have to be through Meyers. SEND THE BROKEN PARTS TO MEYERS, WHO WILL FORWARD IT TO AUSTRALIA. AND THEY WILL MAKE IT WITH ALUMINIUM OR WHATEVER metal IS REQUIRED. They reproduced a complete UX2 carburetor for me. and a gas gauge base..
  5. What is the size of the Split rim ? I am looking for a colapseable rim 19 1nch wood spoke wheel. It is 4 and a half wide lip to lip. Can you show me a picture of what you have please ?
  6. Myers Early Dodge, Phone # cell, 734 341 6139. for parts. Cindy Meyers is a great lady . She will respond . Go to your website and prompt Meyers Early Dodge and you will get them. They are also the agent for Reproductions in Australia. Roma does not respond and does not seem too eager to ship outside the US.
  7. Can you give some more information ? Like the serial # on the frame ? Toe board? engine number and picture of the Rad or what style body ? That will help. Cheers
  8. Since you are restoring a car/truck, gas tank my guess it is for the long haul. I would steam clean it to get all the smell out and ship it to a reputable tank restorer. Might be able to cut/patch the bad spots. Galvanize it if possible. In most cases money is a deciding factor. Do it right the first time. Saves a lot of headache in the long run. Good luck.
  9. I pre drill and use a touch of grease at the tip of the screw. It goes in easier If put too much and it spit out at the head wipe it off with a wet varsol cloth. Of course there night be areas where it must be avoided. The reason I suggest greasing is when I removed screws form my 28 DB the threads were so rusted and some so rusty that it just turned without backing out. Even the holes were rusted. They were mostly countersunk flat slotted screws I collected all the screws bolts washers and nuts , put them in a can and topped up with vaporrust . And did they came out beautiful. I was able to reuse the half inch bolts and nuts that holds the wood sill to the frame. WANT to reuse the old screws in the same old holes ? Easy. Drill the holes oversize and plug them. Most of the screw heads were damaged while removing. I tried using # 6 x a 1/4 from Home Depot to replace them but the heads do not go in far enough., Sticks out . Chinese made. I will try Restoration Supplies. Almost all the wood in the DB will be covered. Nothing showing . Maybe other models will have wood exposed , will probably have to be highlighted. That is a different case. With all due respect to fellow bloggers.
  10. I have great success removing oil and grease with varsol. It is helful to have a container to catch the "wash." Varsol is used as a paint thinner so it is safe to paint over newly varsol washed parts. After removing rust with wire wheel wash with varsol or paint thinners before painting Sit the "dirty varsol" a few days and all the dirt settles . Makes good recycling.
  11. Vaporust is safe to use, You can wash your hands with it. Remove grease and oil before using. I used it many times . It is very good especially if you want to reuse original bolts, nut screws, washers. Economical way is to put all parts to de rust in a tomato juice can or pop can, depending on the amount of parts, and just put enough to drown them. Leave them overnight. Check daily . If the liquid turns black discard and use fresh one. If after use the liquid is still good you can reuse. Very large pieces might be difficult unless you have a receptacle large enough .I used a bench wire wheel to remove rust from my 28 DB drive shaft and steering drag links.

    BLEEDING BRAKES

These are excellent advice. May be I lose patient , but no. I think Frank Duval hit the nail on the head. The Master cylinder is bolted on to the frame , below the floor board. It is lower than the bleeder screws on the wheel cylinders making gravity feed near impossible.. These DB wheels are tall and have 14 inch wheel drums. The shoes are well adjusted.. The thing with Teflon tape is there is always a danger pieces breaking and falling into somewhere. The Teflon paste is now available in toothpaste type tube. Thank you all gentlemen. It is a great session
  13. Take them apart. It looks like your DB has mechanical brakes. Use vapourust .You may have to wire brush to help the vaporust. Follow the instruction on the can. I have great results with that stuff. You may paint with any rust inhibitor. You can do the springs like in some Rolls Royce . Grease the springs and sew oil soaked leather around the. .
  14. I was looking at Evaporust at a vendor's booth years ago and was talking to the vendor when a bystander said you might as well use Coke sweet drink. I use Evaporust to clean small parts from my 28 DB. Just dunk the parts and leave over night. It is really good for irregular shaped object. Excellent for cleaning valuable and antique stuff.. It is better to put object to clean in a container with a cap. to prevent evaporation . Check periodically for cleanness. Wash objects with water and blow dry immediately. If you did not wash immediately dot be afraid . The objects can remain for weeks until washed. Liquid can be reused until it turns black.. If the objects look black after removing from liquid just brush with a fine wire brush. .It is the best invention next to slice bread
  15. Before installing a split pin run a drill through the hole and smear a little grease in the hole. Installation of every nut bolt and even wood screws should be smeared . I find using a smear of grease on wood screws take less pressure to sink the head in.
  16. Rubber bumpers are what I call them. The are on the door post.. I bought them from Steeles Rubber seals. Beautiful. The brass jams for the door locks and the brass guide I bought from Myers Early Dodge, Reproductions from Australia. If you have any white metal (pot) you would like to replace just send them ,even pieces to Cindy Meyers . She will send them to "Reproduction" in Australia. The do most in stainless steel. The water jacket for the 28 DB is also reproduced . Transaction must go through Myers Early Dodge. Cindy has a beautiful website, No scam here.
  17. Here are pictures of 1928 dodge senior 19 inch rim I am looking for. Please phone Harry @905 889 0621 or email hsahu8034@gmail.com or leave message in message box. Thank you.
  18. I had a 41 Buick with a Sonomatic Radio. I bought it from some one from California . He was a member of Buick Of America Club. I do not know if they still exist. The official dealer for Buick radio parts and repairs in Canada is Mr. Harold McQueen in Brighton , Ontario. I bought electronic vibrator and replacement used transformer from him. Of late he is not in the best of health . His Phone number is 613 4754257
  19. When dealers lie to customers they lose credibility. Credibility is something you cannot buy.
  20. 1928 Dodge Brothers Senior 4 door sedan. I work alone, no help. I tried using a tube with the end in a can with brake fluid and the other end stuck to the bleeder screw, I push the pedal once to give the flow a start. There was little flow .I did the 4 wheels the same way one at a time and the pedal came up a little. The pedal is spongy at best and this system of bleeding does not seem to work on this particular model master cylinder. I have no choice but to get some one to pump the pedal for me. THE QUESTION IS WHY. Can some one explain, please ? Thank you.
  21. 6 volts batteries made today gives better service than of yesteryear. After 5 months sitting with no activity for the winter I use a shop battery charger to start the 28 DB 6. It seems to me the generator does a better job than the shop charger. The battery is under the drivers seat. The cables used is 2 zero welding cables. I think the secret is to use a higher CCA , if it fits, and a battery tender helps a lot. Keep it charged. Slow charging extends the life of a battery.
  22. Their website says "usually reply the next day" This word "usually" has a wide, varied meaning. It is a clue to scamming. I am still awaiting a "reply" I reported this transaction to my credit card company and asked them to reverse the charges. They are doing just that, I hope. Cheers. Harry in Canada.
  23. What about 'restoration supply' in California ? They have all types of reproductions .
  24. What kind of car? Can you give us some more information, please
  25. Nice car. You are sure to get lots of help on this forum. Great guys. Meyers Early Dodge website has a list of Dodges and the year of manufacture but I am not sure if the dates are that early. Check it out.
