  1. No... the rebuild was done by a mechanic that I've known for over 30 years... The truck was running fine....... while driving it one day, I accelerated hard going up an incline, that's when the issue with the idle started.... I mention this to my mechanic and he believed that the accelerator pump on the carb failed...at this point we decided to do the rebuild. He did adjust the idle mixture screws and check vacuum as well. Vacuum advance is operating from manifold. But I would have to ask him about the float if that was included in the rebuild kit.
  2. Sure.... 1969 Chevrolet C-20 pick up truck... engine is a 350 / 255 hp with a Turbo 400 automatic transmission... it has 88,000 original miles on it, purchased it last August....work done since I've purchase it: all fluids and filters have been change, hose and belts, valve cover gaskets, new exhaust system, new brake flex lines.... and just recently the carb rebuild. The HEI was installed by previous owner. Just a nice old truck that was used for camping.
  3. Joe, the float is open fully.... the quadrajet was completely rebuilt last week. I don't have a float gauge, so that is something I need to look into. I did increase the timing again ( between 10 &12 ) it sounded great, went for a test run and sure enough, on the ride back home, engine idle sounded different / decrease.. Just wondering... by increasing the timing, will that cause the engine to run hot ? Thanks for your input.
  4. Ongoing issue with my 1969 C20...after driving the truck for 10 to 15 mins, the engine idle seems to drop to the point that it might stall out while at a stop light. I had the quadrajet rebuilt, I bumped up the timing from 4' BTDC to 10' BTDC....and I increase the rpm's. The truck starts up fine and runs great , but like I mention, once it's warmed up, that's when I start having issues. The engine set up is a 350 / 255HP with a turbo 400 transmission - all original, with the exception of a Delco-Remy hei that the previous owner had added. Any thoughts ? Thanks
  5. I agree.... trucks are very hot now. I purchased my 1969 C20 Chevrolet last August for $12500.... as I was having the State Inspection done, owner of the building offered $18000 for it, as is. Steve
  6. I ended up using the "step drill bit" and finished it up with the Dremel..... turned out great ! Also as a side note, I had a hard time trying to align the passenger side fender. Using the body shims, I still could not get the proper gap between door and fender. Then I realized that the radiator support bushings were never replaced when the body bushings were replaced by previous owner. New radiator support bushings were installed and that made all the difference in attaining proper gap. Steve
  7. Question: I need to drill out a hole on the top of the passenger side front fender for the radio antenna mast. Due to the size of the hole, I don't want to drill, for fear of tearing the metal..... is there a tool out there that could punch out a perfect hole without damaging the surrounding metal ? Thanks !
  8. Hershey has been on my "bucket list" for years. Finally after years of family functions and a crazy work schedule, the wife and I decided over the weekend that this would be the year ! I mailed out the registration on Monday and I'm going to bring my 1969 Impala and have it judged in the HPOF class. Very excited and looking forward to going. Steve
  9. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it ! Registration is going out tomorrow for Hershey. Steve
  10. I'm considering showing my 1969 Impala at some point, but to be considered in the HPOF class, does the vehicle must retain all of it's original paint or a percentage ? When I purchased the vehicle 14 years ago, it had 4900 original miles and it looked like the rear quarter might of been touched up at some point in it's life. Other than that, everything else looks original on the vehicle. Thanks
  11. Still on with the search..... any help will be appreciated !
  12. Interesting topic regarding green color autos / trucks. I purchased my 1969 Impala off of ebay 14 years ago. The auction ran twice for the duration and it did not sell. I ended up contacting the seller after the auction completed , made an offer and was accepted... ended up with an original Impala with 4900 miles. Same deal with my 1969 C-20 pick up truck, it was listed on Hemming web site for a long time, called up, made an offer and was accepted. Something about those light color greens that I just really like...
  13. It's been a few years, but I wanted to share some updates...Quarter panel repair work was done by Jeff over at Penn-Dutch Restorations...trunk extensions and wheel wells had to be fabricated. The patch work on the quarters were taken from a section of a sedan quarters that I received when the car was purchased. Currently , I'm working on the front end, installing nos fenders / checking proper alignment and transferring all of the attachment locations from the original fenders body molding and scripts to the new ones. Some before and after pictures:

  17. Thanks guys for the information, I appreciate it. I remember him speaking about Crestliner, Saratoga and Karmann Ghia's that he had during the 50's...But I do remember the Covair's and Impalas during the 1960's when I came along !
  18. Here is my Dad... I'm not sure what year this is, he was born in 1931, so maybe he is 6 or 7 years old?? And the car behind him... I'm not sure of the make.... any ideas ? The other picture is his first car that he purchased after serving in the Navy ... 1955 or 1956 Ford. Dad passed in 2000, but thanks to him, I enjoy working and driving these vintage autos ! Happy Father's Day
  19. Outstanding work.... Jeff's team of craftsmen worked on my '69 Impala SS... Top notch!! Steve
