  1. The demonstration that I viewed, they were using the slurry of crushed glass media and water. The areas that I was considering for blasting was the frame and suspension parts. Thanks again for the comments, I appreciate the insight to this topic! Steve
  2. I believe they use recycle bottle glass..... They will actually come right to your house and perform the blasting in your driveway.
  3. I seen this the other night on the internet, I was interested to see if any of the members here has used this type of media blasting on their projects. This type of blasting is new to me... my last project, we used sand blasting, but this was 10 years ago and the industry has change. I'm just trying to get an idea before I start my project in the coming months. Thanks
  4. Very nice... I believed I looked at this Impala before it was painted - turned out beautiful, good luck with the sale ! Steve
  5. How did I miss seeing this driving around in my area?? She is a beauty !! Good Luck with the sale. Steve
  6. That brings back memories.... my Uncle had a light blue with white top & interior.... what a beautiful automobile! Good Luck with the sale.
  7. "1971 EC still on its original owner, in good condition and bone stock down to its beige paint, 250 six/3-speed and wheelcovers with whitewalls"..... That's what I'm talking about, to me that is cool!! Exactly what Rocketraider said, " A nice unmodified (dare I say unmolested?) ElCamino is harder to find than a big Chevy" These unmolested vehicles should be the focus point of the car show circuits... it's nice that I can bring one of my youngest kids to a show and let them see what a original vehicle looks like, like when I was that age!
  8. So I asked the following question about a week ago: " I watched the latest installment of FAST N LOUD on demand tonight, what I saw was heart-breaking, to say the least. A numbers matching, low mileage 1968 Chevrolet Impala Custom Coupe ( that appeared to be all original ) had it's small block and suspension removed in favor of a big block crate engine and drop spindles. Why? This old Chevrolet was absolutely beautiful the way it was... it could of been driven on any show field and be admired for it's originality. I'm into the full size Chevrolets from this time period ( '67 thru '70 ) and when you come across a vehicle in this condition, that has "survived" all these years, just to be torn apart for profit is discouraging. " Well, I went on demand last night and watch ( fast forward ) the follow up episode regarding the '68... The Impala sold at auction for around $48K. Between purchasing the Impala and doing the upgrades, they had invested around $26K into the car... after transporting and auction fees, I think they cleared around $18K. So it comes down to profit... is this the message that we are giving to the general public regarding our classics / antique automobiles ? Was this just a fluke since it was a high-end auction / televised ? I would hate to think that down the road when some of our classic become available for purchase, that these types of "upgrades" are done, just simply to make a huge profit. Just venting..... Steve
  9. There was a program on the old TNN network back in the 1990's called "Shadetree Mechanic", I found the 30min show very informative, they took on the every day mechanical issues that the regular guy / gal would experience with their own vehicles and presented in a very informative way on how to make the repairs. It might of been broadcast on PBS as well... Steve
  10. Rocketraider - Try "searchtempest.com"..... I normal pull up this web site a few times during the week to see what's out there regarding the '69 models ( Biscayne, Bel Air, Caprice and Impala ) . Believe me, they are out there... GM built many of them, it's just a matter of finding the right one! Steve
  11. I can't do that Dale, the GM Gods would come and strike me down! ( plus the engine is not broken in yet.... lol ) Steve
  12. Thanks Bleach.... back at you, my Dad had a '56 Ford... awesome car ! Steve
  13. Thank you Helfen, I appreciate your reply! Steve
  14. Our mission statement: America's premiere resource for the collectible vehicle community! Since its inception there has been something about the sight, sound, and feel of the automobile that stirs the imagination and the desire to experience the freedom of the open road. Whether it’s the clatter of the single cylinder brass era car or the heavy thumping of big block Detroit musclecars that fuels the addiction, we are all kindred spirits. Vintage cars, trucks, buses, and motorcycles are our bond.Since 1935, AACA has had one goal: The preservation and enjoyment of automotive history of all types. From National Meets and Tours to Regional events, AACA is here to bring enthusiasts together through exciting National activities, friendship, and Antique Automobile… an award winning 100-page full color magazine. We’re glad you found us. Stay and “nose” around our website and forums. We have something for everyone. You don’t have to own a vehicle or know how to turn a wrench. You can be involved at any level you wish. Whether it’s joining our judging teams, doing research in our vast library, or taking the family through the excitement of a National Meet or Tour, the possibilities are endless. Also make sure you visit the world class AACA Museum here in Hershey, PA the “sweetest city on earth.” So, spend time with us and others sharing your passion. Join up. It's less than the price of a tank of gas and lasts all year. Then check out our Regions and Chapters to find one near you. Get behind the wheel of AACA. We know you’re going to love the ride. As mention in the AACA mission statement "The preservation and enjoyment of automotive history of all types." That's why I joined this organization. If I'd liked Monster Trucks or customized vehicles with chromed out engine / suspension, fuzzy dashboards, undercarriage illuminated etc... I guess I would be involved with that aspect of the automotive hobby.. I prefer this. To each their own.
  15. Not only do they change out the wheels Ray, but I seen some beautiful restored vehicles which had the suspension change as well. Perfect example, last year while at a show, an individual pull onto the show field with a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. The paint on this car was stunning, but what RUINED the overall effect was after-market tires/rims and he had the rear of the car lifted so high, it looked like he was driving down hill on level ground! Not only did he ruined the visual effect but the drivability of the Chevelle as well. He basically ruined the center of gravity of the car, GM did not design their vehicles to be alter in such a way that could be dangerous to the driver and others on the roadways. Steve
  16. Thanks John, yes I know the Leunig's ( Steve, Warren and Steve ) great people and very knowledgeable regarding Chevrolet full size. I'll have to check in with them to see if they are attending the Rhinebeck Antique Car Show here in New York in a few weeks.
  17. Thanks Ray ! They are out there, maybe not as low mileage as this one, I was very fortunate to find this one.
  18. Bleach, you mention the following " I can't remember the last time I've seen an unmolested original 60's Impala, maybe in 1975 when my folks sold their 67 Impala " Here is a photo of my original, unmolested 1969 Impala Custom, I purchased it 10 years ago with 4990 miles on it, it current has 6700 miles. The Impala was runner up in the 2010 Hemmings Motor News New England Concours which was held in Stratton Vermont.
  19. I pulled up the auction results from Barrett-Jackson, sold for $50,600. The garage originally purchased it for $12K, not sure how much went into it..... For sale at auction: Lot #1007.1 - This car was built by Gas Monkey Garage on Discovery's hit show "Fast N' Loud." This car was specifically built on the show to bring to the Barrett-Jackson auction. This car will be featured on an upcoming episode of "Fast N' Loud" in the spring season. The person that purchases the car will be given the opportunity to be filmed purchasing the car for this episode of "Fast N' Loud." This car was already a great platform to start with and in great condition. The exterior of the car has a nice paint job in the factory green color and black vinyl top. We have updated the factory taillights to a factory looking LED taillight. The look of the car has been updated and modernized. The car features all new suspension handled by Ride Tech suspension. It has a front strong arm setup with coilovers and new sway bar. The rear features strong arms with lowering springs, shocks, and sway bar as well. The brakes have been updated to Wilwood 14" rotors for the front with 6 piston calipers and 14" rotors in the rear with 4 piston calipers. The wheels are Intro billet aluminum wheels called the Ram with full polished treatment. The rears are a 22"x10" and the fronts are 20"x8.5" wrapped in Pirelli rubber. The drivetrain features a brand-new GM Performance Fast Burn ZZ5 crate motor rated at 385hp backed by a Powerglide transmission. The cooling system has been updated with a Ron Davis radiator and dual electric fans. This car has power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. The interior is very clean with a factory-looking black leather. This car is a driver and is ready to hit the streets. **TITLE IN TRANSIT**
  20. Matt & Ray, thanks for your input, some good points there! Bleach, you make me laugh.. " I wouldn't watch this show even if I could. Nothing to watch at 11PM? Go to bed. You'll feel better with the extra sleep and maybe wake up earlier to enjoy more of what's worth while in life" Extra sleep, I wish ! LOL.... been working the over night shift close to thirty years now, so when I'm not working / trying to get some rest, I'm running around with my four kids to their sport activities! Take care...
  21. Another aspect would be one less collector car on the market that someone new to the hobby could of got into for a reasonable amount of money...forget that now, I can only guess what that Impala will go for now after it's upgrades.
  22. Joe, I don't consider it a waste of my life at 11pm when there is not much of anything else on ( I guess I can put the news on and get depress watching that )... that particular segment bother me for the share fact that a perfectly good vehicle was dismantle, I really don't mind the program when they purchase barn finds / field vehicles and they bring them back to life, so that aspect of the program I can deal with.
