  1. John, approximately 2455 of the SS427 package were manufactured... not sure if there is a break down of how many 427 full size were produced for model year 1969.... ( Impala, Caprice, Biscayne, Bel Air, Wagons: Brookwood, Townsman, Kingswood ) Steve * Note - Just found some more info... L-72 ( 427 / 425 ) 546 produced L-36 ( 427 / 390 ) 5582 produced LS-1 ( 427 / 335 ) 18308 produced
  2. Thanks ! The winner was a 1973 Chevrolet Vega GT... it was beautiful, still had it's original tires on it I believe... you can see it in this photo.
  3. Good question ! I've had four '69 Impala's at one time, three were 327 and 427.... maybe a member here will chime in with specifics on this. Steve
  4. Thanks James. It has just over 7000 miles now... yes, those grills can crack easy now, due to the age, but original ones are out there...My parents purchased a new 1969 Impala Sport Sedan from the local Chevrolet Dealership in the fall of '69. I was with them when Mom picked it out..... parked all the way in the back of the lot since the '70's were out front. They paid $3000 cash for it...lol Dover White exterior, Black interior and a Black vinyl top.... no a/c.... I can't tell you how hot that car was during the summer months ! The picture I posted above was at the Hemmings Motor News New England Concours d'Elegance in Stratton Mountain, Vermont in 2010... It was runner up in the Preservation category.... Some pictures:
  5. This reminds me of my '69 Impala that I purchased in 2004. It was advertised as a original, 4900 mile vehicle. Two owner vehicle that was located in Audubon, Mn. The individual that was selling it , purchased it from the estate of the second owner... the car just sat in storage and he was just going to flip it. It still has the service sticker in the door jam from 1980 with just over 1000 miles listed ... the original dealership that sold the vehicle did the service on it. Seems crazy how a vehicle just sat, and it's just a Plain Jane vehicle. Steve
  6. I've been using FB for the past 5 or 6 years now... great tool for keeping in touch with my friends and the specialized groups that buy and sell items that pertain to my vehicle interest. I just tried out the FB Market last week... listed my car lift in the morning and was sold that evening. No issues... no scammers like I was having with Ebay and CL. Steve
  7. Just amazing ..... is it safe to call these vehicles " rolling art work " ? Steve
  8. Great info, thanks Mike, I appreciate it ! Steve
  9. Thanks Bob.... It reminded me of a toy Matchbox that I had as a kid.... I googled the name and it came up !
  10. What's the make / model of this vehicle ? What a beauty !! Thanks for all the photos that have been posted.
  11. I asked this question about four years ago about the Wilmington, North Carolina area, since we were going through some "down sizing" at work and possibly looking at relocating. Matthew Hinson was kind enough to give me a lot of information on the region, but as it turns out, I was not affected by the down sizing. Now with retirement on the horizon within the next year or so, the wife's interest has shifted towards Delaware. One year while vacationing in Southern New Jersey, we did take the Cape May Ferry over to Lewes,De..seem to be a very nice area ! Most of my friends have already left NY and the ones that are still here are already talking about leaving ( I don't want to go into the taxes that we pay here, I just won't be able to retire here ! ) So I'm basically looking for information from any member that lives in Delaware... kinda looking towards a rural setting... doesn't have to be the Lewes area.... also would like to know about any active car clubs in the area as well. Thanks !!
  12. Thanks James.... My other '69 Impala is the 327, but it's the 235HP version... Steve
  13. My first restoration took me 14 years...'69 Impala, Black with a red interior ( I have a picture of it on file some where ) family life, work etc. takes priority. I thought I was done with car restoration until the "69 SS came along.... sold the Black Impala to buy the SS Impala - wife thought I was nuts...lol. This December with be 5 years for me and you can see in my thread here that I have a long way to go ! 😄
  14. The quarters look really nice ! Good advise about doing a section at a time.... how many years has it been since you started the restoration ? Steve
  15. Greg, Thanks for the information....I put Coker's on my '69 Impala ( P235 / 75 R15 ) back in 2005.... I can't remember how much they were, but they were not cheap ! I have about 2000 miles on them now, but due to the age, I was thinking about replacements...I have my other '69 Impala SS that will be needing tires at some point as well. Steve
  16. Other than Coker & Diamond Back Radials, what other brands would you guys suggest ? Thanks ! Steve
  17. Just an update from last year.... slow going ( health issues ) but making some progress. I ended up removing the fenders and coating the inside with POR-15.... the firewall, radiator support , headlight buckets and support brackets were all painted. Remounted the fenders & realigned them as well. Basically I want to finish the front end and go thru all the mechanical's and get the Impala running before moving onto paint. Since the Impala came to me in boxes, I just want to make sure that I have everything and nothing is damage. Slow process but I enjoy it ! Steve
  18. Beautiful work ! Considering the time you invested into the Buick, I personally would keep the Buick and sell the Camaro. I find the Buick to be a very unique vehicle, something you just don't see everyday compared to the Camaro. Good luck ! Steve
  19. I didn't do the inner wheel well work..... Jeff and his team at Penn-Dutch did the work..... he is a member here, so he might chime in.... Steve
  20. Thanks for the infor...Just went onto the Chevrolet web site.... can't believe the cost of a fully loaded Suburban now !! I think I paid around $35K for a new 1999 1/2 ton years ago.....
