Jay's garage show last night?

I gave the show a 'C' grade at best.

Tire burn outs are borring, FAKE arrest was WHAT Jay said he wouldn't do. To many topics covered, and few that informative, IMO.

The world LOVES the Mustang, and knows everything it needs to know, but the show featured such telling us what we already knew.

The show jumped around to often, producer didn't do the show any favor. Someone decided NOT to show much of his garage.

I'm going to agree, it was like watching the colts, has all the potential to be good, someone very knowledgeable about the cars and told us basically everything we already knew wih some gimmicks.........    Grade C only because Jay is great and loves his cars, hopefully it gets better because last night was average at best.

Was disappointed with the show.

 

Was hoping for more emphasis on Jay's classics and antiques. Oh well should have been no surprise that the producers are only going to show muscle cars, burn outs etc. given the other shows in this genre. More appeal to the masses I suppose.

I did not see this show as I don't have cable (would rather spend the time and money on my cars).

 

However, I do enjoy his YouTube bits on his cars and the garage.

Is his show intended for serious car fans like us,

or for a general audience who knows little beyond

liking Mustangs? Of course I'd rather see the former.

The short videos on his website are informative.

I like their diversity. They won Jay Leno an

Emmy Award in 2011 for "short format non-fiction" films.

I saw it on my way to the weather channel and as a courtesy of beating on him about that 3D scanner article I stopped the channel changer. I honestly don't remember if I watched it all. Hey, it's the ratings, not the content.

 

I hadn't heard that Tim Allen died. It sure looked like they exhumed him for that show.

Jay will continue with his YouTube show as well so you can still get your fix if you prefer the "classic" Jay Leno's Garage experience, which I do prefer to the new show thus far. I did rather enjoy seeing Donald Osborne who used to be co-host, along with keith Martin, on What's My Car Worth, before he was replaced by the new guy who isn't nearly as enjoyable to watch IMHO. Donald also co-presents our local Forest Grove Concours d'Elegance.

But you obviously have the internet, right? So watch it anytime you want on the channel's website. That's what I did.

 

And stop harping about it wasn't what you wanted. He's going to do LOTS of them, OK? Soon you will be rewarded. Don't expect Jay to please every car guy with every show. Can't be done.

Good to hear that some people enjoyed the show.

But constructive criticism is useful, too--

if only the producers would see this forum,

they should take these comments into account.

Every business wants feedback so they can

devise a show that people want to see.

Regrettably, many of the other car shows on TV

are sensationalistic, unrealistic, shallow, with

almost zero historical focus.

I have absolutely no interest in those, and hope the

Leno show will be something different and better.

It was interesting, and his enthusiasm for all things

automotive came through. I'd like to see

more substance in the coming episodes.

Reruns of the Andy Griffith Show are good entertainment, as well. And in today's ecologically strained world, it is better to watch an existing show instead of producing a carbon footprint from, the camera crew, their travel to the sites, fuel used, power for lighting, fuel during tale telling.

Producing that show probably resulted in a carbon footprint equal to 70,000 VW diesels, stoiciometrically challenged ones.

 

I'd rather watch Aunt Bee dent the quarter panel of her Ford convertible. At least the carbon pollution generated from Andy's show has probably been incinerated by nuclear surface testing in the late '60's, '70's, and '80's. The stuff from last week is lingering.

The show's ratings were exceptional (for CNBC) with more than 1.1 million in the target male age group (25-54 I believe).  I was hoping to see more pre-war cars from Jay's collection, but the description of the next two shows doesn't indicate that will be happening.

Sure a TON of folks watched, love to learn WHAT GRADE THEY GAVE IT. Next ratings may be less, I hope not though.

The problem is, all the 8 shows have already been taped, maybe....

There is a huge difference between viewing for the first time, and enjoying a what you saw.

I like Jay a bunch, had a nice talk with him in 2001 when in showed the Offy at PB, so don't anyone think I'm not rooting for him.

I found the production quality was focused for children. We had it on in the hotel while at Hershey, after 10 Minutes I went back to the bar to watch the Baseball games and have a night cap or two, The show just did not pull me in, but then again most of these other hobby TV shows don't either

I am hoping the show gets better and really takes off.  There are so many automobile shows that feature modifieds/hot rods, lets hope we can have a show about stock collector cars for the most part.  Jay has a terrific and diverse car collection.  Lets hope he can have some of the rare and special cars in his collection featured in shows in the future.

I tuned in hoping for Jay's considerable expertise to overcome the likelihood of typical cable TV car show dumbing down.  And I think we got a bit of both.  Like most of us here the musclecars were not really my thing and the Dodge SRT burnouts were a waste of my attention.  But your average cable TV idiot could not produce a ride with Ed Welburn in a Bill Mitchell showcar like the Pegasus segment--that must have been a lot of work for a 5-8 minute bit, thanks to Jay for pulling that off.  Plus they covered lots of ground for a single show, so I still look forward to his tastes producing more winners than losers for us, Todd C

It was okay. I like Tim Allen and watched the original two Tim Allen/Jay Leno tonight shows burnout contests years ago and this one was a let down with the Hellcats. They were not burnouts, they were doughnuts. Big difference. I also had to laugh when that 'expert' had the stude pegged as the highest value (by far)over that one of 8 or so CJ Mercury Cyclone. That was a joke. The Cyclone is way more valuable then a studebaker hawk.

My first thought, when I watched the 1955 Packard vid, was this topic. Too bad Leno didn't get hooked up with these guys. I have work and a couple meetings, but later today I think I'll watch a few.

 

Maybe I will contact them and see if they'd like to do what the West Coast guys are floundering with.

 

Studebaker Hawk????? I guess I didn't watch it all, I really couldn't remember until now.

Jay didn't DISAGREE on the Studie, I like the Mercury toooooooo, I owned a new 68 GT-E, and I see Mercury is YOUR driver. 

 

That WOULDN'T have anything to do with your opinion would it?  hehe.

 

The Studie has gain a ton of value over the past few years, for sure, hard to say which will gain the most value.

so here are a few tidbits of insight:

 

---I could sense his genuine enthusiasm for the show.

As you probably know, his interests are broad, and his

appreciation for all aspects of motor vehicles came across clearly.

The show covers "anything that rolls, explodes, and makes noise."

 

---The show isn't directed merely at antique car fans.

Even if all 60,000 AACA members watched, that wouldn't be

nearly enough to sell a national show.  He is especially complimented

when wives tell him they have appreciated the show.

 

---The segment on car pricing is at least partly for the wives!

That way, they can see that the cars' appreciation made

their husbands' expenditures worthwhile!

 

---The show was a success for CNBC, and for 2016, Mr. Leno

and the gang will be filming 12 new episodes.  They will be aired

beginning in April or May.

Did I like every show, No, do I appreciate the knowledge Jay has Yes, do I watch the show because I enjoy it YES, is it perfect, No, I could do with a lot less burnouts and more details, but am realistic to know he would help me and 40,000 other people would be bored to tears. It's a lot better than watching some reality show doe she get the ....rose or not. Who the hell cares, it's a decent show about cars and the guy doing it is one of us, he loves his cars.

None that I'm aware of.  Mr. Leno is affiliated with N.B.C.

 

I know what you mean.  I rarely watch television anymore,

but it used to be that a program was on every week, all year,

except for summer reruns.  With many programs' current intermittent

schedules, it's easy to lose track of them and forget them altogether.

Same here. I saw the first episode and was unimpressed. I was surprise jay signed off on it. He's much more of a class act than that show.  I have never seen or looked for any additional episodes.
