Just had a friend (from across the big pond) email me this. I think he knew more than he let on but was just trying to test ol' MrEarl.

Lamar,

What do you think about the attached image? 54, 55, 56? Hard to say, I'm not

sure.

56superpq5.jpg

Here was my reply...

Either this caught you without your thinking cap on or you're testing ol'

MrEarl. It can't be a 54 as there were no 54 4-door hardtops. It can't be a

55 because the curved door panel and door handle location says Super/Roadmaster and only the Century/Special came as 4 door Rivieras in 55. It is either a

56 Super or Roadmaster and given upholstery and numbers produced I'd bet

Super. Let me see the front vent window and I'll confirm. Shame on you for

testing ol' MrEarl. ; )

Can anyone else narrow it down from what is shown?

Thought this would be fun to run as a thread for awhile. Post a picture of a Buick or an area on the body of a Buick and see who can identify it first. Would be a good way to learn our Buicks. So, aybody else want to play Name That Buick

Hmmmm...this is a good challenge. I don't think it is a Roadmaster or Super, because it doesn't have the additional step up at the beltline, that the '55 and '56 big series cars have. So, my guess is '55 or '56 Special or Century. Can't narrow it down more than that--can anyone else?

Maybe we should start a new feature in the Buick Bugle: "Identify that Buick" from a photo of a very small part of it.

1961 Special, diff "ventiports" than 62

It's a '56 for sure, either Roadmonster or Super, with plastic seat covers from Sears or JC Whitney!

Look at Budd's '56 site HERE!

Isn't that dash from a '41 Special? C'mon y'all, the nerfball game's over, the Power Puff Girls have gone home.

Let's get serious...identify the year in this attachment.

Okay, okay, I'm wrong, but they didn't change the dashes from the holdover prewar cars till the intro of the new '50 Specials, right?

I could have sworn it had that "step" you're describing when I first looked at it and replied. But looking closer maybe not. If not then it could be a 55 or 56 Century/Special. What say ye Budd, with the young eyes.

I thought the little blip of sweepspear chrome was a dead giveaway to a 55 Century, but the 55 and 56 Century AND the 56 Special all had open wheel welts. It's down to the interior if anyone can make it out under that slipcover.

5563,

Technically, I'm no more than three years off,

unless you can document '43, '44' & '45 Buicks.

It's going to take the Spring thaw before the

above B body can be ID'ed, so can we move on?

Lest we forget that Buick made cars for a long time,

what's this? For the second time.

Not that it is of any meaning here but... do 1956 Super and Roadmaster 4 door Rivieras have the key hole in the push button of the handle.

Pete

The 31 had a 2 piece bumper, and the 32 had the bumper shown. The picture is too washed out to show the "B" on the hubcaps, but it almost looks like the rounded "B" from the 31, so it is really tough to tell. Ireally don't think it a victoria coupe as they had larger rear quarter windows.

Keith is correct on my tan front fender photo with the oval "mouseholes": 1961 Special; '62s are different.

This is fun!

Pete Phillips

Of course, it looks to be the same colour as the car you had in Rochester, so that helps to...the '62s are kind of a rounded rectangle with vertical ribs. I'd noticed the file name too, but too many had already responded for it to make an impact.

This may be fun, but not only does it hurt my brain, it is well beyond me. I think I'm too much of a generalist in terms of the years of cars I have to be enough of an expert to pick out a photo like this. Those dash shots all remind me of my '52, without getting into too much detail...the big chrome speaker grill in the middle is the most prominent feature.

Go Sverige!

It's a 1931 Model 86 Victoria Coupe...Don't ask me why it has '32 bumpers.

It was a Gulf Oil Company car, painted orange & blue many years ago.

Came out of Georgia, and was for sale a month ago. $7,000. Firm.

It's really complete, just needs everything!

Stuart,

You know we're pretty insulated from the iron available Down Under. Is it even GM? If so, than Vauxhall or Holden come to (my enfeebled) mind. The backlight completely throws me off, but the side rear window kinda (?) looks like '40-'48 Chevy. But the swoopy tail looks like Mopar...

Throw us a crumb!

OK, let's set some ground rules. Since the name of the game is NAME THAT BUICK. I would think it would need to be a Buick to be played here . Now do I need to stoke up my grill and get ready to cook some crow. In other words is that a Buick?

Quote:

A '56 I believe. Super/Roadmaster door is different so would have to be a Century/Special. Let us know when the correct answer is known.

Best I can do, Gene

Gene, I've got an appointment with the eye doctor tomorrow. I could have sworn there was a curve in the door about 8 inches right of the door handle. But then I receive confirmation that if it were a 56 Super/Roadmaster the key locks would be in the door handles vs in the dor skin as is VERY evident. So yea we are down to 56-56 Special/Century. My gut feeling is 56 Century. Hopefully someone will discover some other discernable feature that will tell.

Hope you like crow Mr Earl!!!

Australian 2 door sloper bodied Buick which ran 1936/37 and 38.

Popular with travelling salesmen, rear seat folded flat to give a large storage area.

Hopefully this link will work. http://www.buickcarclub.org.au/startset.htm and you will be a full bottle on Aussie slopers. You have to go to PHOTO GALLERY, then Uniquely Australian Buicks and then GM Holden ( Australia ) Buick All Enclosed Coupes.

Oh yea Stuart, I just put a little Tobasco on it and it tastes just like Emu. And I tried finding it on the site you linked to but got to the first picture and drooled all over the keyboard so gotta stop and clean up. Jeeez I gotta get down there someday!!!

Oh and by the way Tom, do you like white or dark meat?

I hope it's a '65 Wildcat, 'cause I'd lose my emu (dark meat, thank you) all over this keyboard if somebody put those wheels on an Electra 225!

Stuart, you gave it away too quickly, we're s'posed to agonize a wee bit longer over these things!

TG

There goes dinner...a '65 Electra!
