[color:\\"red\\"] Howie the Hustler is standing behind me and he wants to know if you mean the pint for the lobby of national HQ. instead of the libary? He said he will match the first ten $50.00 donations ! But there must be ten of them ! Since Howie the Hustler can't look in on the Rants and Raves, this will be handled throught D Binger. If he is going to put up the money, maybe this thread should be moved to the general forum so he could at least look in and see what is being done.

I had to decide if I wanted to get into this conversation; but once you pulled in the Library--well, here I am.

The Library and Research Center Board of Directors and especially the Fundraising Committee REALLY appreciates what this FORUM group did for the AACA Library. The AACA Library is now so absolutely beautiful. Please go to the Library website, click on NEWS and see the Library. We, the members of AACA have an obligation to the organizations within it. It is our hobby, our passion for many of us and as we all know the money to operate all of the organizations has to be generated from the membership.

Each person who contributes any amount, no matter how small or how generous is appreciated. We should give to maintain the hobby and the pleasure that we all receive from it. Some of the pleasure is from the chatting on this FORUM, some from the display of our vehilcles and some from just being a member of the AACA.

John and I will give $50.00 toward the paint for Headquarters and KNOW it will be matched. The check will be in the mail today.

Have not ventured into the deep for awhile and was surprised at this thread. Yes, we have started a badly needed renovation of our building. We have an office in which four of our ladies reside which is in the process of new paint, carpet (linoleum on now) and new furniture. This was badly needed and should make our staff more efficient and give them an appropriate workplace.

We also are painting our lobby which has not been painted in decades I think. We are moving the display cases and changing the environment to highlight the National Awards. I think everyone will really enjoy the new look. I will post pictures when the work is complete.

I can tell all of you that any donations we receive will be greatly appreciated and put to good use as we have established a special fund to keep up with our clubs future needs. Please note that other than in our magazine carrier sheet we are not actively seeking donations. Your philantrophy is GREATLY appreciated but we want to make sure there is no pressure you feel by your national organization.

All forum members. This thread was begun in the "basement". As many people are now locked out of there, I have moved this here. Seems the Executive Director has made a mess of our walls and they need a new paintjob.

Carry on!

We know he isn't painted over or stuck in a corner by carpenters as he moves too fast for either of those things to have happened. laugh.gif

Hoover, no fair picking one me! As far as being quiet, well, we have been a wee bit busy over here. The main office was spruced up last week. We painted the entire room and installed carpet over the linoleum. This was not a luxury as the last "remodel" was apparently about 17 years ago. All new furniture was installed and the office should be much more efficient. We will get up some artwork and plants and be in business!

The lobby area has been repainted and the trophy cabinets have been moved to different positions for betters display. We will be donating the furniture from the lobby to the museum and purchasing a couple of new chairs or couches.

You are right Mr. Hoover, I still managed to get in the way of the painters!

Mr. HtH, you got me. Ok, I'm in too, I guess that is only right since I am the cause of this. Patty will have my check Monday morning. Thanks and welcome to the forum, although you are a "newbie" I expect you have years of experience behind you!

Olds usually called it "Heather". Lots of 58s were that color, and 61-62 had a dropjaw metallic lavender called "Heather Mist". Ninety Eights and Starfires wear it well along with "Sunset Mist" (a metallic pink), but it ain't for everybody! Last offered in 1965 as "Laurel Mist".

Hey if a musclebound 65 GTO can wear "Iris Mist" (same as Olds Laurel) and kick arse at the same time...

Maybe y'all should paint the walls "Oldsmobile Purple"- the purplish red they used in the Rocket emblems.

That only puts $1000 toward a bill that is much higher I'm sure. How about some of these new guys that post all day, join the crowd, join the club, make a $50 donation to the library while you're at it. The new computorised library search really works great. And that is also a matching fund dollar for dollar donation. So your $50 turns into a $100.

Sorry to confuse you Dan. My understanding is Howie the Hustler is matching 10 donations of $50 for the paint job. BUT, the library also needs help. They have someone matching donations to the online research website. So if a donation is made of $50 to the paint job and $50 to the library research website it turns into $200. All I'm saying is I'm giving Steve a $50 for the paint job, but I'm not giving Steve a Kiss!

Well, on behalf of a member of the working class who doesn't have a crewcab dualie, enclosed trailer or motorcoach, postwar muscle car that can't get driven for fear of getting it dirty, and would look out of place at any given concourse de elegance, I do have $50.00 from the sale of some Hot Rod parts that I'll be sending along to the HH 50-50 fund. grin.gif Merry Christmas!

I'm back. As Fundraising chairperson for the Library; you know I am always aware when money is circulating.

Yes, Howie the Hustler is challenging for help to defray the cost of the PAINT for the HEADQUARTERS. I have been told that AACA HEADQUARTERS looks great with its renovations.

I would like to explain the Library Matching Fund Grant that was referred to in this thread. This is strictly FOR the AACA LIBRARY and RESEARCH CENTER. Whatever anyone gives--any amount--- smile.gif -- and it is designated for this Matching Grant Fund; it is matched . This is a fantastic grant. It is in effect for five years and is for a total of $100,000. We have successfully completed 2005. We are now working on this year to raise $20,000 for the grant to match.

Do click on the Library website of the AACA and go to NEWS. There is a good explanation about it there. The grant and all donated monies are for placing the LIbrary card catalog on line.

Come on out there in Forum land. 'Tis the season to be generous. The count stands at 8 and Howie the Hustler ain't gonna cough up his $500 until there are 10 - $50 donations in hand at AACA HQ. Real money, no promisory notes left unpaid as in some past campaigns.

For the want of 2 more donors are you going to let the Hustler off the hook to drink up his $500 in eggnog at this festive season.

Happy Hankwansmas everyone. smirk.gifgrin.gif

THOUGHTS FOR THE SEASON

1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. Like fine single-malt scotch, it's rare. In fact, it's even rarer than single-malt scotch. You can't find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnog-aholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have

one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple. Pumpkin. Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or, if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention.

Reread tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner.

Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming,

"WOO - HOO what a ride!"

OK, I don't know if this will be number 9 or 10 but it doesn't matter. This may be the USPS's busiest day but I still have time to get the $50 check in the mail. Buddy

I was just ready to try to move this post back to the top when someone else did it with another donation. This is great fun to know that our little bit helps to defray some of the costs of making everything fresh and new again. The ladies at headquarters must be enjoying the newness. Hopefully Howie the Hustler will have to cough up his cash before the day is out. Wouldn't want him to drown in eggnog.

OK Ron, it looks like you are #10. cool.gif From the names of those who have promised $50 so far, I don't think that there is any chance that someone will not come through. smile.gif

Now, is it possible that there are some out there willing to donate beyond the 10 needed for the $500 match. confused.gif It would be nice if the generosity would continue, and after all, now that AACA is a 501c3, all donations are tax deductable.

If someone else is willing to offer a $500 match, Howie the Hustler will be the first to donate $50 toward the second challenge.

Wow, HtH, I need you as a full time fund raiser! A few checks came in the mail today and we had a visit from someone who can't spell chocolatetown and with cash no less! I am positive that the membership will feel it is money well spent as the improvements were not frivolous nor inexpensive. I greatly appreciate our board approving this expenditure though, as I think our national headquarters must look professional. I know our staff is thrilled with the changes and they do deserve a great working environment. Thanks again everyone, it is sincerely appreciated.
