alsancle
He did a nice job on the restoration. As far as concept cars go, it’s very mild, so I wonder what it will actually bring? A Million dollars feels high to me, but I guess we’ll see.
63RedBrier
You have to wonder how such a unique vehicle fell into such a decrepit condition. Luckily, it survived and the restorer saw the project through to completion...

This one was in better shape than many. https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/joe-bortz
rocketraider
I followed that restoration in Old Cars Weekly. Great series of articles. I think what's happened here is that, like many of us, the car's done, there's nothing left to do with it and he's looking for the next restoration challenge. The paint is interesting. He found that it was a regular 1956 Ford color offering "Persimmon" and the show car glitz and glamour was achieved with a pearl topcoat.
58L-Y8
Glad another dream/show car from that extravagant period of design survives and has been restored. Now, they just need to recreate that truck and display trailer to go with it.
K8096
We have to take points off on the truck. It has whitewalls.
TAKerry
I too have been following this build in Old Cars. That fellow did a remarkable job with the restoration of a very interesting car with some unique features. He has a website dedicated to it as well which has a lot of great photos of the process. He has developed a niche of restoring one off's. I would not be surprised at all to see it hit a million. I was surprised there was never any mention of it on this forum! Ed Luddy
I admire the man's talent, patience and tenacity! It's a different looking dream car.
9F94M567042
It's also been documented in the Quick Silver magazine published by the IMOA. That's the International Mercury Owners Association in case you're wondering.
58L-Y8
The immediate affect can be seen on the "Dream Car Design" 1957 Mercurys, none more so than the Turnpike Cruisers.
avgwarhawk
Neat car. Glad he worked on restoring the vehicle.
JamesR
I believe this is the same gentlemen who restored the beautiful Thunderbird Italien, another early sixties concept/show car that I saw for sale on eBay a while back (post restoration.) I don't know if that car sold at that time. If it did, it would be interesting to see what it went for.
rocketraider
I think AMT's 1963 or 64 Thunderbird annual 3-in-1 kit included an Italien clear plastic roof for the custom option.

TAKerry
I believe you are correct on the Italien. I am pretty sure he sold that car at auction as well. He also had an amphicar that when it sold was for a record high for that particular car.
8E45E
I saw that Thunderbird at the Imperial Palace Museum in 2010. Craig
