jackofalltrades70
Well, not ready for paint this weekend. Still prepping the doors and odds and ends on the car body. Thanks to reading 95Cardninal post on a screw that was broken in the rear gate latch, I found one of mine that was also broken and was able to remove it. This prompted me to revise the car and removed 5 other fasteners that had broken off during removal. I am really close to finishing. Have a few details to finish up on the last door and then one more once over on all of the surfaces. Then, have to find and hang the plastic on the walls. Glad I took the time and slowed down a bit. jackofalltrades70
Was warm enough and the sun was shining this afternoon, so I finally rolled the car our of the garage and wet sanded the roof to 1500 and buffed with a cutting/finish compound I wanted to try. Also worked on a piece of stainless to see how far out of practice I am. Like riding a bike…… 6

jackofalltrades70
First step is to hammer, punch, beat, coerce all of the dents out you can then, sand with 320 grit to the contour of the part. Keep hammering low spots out and sand until smooth sand to 600 grit, then 1500 then I use a sisal wheel on my pedestal grinder and follow with a cotton cloth buff
jackofalltrades70
Had a great day! Found some critical parts to the wagon that I had forgotten about or never unboxed. thanks again to Frank Lyle for offering the tailgate cross he had for sale. literally had hidden it in Santas sleigh so it wouldn’t get damaged
Fr. Buick
Can you tell us about the dolly tools underneath, are they part of your "tool box" for this? I've never seen something like that for working stainless. Thanks!
jackofalltrades70
Many of Buick and I suppose GM stainless trim is contoured on the sides. I will find the pin/ball that is the correct contour that I need, lock it in a vice and dolly/hammer from the back side. jackofalltrades70
Have several pieces of trim that were smashed pretty good. Worked on them and some other pieces today. Sanded and painted the moulding clips for this piece and installed it on the car. Cleaned up the side panels and am mostly ready to take them to be clear anodized. only picture from today

roadmaster_56
Hey Matt: Could you show the details of how you plan to mount the roof rails? ie. nuts, retainer clips, gaskets, etc. I'd like to see how you are going to waterproof the mounting holes. I have a '57 and will eventually remove/reinstall my rails to remove rust and prevent leaks. Thanks. BTW, couldn't locate that "pin ball" dolly set at Harbor Freight.....or anything like it on the web.

As a tip from 98Cardinal, buy some 3M rubber rope seal and tear off pieces, roll the length in your hands to make the diameter smaller and wrap it around the studs before attaching it to the roof. Will post pictures when I get to that stage. Matt
