CChinn
This weekend I went back to the PNW to participate in a Navy retirement ceremony at my former command at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, WA. This morning I did get a chance to take a nice leisurely drive in the 2 lane farmland roads in the Skagit Valley, although it was in a modern vehicle. Unfortunately, my ‘38 Cadillac convertible just could not fit in the airline overhead bin😀 on the flight west from NC. It was perfect weather for a morning drive: sunny, mid 70s temp and no humidity. I also visited the coastal town I lived in for 2 years, Anacortes, WA. Here are some photos of the old car related murals the town authorized during its centennial celebration in the mid ‘90s. I hope you enjoy them Edited August 17 by CChinn (see edit history)

Paul Dobbin
Last Saturday I drove to Clayton, GA for a Main St. Cruise-In Block Party. 133 cars & trucks came to fill 2 blocks of the Main Street. 3 cars from our Franklin NC group made the ride, a 24 Cadillac, our 35 Buick and a 39 Ford. A good time was had by all.
Brass is Best
It was the perfect evening for a drive in a flathead Ford. The air was cool and felt like the end of summer. It is nature's way of saying enjoy the next few weeks.
JamesR
Man, I love that car. I especially like the earlier photo of the coupe in front of the house that looks to be from the same era. If there's anything cooler than that, I don't know what it is. Thanks for the great photos!

Brass is Best
Today we gave our 1952 Oldsmobile 98 sedan a drive. Less than 32,000 documented miles on this Olds. This car is a pleasure in every way.
TAKerry
At the risk of offending, I am not a huge fan of cars from the late 40's through about 1960. None the less even a 4 door model. BUT the way you present and photograph, this car is stunning! 3

Paul Dobbin
An old picture from the 1999 Glidden Tour in the Shenandoah Valley near Staunton VA. This waterfall was in the back of the campground we stayed during the tour. The 1934 Ford Phaeton was my favorite car I've ever owned. A great fair weather car, wish I still had it. We found the Glidden Tours always found good scenery and America at it's finest, while the cars were great too.

Google the Classic Car Depot in Clarksvile GA for information on what's happening there too. PM me and Ill give you the email and # for the guy who runs the Clayton Block Party and you can get on his mailing list. Paul

Paul Dobbin
Saturday morning (08/24/24), Mrs. D and I decided to take our 1934 Ford V8 for a ride in the country. Not being out of the barn for over 2 months, it started right up and we headed for Highlands, NC for a car guy gathering called "Butts On The Bench". Highlands is about 2000 feet above our home at 4118 Ft., called a "Town with Altitude". To get there we took Highlands Rd., which became the Cullasage Gorge Rd that hugged the gorge created by the Cullasaga River. With a shear rock cliff to our left and a 200 foot drop to the river on our right, we stayed in our lane and enjoyed a challenging drive. We paused a the Sliding Rock Falls, the Bridal Veil falls and the Dry Falls in the 9 mile drive similar to the Tail of the Dragon (With 129 curves in it's 11 miles) I was to busy to count the curves, we've driven the Tail of the Dragon too, which is less than 30 miles away. Following the "Butts on the Bench stop", we visited a neat Thrift Store called Mountain Findings and didn't find anything we needed Then we drove though the Bascom Art Museum's covered bridge and began our decent into Georgia that had switchbacks @ 10% grade for about 3 miles. (A real test for mechanical brakes & Second gear) Once in the valley we went to the Valley Cafe' for a nice lunch, then home on some valley bottom roads along the Little Tennessee River, visiting some old car friends along the way. A nice morning drive, and we only went 67 miles. V8's Rule!
