This 1965 Riviera just sold for $302,500 @ the Mecum Auction on Saturday Jan 13. I was there - it was a very nice car.

This 65 Riviera Custom sold for $77,000 - I didn't think it was that great - some flaws - IMO

https://www.mecum.com/lots/1107439/1965-buick-riviera-custom/?aa_id=524115-0

This one sold for $38,000 - I did not see this one

https://www.mecum.com/lots/1102788/1965-buick-riviera-gs/?aa_id=511456-0

There were also 4 1963 Rivieras which sold for between $8,000 and $51,700

Cheers all!

Was the 65 Midnight Blue the same color as the 64 Diplomat Blue?

I'm not sure. It sure was close; similar to Chevy's Daytona Blue they used on the C2 Corvette, and I think Pontiac had a similar color I have seen on GTO's. Either way, it's beautiful; my Dad's '65 he bought new was Midnight Blue with a black standard interior. I have seen a few Midnight Blue ones, but seems like I've seen very few with the interior in black; most seem to have what I call an Astro Blue interior.

My 64 was Diplomat Blue with a white custom interior.  Chevy called theirs Daytona Blue.  Pontiac and Olds also had the same color with different names.  Not sure about Cadillac though.  Chevy eventually changed the name to Deepwater Blue but it was the same color.

If you put a 1964 Diplomat Blue Riviera along side a 1965 Midnight Blue Riviera, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

No, different colors. To my eye the `65 Midnight blue has a purple hue in some circumstances which I dont care for. Seems to me `64 Diplomat blue is a more true deep blue.

I don’t know why I didn’t look this up in the first place instead of asking but a paint reference site list different codes for the 64 and 65 colors.  One thing I did notice, according to a couple of different references, was that GM had two dark blue colors - Midnight Blue and Midnight Aqua.

Midnight Aqua is not a common color on a 65 Riviera but I really like it.

Listed for sale on the Facebook “Almighty Buick Nailhead” forum is a 3.07 posi 3rd member for a first generation Buick (Rviera.)  That’s all I can tell you about it.  No way to link it; no contact info.

1967 Buick Riviera GS

condition: good
cylinders: 8 cylinders
drive: rwd
fuel: gas
odometer: 115000
paint color: grey
size: full-size
title status: clean
transmission: automatic
type: coupe

Brothers car. Mostly original, original paint, sheet metal, interior etc. Very little rust, all surface, no sheet metal replacement is needed. Original bench seat car, No A/C. Original Buick 430, 4 barrel. Has dual angle torque converter Turbo 400, the last year for this performance feature, also has 3:23 posi traction rear axle, 9 3/8 ring gear. Chrome bumpers are in excellent condition, no rust or pitting.
He replaced cracked exhaust manifolds (not available, 1 year only) with top quality T/A performance shorty headers, ceramic coated. He did not finish hooking everything back up. Prior to replacing the manifolds it ran and drove fine (I road with him).
He replaced rear lower arms, and springs, new locator bar bushings, new body mounts, steering box and pump, new starter and flywheel, brake lines. New Bilstien shocks all around. Aftermarket sway bars, new tires. The new dual exhaust system is in the box, all original parts including "Star Wars" air cleaner are included. To drive, it needs the transmission cooler lines connected, the heater hoses, and the exhaust hooked up.
My brother passed away in 2020 and it is stored in his heated, and air conditioned garage. It is on his lift where he left it.

Please; if you are reading this ad the car is still available!

Pretty nice, low option car. Kinda question some stuff, like Custom interior package with no rocker moldings and the painted outside mirror is a bit of a turn off. Also a PCV on that right valve cover would keep the stains off those nice covers. The trunk needs the spare and jack, and finishing out with material, and the cardboard to really look nice. Not a ton of money to get that stuff, but it DOES add up over time.

Agree. See, not a '65 Riviera GS and few options but very appealing just the same. I only ask that this one had AC and I'd be happy with it.

Unbelievable the disparity in pricing between a 1965 Riviera and 1965 Riviera GS.

Notice the turn signal and tilt levers down at the 8:00 O'Clock position?

All these pretty images of beautiful Rivieras. So, I'll break the pattern with a shot of a pristine rear armrest sitting in a yard at Desert Valley Auto.

Can you spot it? LOL

Looks like a '65 Riv with the blue custom cloth interior...that's the one I'm looking for for my '65! But I was hoping for a little better original condition ...

There`s no doubt this is an original `65 Gran Sport and I am very impressed by what`s RIGHT on this car....but I am INCREDIBLY impressed with what is wrong! At this point in time, after obsessing over these cars for decades, I get excited to find factory mistakes....and this one is a fantastic example that I`m dedicating a file to!

Agree. However, I want it MINE!

I have those wire hubcaps sitting on a basement shelf, preferring Buick road wheels. I now have a different opinion of them seeing them on this superb 1965 Riviera GS!

I’m no expert but the one thing that stands out to me is probably not a factory mistake.  The Gran Sport option included either the unique Gran Sport wheel covers or the optional rally wheels, not the wire wheel covers.

Here’s a picture of a Gran Sport with the unique Gran Sport wheel cover.

IMG_1742.jpeg.c33283956b9aa3b0ea0e06ac38b5e26d.jpegThis car belongs to Steve and Emily Kouris.

The unique wheel covers are actually a standard 1965 Riviera wheel cover with the spinner/knock off from a 63/64 cast wheel cover and 64 center emblem. They look especially nice when turning and the sun is reflecting off them.

Ed makes a good point. The GS specific caps were standard with the option. Obviously most opted for road wheels but maybe you could option the wire caps too.
This white one at the Mcacn show had them too.
