dalef62
I have registered the FOR for the Hershey show so I need to finish it up! To do that I needed to get the engine in the convertible so I can get it out of the way. It is now in the engine compartment. Now to swap spaces so the FOR is out front.

dalef62
Today I put a few more goodies under the hood so that I can start the engine. Most are only temporary so condition is not important at this time, I just want to get it running.
dalef62
Today I was able to put a few finishing touches on the engine and fired it up. Sounds pretty good. Now to move it out of the way and bring out the FOR to get it ready for Hershey.
dalef62
I have been working on a bunch of little projects, the FOR, a piece of property I bought, and plaques for our club's car cruise this coming Saturday. On the FOR front, I have been finishing up the wiring at the rear taillights, making the cover for what will be the rats nest of wires back there, and making the emergency brake plate that goes on the bottom of the emergency brake handle. The piece of property is a vacant lot one street back from where I live and my plans are to put up a metal garage someday. It had a house on it till early this year when it burnt. Everything is moving along nicely. Edited August 4, 2020 by dalef62 (see edit history)
dalef62
Today I got one more part ready for the FOR. It is the flywheel cover, stripped, blasted and painted.
dalef62
More little things... Today I welded up the wire cover on the license plate bracket. But to do that I had to get my gas bottle filled for the mig welder. The place I was using was ripping me off for gas, over twice the going rate so I found a new place. I called and got a price to fill the bottle, which was what I was paying years ago for gas and he said make sure the bottle is up to date. Well it wasn't, 3-88, so I asked if they recertify them. No, but they can send it out, and it takes 6-8 weeks. The next question was how much was a new one, $155 filled and ready to go. So I now have a brand new bottle of argon - co2 for the mig and the cover is now ready for primer and paint.
dalef62
The last few days have been spent getting the fuel tank ready to be sealed. Hopefully in the next day or so I can put the sealant in and then let it dry for a few days before I install it. Also been working on a customer's 1948 Chrysler engine. Getting ready to put the head on it soon. Edited August 28, 2020 by dalef62 (see edit history)
dalef62
Yesterday I put the sealer in the fuel tank, Por15. It seems to have done a good job only time will tell. Today I gave it a coat of gloss black paint. Once it is dry and I have time I can put the tank in and connect up the fuel line and go for a ride. That is if I ever get the plate from Penndot. Getting close to being done and ready for Hershey 😊.
dalef62
More little things done on the FOR today. I made a ground wire for the fuel sending unit and attached it to the frame. Then I made the emergency brake rods that go from the handle to the cables on both sides and installed them. Then with more time I installed the fuel tank. Now in the next few days I can plumb the fuel line and put some gas in it and see it it runs on it's own tank. The list is getting shorter... and Hershey is getting closer!
dalef62
Attended the Shannock Valley Region AACA car show today with the 1966 Mustang. Was a beautiful day and over 120 cars and great food!!! A special surprise for me was the Mustang was picked as the Fireman's Choice. I think it was our dog or the food tray that they liked.

dalef62
I got a lot of the little things done on the FOR today. Finished installing the fuel tank and line to the fuel pump. Finished the tail light wiring and installed the bulbs in the parking/turn signal lights. Installed the cotter pins in the emergency brake rods. Tightened the steering box nut. Lots of little things. Lots to do yet... And Hershey is coming fast...

dalef62
More items checked off the list of things that needed finished. The turn signal light in the dash was cleaned and installed, emergency brake springs and cables were connected to the rear brake drums, one shock is now installed with new rubber bushings,(waiting on the rest of the rubber bushings to come in), and installed the two rubber bumpers for the hood. Still waiting for the state to send me my antique plate. The application was sent in on July 18 and on Saturday it was returned to me because we didn't put the unlaiden weight and gross weight on the application. Why they need that when you can't haul anything with an antique???? And why they didn't call me to ask these simple questions is beyond me. I filled out those blanks and sent it back in. Maybe I will have a plate before Hershey???
Brill_C-37M_Bus
Beautiful work! And I sympathize with the PA antique paperwork issues. There was a straight up clerk handwriting mistake on my antique registration, which took a while to fix. But considering the vehicle I registered as an antique had been a commercially inspected bus from 1951-2016, it’s certainly strange they would ask you for specifics on gross or unladen weight, when nobody asked me. Good luck, I hope the plate comes in time. Now your photos gave me the motivation to go check some more wiring on mine. Thanks for sharing! -Steven
dalef62
More things done today. I painted and cleared the wire cover for the license plate. Also put the hoses on the wiper motors to the intake. Slowly getting done.
dalef62
Work continues on the FOR. Today the rubber hose was installed on the wire connectors for the turn signals, the flasher unit (was found) and installed, the belt was installed, the battery was stripped of decals and installed. The battery was hooked up and the front parking lights work and when the turn signal switch is activated the opposite front light gets brighter. Oops 😬. I guess I will have to flip the switch over... Now I hear that Hershey show may be cancelled... I sure hope not, but we will accept whatever comes down.
dalef62
Spent part of the day working on the FOR, cleaning and shinning for the upcoming meet in Gettysburg. It is beginning to look ready to go. The other part of the day I moved a few cars around in the back room, getting ready for winter ❄️. While moving cars around I found a few parts that I need for the FOR, one being a nice steering wheel. I am planning on getting my first car (1951 Crosley Super Wagon) out and cleaned up and finished over the winter. The brakes are hanging up on it so pushing it was a pain. dalef62
Today I worked on the 51 wagon, removed the offending drum and cleaned the wheel cylinder and drum and now it turns free. 3 more to go but first it was time to clean it up some.
retirednow
Dale, did you ever see the Crosleys that are on display at the Cincinnati airport (which is actually in Kentucky)? dalef62
Today was a good day for the Farm O Road. I started out by changing one of the emergency brake rods as the one I made was a little short. Then it was on to painting the freshly blasted radiator cap. Then I started working on a steering wheel, using JB Weld to fill some of the small cracks that had developed over the years. It is now ready for a coat of gloss black. Then when I went to lunch my wife brought the license plate that arrived in the mail from the state today. Now I can drive it!! dalef62
Oh the fun of old cars!?!!? I wanted to get the 1958 Lincoln out and clean it up for our clubs Dam(n) Tour. It had been in storage for a year and hasn't been touched. The battery was down a little so I jump started it and if fired right up. Pulled it out and ran good till I was about two miles from my garage and after climbing a pretty good grade. It started bucking and kicking and then it died. Good thing there was a nice area to pull over on the back road. Got out and lifted the hood to find the radiator had sprung a leak and it was spraying antifreeze right on the distributor. I tried to dry everything off and restart it but it wasn't having any of that. Killed the battery and had to get my wife to come and get it jump started with her car. Long story short, it finally started and dried the distributor enough to make it to the garage. Now along with cleaning the car I will have to get the radiator repaired. I guess that's how things go in 2020!!! 3

dalef62
Lincoln radiator repaired and back in. Also gave it a bath today, getting it ready for our clubs tour on Sunday. dalef62
Today I took the Lincoln for a test drive to make sure everything is in good shape. Got gas and stopped at the auto parts to get masking tape. All went well and it was a beautiful day to ride with the top down. Also spent some time on the FOR steering wheel. It is now a nice shiny black!

dalef62
On Sunday the Kiski Valley Region AACA had it's fall dam tour. We had 9 cars and 16 members on the dam tour visiting 2 dams, one watershed and a truck collection. The weather for the dam tour was great as was the scenery. It is a shame we didn't have more older cars on the dam tour.

dalef62
Final stretch before Gettysburg Meet. Touching up minor blemishes, making adjustments and installing the floor mat. Was really nice to have the old tub area to use to mark and cut some of the holes for the new mat. Now to trim the toe board area of the mat and install the accelerator pedal.
