Larry Schramm replied to leomara's topic in Technical
Personal preference. I lightly stained the wheels on my car and then used polyurethane varnish. -

What did you do to your pre war Buick today?
Larry Schramm replied to Buick35's topic in Buick - Pre War
I just got a call from Lucas Tires and they said that they just received a shipment of tires for my '13 Buick. Hopefully they are on the way. I did order 5, just in case so I would have a matching spare. -
For an old car guy, make sure that you come to Greenfield Village the first weekend after Labor Day for the Old Car Festival. They usually have between 500-700 vehicles older than 1932, and the best part is they let the owners drive their cars in the village. I was there today with one of my grandsons for the day out with Thomas The Engine. If you come, look me up and I will give you a ride in the village if you do not have a car. I will have the only 1915 Buick Truck. Old car festival information. https://www.thehenryford.org/current-events/calendar/old-car-festival/ My wife and I did that route a couple of years ago. It was a very enjoyable experience as we(I) have done a lot of mountainous driving. The thing that amazed me was the roads twists & turns & grades were traversed by people in the cars at the time driving vehicles with low horsepower cars and mechanical brakes, etc.... Cool experience.

Are you saying the the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing? Some of the most unwelcome joke words are I am from the DMV and I am here to help you. I could tell you another story where the clerk got two out of three transactions wrong and I needed to go back and get them redone. Took the title in and got new plates. -

We have the VW Camper that we have had for maybe 35+ years and it has been continuously licensed here in Michigan for 30 years. A couple of years ago I got a letter from the DMV that they would not renew the license for the van unless I brought the title in for them to inspect????? They issued the title when we moved back to Michigan when we got all of the car titles changed over to Michigan. It has been licensed every year that we have lived in Michigan. How does that work?? -

The Robertson screws were not adopted here in the US because Henry Ford did not want to pay the royalties as Robertson was Canadian, plus it would add a few more cents to the price of the car. This is what I have been told by a number of persons. As for cross slotted or Phillips screws there is a reason that they were adopted in the US car business. When the screw get tight, the screw driver will "cam out" so it will not generally speaking over tighten and/ or strip out. This is not the case with the Robertson screws. The Robertson screws are still used quite extensively by the RV industry in travel trailers, etc.. The modern equivalent to Robertson screws are Torx screws or otherwise called multi lobed screws. -
Does driving an old car make you a better driver?

What are front brakes? Everything that I have has rear only brakes. Remember that the size of the contact patch of the tire to the pavement is only about 6 square inches. Maybe 9 square inches....times 2. -

I do not know what features you are talking about from the 60's. There is the HCCA/AACA tour on Th & Fri before the weekend of the show limited to 1915 and older vehicles only. The Old Car Festival vehicles are limited to 1932 and older only. The village allows owners to drive their vehicles in the village during the tour. The last few years there has been a reception for exhibitors on Friday night. I do not know what / if there will be this year. Time will tell. If anyone wants to go on the tour, contact me and I will give you more info.

Several listed for varying prices, but only one sold.

I wish I could get new tires for my '13 Buick. No one has any. I have some on order with Coker. If I can not get some tires, I will be getting to a point where I will not be able to drive the car. -

I finished putting the valvetrain in my '08 Model F Buick today. One more step closer to getting it running. Now waiting to get the water pump back so I can install it. It is out on loan so a friend can get one made for his car. -
I would say a repainted school bus.

If you want to add in a current vehicle line, what about the Cadillac Black Wing? From what I have heard, they are selling for as much as $50K over sticker.
