  1. I checked and I do not have any wiring diagrams for the Nash or Packard. My book only goes up to about 1920.
  2. 1968 Opel Kadet station wagon. I had one of those when I was in college. Good car.
  3. Let me know where the car is. I think it would be interesting to talk to the owner. Also, what type of comments would you like from us brass guys? We could tell you all kinds of stories on how to start a brass & nickel era car.
  4. How about this sign? Is there anyone here that knows of someone that might like this for their garage?
  5. The background drive of engine swapping could be traced to the requirements to meet Federal Emission standards. By the mid '70's every division had a 350 cubic inch engine which each had to go through their own emission certification. This was a pure cost decision to end a lot of the different engines and put all engine development under one umbrella. The creation of GM Powertrain Division of GM. There was some other duplication in engines but the 350 is a good poster child for government requirements to change product selection by the customer. "I'm from the government and I am here to help you"
  6. I would say that one of the best things that has contributed to the extended maintenance is going from leaded gasoline to unleaded. With leaded fuel the typical "tune up" was about every 12,000 miles which required new spark plugs or having the ones in the car cleaned. Now spark plugs will go 100,000 miles or more between change intervals. Also the lead contaminated the oil and every thing else. Another reason for the 3,000 mile oil changes at the time.
  7. Remember, if you want to turn $50,000 into $15,000 restore a vehicle.
  8. I was digging through one of my tool boxes and found this Solex carb kit for a German era Opel. What you see is what you will get. From about 1968-1974. You can have it for the cost of shipping priority postage ($10.00) US. PM me.

  10. Standard joke is: How do you turn $50,000 into $15,000? Easy, restore a car. There are exceptions though.
  11. No problem. Sometime we all get so caught up in our acronyms that we forget that many others might not be on the same wave length. When I worked for General Motors the company actually had a book with all of the different acronyms used within the company. There were the same acronyms in finance and engineering as an example that were very different things.

  13. I use Lubriplate SPO-299 which from what I have determined is the modern equivalent to 600W. https://www.lubriplate.com/Products/Fluid/SPO-Series/SPO-299/SPO-299/
  14. Seal Cove is a great small museum and Barbara and her husband are great people.
  15. I have done exactly as Mark describes and it has worked well. No issues.
  16. Here are some updated pictures from today. You can see that the valve train is in, exhaust system, Intake maniford, carb, new chain except master link, etc... It is getting there.
  17. Actually that is my son who came to the shop to help me with the car assembly. We were just taking a break. Currently his interest is in the 1915 Buick truck.
  18. This is a picture from last fall. I have a lot more attached to the chassis, but the problem is if I do not have the part, I have to have it made which takes time. I hope to have the chassis running this summer. Kind of close, but no cigar yet. I will try to post a more current picture later.
  19. I remember seeing pictures of the assembly line at the Norwood Ohio plant with cars just sitting there. All 1,100 of the cars on sitting on the line at the time of the strike were scrapped because the strike was settled after the new model year and did not meet the newer emission standards. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwood_Assembly https://www.stevesnovasite.com/threads/crushed-1972-models.681668/
  20. I'll be there with the Buick truck and my oldest grandson on Friday
  21. I just replaced the power steering lines on my wife's Envoy. Filled it up with PS fluid. Started the car and turned the steering wheel lock to lock a couple of times. Let the car sit so the bubbles/air would work out of fluid at the pump. Topped of the PS pump maybe an hour later with a short drive to test it out. Works fine with no more noise.
