  1. I just ordered a new Silverado 3/4 ton. The first new vehicle that I have ever owned and I have owned a lot. Should be in sometime this month.
  2. Your description is IMO the smart way to go. That way you can learn about your car and keep improving it and enjoying the ride. As for too many cars complete restorations start by disassembling the vehicle and it never gets put back together. They are then sold for pennies on the dollar or as scrap, or parted out. Here is one that I bought and am currently in the process of putting back together because it is a 1908 2 cylinder Buick.
  3. Do you have a factory service manual? Usually those diagrams are in the manual.
  4. When a business provides a product that the customer wants, the customers will come. When the business loses the customer focus, customers will drift away. Read these two links to try to understand what I am saying. https://www.markinblog.com/customer-loyalty-retention-statistics/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw8amWBhCYARIsADqZJoWTYHabkvNGesgtEfDh-wxpO4sM8uF-uau7H1g_0822t-K8Kk7qbhgaAqn6EALw_wcB https://www.europeanbusinessreview.com/is-acquiring-new-customers-more-expensive-than-keeping-them/
  5. Remember that parallel is ground to ground, and positive to positive like shown in the picture. That way your car will remain a 6 volt system. With good clean connections and proper cables 6 volt cars operate fine. Series is negative on one battery, positive on that battery to negative on the next battery, and positive to the car. = 12 volts.
  6. I have these on my car trailer and they work fine. They fold up under the trailer when not in use. You just need to be sure that they lock in the up position or you will bend/break the jack off. Plus there is no storing other jacks or blocks of wood anywhere. https://www.amazon.com/Trailer-Stabilizer-Telescoping-Accessories-Capacity/dp/B09BMX54HD/ref=asc_df_B09BMX54HD/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=532606083338&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12496940625862324760&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9052760&hvtargid=pla-1465775779185&psc=1
  7. Marty, Remember that all Buicks of the day had roller lifters and the lifter to cam interface was not considered that important for wear. Buick had roller lifters even in the 2 cylinder Model F cars. Terry, Congrats on getting your car running.
  8. The circle of individuals that we, my wife and I associate with are doing a number of driving tours every summer. The number of tours for the members go from a low of maybe 4 or 5 to one member doing as many as 15 tours each summer. We personally have three tours that are back to back the month of September. We have driven our '13 so much that we have worn out the tires and I need to put new tires on it. I recently got the tires and will be doing that job in the next couple of weeks. We barely let the engines get cold during the touring season.
  9. Start packing and move to SE Mich, north of Detroit in the northern suburbs. Lots of open roads to drive on with so-so traffic. There are lots of nice rides up in the thumb area. Plus SE Michigan has more car events in the summer than you will be able to attend. Almost every weekend has at least one event if not overlapping events in the area.
  10. I have never see that in all of the driving we have had driving our cars and truck. Most of the time people are taking pictures. Our standard comment after going out for a drive is we wonder how many facebook pages we will be on at the end of the drive.
  11. I think the older cars are just being turned over as the current owners are aging out of the hobby are having their cars sold. Think baby boomers. Aging out and passing on. With such a large number of individuals in that age group there is a large number of cars coming to market causing some of the prices to soften. As for driving those old cars, as long as you are not in a high speed area, you can still drive these cars. Take them out in the "country" and enjoy the ride. Last year we drove almost 2,000 miles on our 1913 Buick touring car.
  12. Jack, That is a change from the vote to discontinue the program when I was on the board. That motion by Mike Book to discontinue the program and the vote of if I remember correctly of 7 to 1 to discontinue had scheduled to have the program discontinued about now.
  13. Don't forget that any oil today is better than the oil that was available at the time the vehicle was built. As long as you get a viscosity of oil appropriate for your driving, any oil will do.
  14. You can just buy a timer for a table light and plug it into the charger. https://www.amazon.com/Century-Indoor-24-Hour-Mechanical-Outlet/dp/B01LPSGBZS/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=32666Z4UNK62N&keywords=light+timer&qid=1657079224&sprefix=light+timer%2Caps%2C163&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExSkcxQ0o1ODhENlJFJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUExMDE4NzYyMVcyNVo0TEQwWEhSMiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNzIyOTQ4MlJYMUNQREhLQ01GMiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
  15. They would probably then use a rock.
  16. Electra63: Well I hope this man can put it back together or I'm in trouble 🙂😆 "man put it together, man can take it apart and put it back together".
  17. I would use a 50:50 solution of acetone & automatic transmission fluid
  18. A good radiator shop should be able to help you. I would tell you not to expect a couple of hundred to recore it. Might be looking in the $500-$1,000 range. I just bought a core for another car and the core alone was $400.00
  19. Terry, The caps are going to be about $500.00. Talk to Tom V for more info. Look here:
  20. Manual says that it should work. 2.8 Use the charger for charging only 6 and 12V LEAD-ACID (STD, AGM or deep- cycle) rechargeable batteries with recommended rated capacities of 12Ah (6V) and 7-33Ah (12V). It is not intended to supply power to a low voltage electrical system other than in a starter-motor application. Do not use battery charger for charging dry-cell batteries that are commonly used with home appliances. These batteries may burst and cause injury to persons and damage to property
  21. For what it is worth, an Optima battery is AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery and it takes a special type of charger. Many newer chargers are set up for AGM batteries, but not all. You need to check the charger. An old style charger may not work, especially if it is discharged..
