  1. Perhaps this website will help. Its for polishing plastic auto headlights. The 3M product maybe the ticket using just the polishing compound. Obviously you don't need to use the sand paper steps for this application. Let us know how it turns out and what did you finally use. Review: 3M - 39008 - Headlight Lens Restoration System
  2. I guess I'll be the first to start this thread. 20+ inches in central NJ with drifts well over 4 feet. There really is a Saturn Sky Turbo under that mound! Chris
  3. I rebuilt the shutter thermostat for my '30 model L 10+ years ago myself with no problems. Ensure the bellows and housing doesn't have any leaks. I used a bright light test method to find the pin hole and repaired it by soldering it. I then did a leak down test at about 10 psi for several hours. Finally, the liquid I used was a dry gas product that included Methyl Alcohol. It is important to find and use Methyl Alcohol (wood alcohol) as the boiling temp is right (about 148 degrees F as I recall) for this application and you cannot use Isopropel (rubbing) alcohol. The dry gas I used was at a local drug store of all places, just check the ingredients. Fill the bellows/housing only half full, to leave room for the liquid to expand. I used a machine screw on the back (solder hole) with sealing washer vs soldering the hole shut. By making the fill hole with threads, it facilitated the leak down test. Test in a boiling pot of water several times.
  4. There is a product on the market called the Car Capsule CarCapsule: The Ultimate Car Cover It's a vinyl based bag that zips together along the perimeter after you drive onto the base. It has a small 12 Watt computer fan with foam filter that pushes air into the closed bag. In about a 1/2 hour the bag is totally inflated. The manufacturer anticipates a small amount of air leaks out through the zipper seam. Its supposed to run continuously, but there are some that use timers on it to run it for say 8 hours in a day. A 12 watt fan doesn't really draw that much. I've used one since 1998 and still no problem. The little bit of air that cycles through it keeps dust off it and I would advise using a good cover over the car. There are various lengths and heights and at one point they even offerred a silver outdoor version, though it doesn't show up on the order list any more. View the videos on their website under the Information Tab.
  5. This speedo & Clock combo is right for 1924 or possibly earlier till March 1927 when Lincoln changed their dash arrangement to an oval cluster. The oval cluster was populated with a round speedometer, wind up clock, fuel gauge and oil & amp gauges. The earlier years used individual gauges on the dash till the oval cluster was introduced.
  6. Alex, Not every engine problem can be solved with a "snake oil" remedy, however, I have had good success with Seafoam. Seafoam is an gas and crankcase oil additive and been around for quite a few decades, just not widely known. Find it in you area or get it via the web. Accept no substitues.
  7. I personally like Kwik Poly for its low viscosity and its ability to seep into joints. I wrote the attached article on KP which may help. While the article's problem and yours are differant, the principles are the same. Important to get the door's wood into the correct shape (profile). Once glued, its not likely to move. http://www.metroccca.org/tech_articles/tech_07_winter.pdf Chris
  8. I knew of a shop in Long Island City called Cool Weld, but thought they did the oven method. I have welded cast iron using special welding rods from Muggyweld. Their link and my article is posted at: Muggy Weld Presents: Cast Iron Welding A regular competant welder should be able to do this using Muggy's cast iron welding rods. Remember to use a technique called back stiching. Practicing on some old marine cast iron manifolds may be in order. Good Luck,
  9. #393 is a window mechanism for a sedan. The use of bicycle chain and gears under spring tension was common. #399 maybe a window mechanism for either a division window or a rear window (partial blind) where the crank is offset and at a suitable height.
  10. A hydrostatic gas gauge usually works well when it is set up correctly. The red fluid is four (4) times denser than gasoline, hence adding four inches of gas in the tank will translate to one inch movement on the tube (gas gauge). If you want to test the system with water in a seperate tank keep in mind that water's density will be 1:1 and not 4:1, hence adding water will shoot the red fluid out the top of the tube at a rate four times that of gas.
  11. With the intake manifold integral with the cylinders (block), why couldn't a crack or leaky head gasket provide pressure effectively eliminating any intake vaccuum. Thought Marshy said he has this set up on gravity feed.
  12. Marshy said that this happened during a run, so what happened and what broke to suddenly goof up a running engine?? Could be head or manifold gasket is broke or leaking. Suggest taking a cylinder compression test looking for adjacent cylinder leakage (head gasket problem) and do individual cylinder leak down tests. May I also suggest running it on propane or ether? A regular propane tank and regulator with a rubber hose (whip) into the intake. If it continues to run then intake vacuum is acceptable & the carb needs further examination. If not, then other items as mentioned. Could it have jumped timing where the cam (valve timing) is out for one or more cylinders?
  13. Barry, Two suggestions, either cast one as suggested by West; related article I wrote earlier this year is at: http://www.metroccca.org/tech_articles/tech_10_spring.pdf or find a similar lens and make a stencil (using artwork laser cut into sheet metal) and sandblast Continental into it. Chris W.

  16. Didn't Cadillac locate the battery in the trunk in either '49 or '50? The same year they introduced the electric trunk release.....When the battery went dead, your couldn't get access to the battery
  17. Bob, A couple of suggestions: 1. Controlight Specialties, LLC » Remote Control Lighting Company claims 500 foot range. $230. 2. Look for Velleman controllers & receivers. They operate in UHF frequency band and may have the 250 foot range. $60 3. Look into GE Z-wave system vs X-10 system range still may only be 100 feet. 4. Garage Openers & Remotes | Electric Gates | Gate Operators & Keypads Gate House has controllers for all garage doors. Suggest calling them with problem. Claim is one controller has 10 mile range. 5. Try simple wireless light controller (GE brand) from Lowes. Mount receiver high up as height extends the stated range by 200%. It may work. 6. Ask this question on Garagejournal.com
  18. Restoration Supply Company has the clamps. Not sure if the screws and nuts come with it: RSC
  19. Jeff, Suggest you try Auto Color Library at Auto Color Library - The World's Largest Online Color-Chip Library You may not find a listing for Peerless, but the Intermix Color numbers does show the name of the color, like IM-250 Maturia Blue and IM-263 Mount Vernon Blue. This will get you close. The final decision will be with you and your local paint jobber. Chris
  20. Looking for a drawing or picture on how a Landau Bar hinge joint is formed? If anyone has a Landau Bar laying around and could take a picture of both sides while open and seperated, it would be appreciated. These pictures don't provide enough information, like are the large circular caps a part of the bar or are they seperate peices and screwed together? How do the Bar's pivot points mate together?
  21. FOR SALE: 1964 Ford Galaxie Convertible Details at: FOR SALE 1964 Ford Galaxie 2 Door Convertible
  22. I believe there is a Restoration source in Michigan that reproduces the Stewart Warner lid in cast Aluminum to replace the pot metal version. I too recommend rebuilding the vacuum tank.
  23. Try restoration specialties: Restoration Specialties & Supply, Inc.
  24. By all means plan for this Cleveland meet, but the follow up meet for Jordan's only should be..........Somewhere West of Laramie
  25. For what its worth, there are two 1926 Jordan sedans in Monmouth County, NJ, about four miles from each other. One is owned by Jess Jordan (no relationship to Ned Jordan) who's owned his for 40+ years. Up till recently Jess drove his to the Hershey show each fall. Jess is now 92 and is only driving his Jordan occasionally. The second is an AACA senior owned by Jules Baron. Jules is easy to spot at Hershey: Goofy Hat and baby carriage cart called a Jerk-Mobile.
