  1. I live in the Hudson Valley, have my entire life. I tell people I'm from upstate because they automatically assume NYC otherwise. Only once have I ever actually encountered anyone while traveling who knew the difference. NYCers generally do consider us upstate, even though my house to Times Square is 1 hour 18 minutes away.
  2. I'm surprised that with the definite focus on pre-war cars that a noticably 20s or older car didn't make the logo. I do like the logo, and the art deco inspired font, but I'm still surprised.
  3. I appreciate that James but I don't have the money. Most everything goes to the medical stuff that I require to stay alive.
  4. I'd love to get my hands on that, clean it up and take it to every cruise night I could find. A four door Edsel is one of my dream cars. If I could just convince myself to stop spending so much in my other hobbies I could do it within a few months, probably. I got one of those promos back in February. They are still out there...still has the original box, too. They were made of acetate and warp badly but mine has only a little warping.
  5. Raises hand. I am one of those people. I have health related circumstances, but I still feel like a total failure for not being able to do even the simple things. It's going to haunt me for the rest of my life. And people wonder why I'm never happy...
  6. Way cool. I read that in WWII they started making an aircraft carrier out of ice but changed their mind and abandoned it before it was finished.
  7. Autocorrect can be helpful, but sometimes frustrating, as I'm sure u2 would agree.
  8. I hope to attend one of your conventions someday. Sadly only as a spectator, not a participant, but still.
  9. I get you guys point about free advertising even if I think that's trivial myself...but, the guy in the article was talking about not buying a 40+ year old car.
  10. I'm glad I discovered the "view newly updated topics" link (or whatever the official name is) because I had never seen one of these or even heard of it. I thought I had kept up on all the American brands but obviously I missed something. If you enter it at the Road Knights show maybe I'll even see this one next year.
  11. Do you know of, or perhaps have, any strange automotive habits? I just think it would make for interesting reading, to be honest. For example I remember reading in Hemmings about somebody who would not buy a car if it had any dealer badging on it.
  12. 1964 or 65. I don't know them as well as the El Camino, so I'm not sure which one it is. But I like it! (This is supposed to be above the 57, but I can't figure out how to do that on my tablet). Paul, that is a beautiful '57. My favorite year of Ranchero, without question. The 1957 models are my favorite 50s Fords. That side trim is just so attractive.
  13. I'm disappointed because it would have been my first one, but there's no way I would have gone anyway with my health problems. Hoping for next year but as a history nut I know it may not be possible until 2023. Pandemics tend to last three years. Even if it's held next year I may not go depending on the situation. Not good for me but that is the situation I've been forced to deal with. I've been "social distancing" since the 1990s, I can handle this.
  14. I don't know if the line above about China and Buick was meant as a joke or and insult, but China has loved Buicks since the 1920s. The first car ever imported to China was a Buick. It made such an impression on the country they issued a commemerative coin showing it, known today as the Auto Dollar. They are actually really rare and in mint condition would actually sell for more than the car shown would. They have been the target of counterfeits since at least the 1980s though.
  15. Welcome! Great to hear of 70s cars getting treated well.
  16. Welcome! I love the looks of these cars...I fell in love when I saw a solid black one parked in Lake George, NY about 15 years ago.
  17. I've heard in the Edsel groups I'm in on Facebook that the weight of it makes the rear suspension struggle. But I absolutely would, to answer your question. Of course, I've wanted to own an Edsel since I was a teenager.
  18. Based on the supposed location, that is probably literal and not a figure of speech.
  19. Don't forget the "shinny" paint! I read a lot of things and wonder how people manage to make it though life. You can tell when someone hits the wrong letter as opposed to not understanding the basic workings of the English language.
  20. Great comment. Knowing your limitations is something most people aren't aware of. A modified car is fine to start with, since it gives you something to learn with without having to worry about damaging it, a way to build your skills. At 18 you are just starting your automotive journey. I don't recommend shortened cars. Besides the looks, which I don't care for, I have heard that they are not particularly stable at speed, although I've just heard it from other people, I've never actually been in one myself. But I have heard it from more than one source. There is a shortened 1957 Chevrolet wagon I see fairly often at my favorite hot rod show. I hate to say it but the owners of the car were probably discriminating against you both for age and gender. There are sadly a lot of people who don't understand that young girls can grow up fascinated by cars just like young boys do on a regular basis. I believe that I lost a car due to age discrimination when I was 16. I hope you persevere and find a car of your own soon!
  21. That is fantastic news! I hope the car was unharmed.
  22. My family currently leases a 2018 Ford Edge...it's the first time my mom ever got to have a new car, and she's been on the road since 1970. We don't know what to do when the lease comes up. On the one hand, it's nice to have a car that we can trust, on the other hand, we're used to having a car that only runs when it wants to and we got to the point where we would only go as far as we could walk home from, because we had to, more than once. We are afraid that in time the Edge will go the same way. The fact that we don't have a garage means that it's exposed to the elements 24/7 is also a concern. It's actually an unusual feeling for me to get in the car and actually expect to get where I want to go without breaking down. I lived the first 34 years of my life never experiencing that. Every car we've ever had we used until it quit running. Because my dad was a mechanic and cheap, he refused to spend more than $400 for a car, even in 1999. So we always ended up with junk that barely worked, if it did at all. He dragged them all to the scrapyard when they were done. Unfortunately my health doesn't allow me to work on cars or even drive so we have to pay someone to do the maintenance. I'm leaning towards keeping it, because it's so comfortable and it is known...we know all about it because we put all but 6 miles on it. Every other car we've had we were the 3rd owner at least. We have had it since July 2018 and have already made some great memories in it, including driving out to Illinois and ending up on Route 66, a long time dream of mine. But I also don't know if that's the right choice, I'm really conflicted. I love the Edge but I don't want to have another Jeep experience.
  23. I want to read the thread but I don't have enough battery life to read it! The top NASCAR modeling forum accidentally got deleted several years ago... all posts, all members. Never got recovered... it was something like 14 years worth of history and over a million posts. Gone forever.
