  1. Great looking car. Hope you drive it every day! dave s
  2. I agree the above applies but if you live I a big city stop and go is your daily commute to work and back. To give you an idea we lived 30 miles west of Chicago in a little town called Wayne 1500 people and 900 horses. We would leave at 3 PM to go to symphony hall for a concert that started at 7PM and sometimes we would just make it before they closed the doors until intermission. Thats 35 miles in 3 to 4 hours and LA is worse! I’ve sat in grid lock in NY and not moved a block in 20 minutes. That’s stop and go traffic also dave s
  3. The way the insurance guy explained it to me was —if towing by your insured legal vehicle (meaning not exceeding weight limits) you have liability only. No collision. You have nothing if it is parked unhooked. You have no collision hooked or unhooked towing or not. If you pay for a separate policy you can insure for collision, extra liability (also covers if it unhooks while moving and damages others) and theft. This type policy would cover hail damage also. Hope that helps. dave s
  4. Karguy12, may I ask what university is going to help and where you are located. I’m not a mechanical genius but have rebuilt a number of engines and would love to help with this project if you need and want it. dave s edit ps - I’m old and slow but like that goofy bunny I just keep going.
  5. Welcome, pictures of everything, sides, front, back top of hood and even very top. Inside pics, engine pics, wheels and if possible underneath. The more you show the better the people that know this make and model can give you an idea of price. Also where the general area the car is located. Not actual location but the state or area within a state. Good luck it’s a nice looking car, I would keep it but understand your circumstances. dave s
  6. I understood but I think you are saying an oxymoron. Safe effective car cover while towing is a perfect example. I hope the tape works and doesn’t damage the paint. I look forward to your results post. Good luck. dave s
  7. I could have YOM plates in KY and even remanufactured plates as long as they were correct and not in current use. I wanted STUD38 but my better half nixed it, probably for the best. I know I couldn’t live up to it. dave s
  8. John Mc, I hate to tell you this but a convertible with the top down when it rains gets wet. Your trailer is also a convertible! Anything on it is going to get wet, it’s what happens when it rains and there isn’t a roof over things. Not trying to be a smart a$$, it’s just common sense. Buy a covered car hauler or rent one if you want to haul it yourself or use a commercial hauler. Sorry if that sounds harsh. dave s
  9. Peter, an old horsemen’s trick if you want a horse to drink — add a little bourbon to the water. They love the smell and taste. How you do that on the forum is your problem to solve. dave s
  10. Paul, nice looking car. If that’s your shop it looks as if you like the color of your cars to be red and only red! dave s
  11. That’s because you are a kind giving person or the fact they know you have a very big dog! dave s
  12. If it’s Italian maybe it’s an early Ferrari 😳 dave s
  13. Kerry, we had a two horse with a 6 ‘ dressing room goose neck that was insured as an independent vechicle as the car coverage does not cover it when it is not attached AND in use. Parked is not covered attached or not on your car insurance. The cost was $70 a year. No deductible covered damage and theft parked or in use. I did it just as a precaution. dave s
  14. Yes, they also had the highest paid woman in the auto industry design the interiors, she was a NY fashion designer. The 38 Studebaker was the Art Deco design of the year winner. I would be willing to trade my 38 for this 33 if they want too. dave s
  15. I like the black wall version better also. The roof almost looks chopped but better looking. Lowery really was a master of design. dave s
  16. I remember the movie “It’s a mad mad world” had a seen with the toll booth for 25 cents. I can’t get the scene to download. Cars are chasing each other first one goes thru booth at 60 mph and the attendant holds his hand out and the quartet is in it next car right behind the first and there are two quarters in his hand, same thing happens with third car the fourth car speeds thru leaves a dollar and the quarters are gone. Long time since a quarter toll dave s
  17. Ed, your knowledge of old time mechanics and experiences driving old cars far surpasses much older guys and diffidentlyyour age. Age is what you make it. I tell people I’m 25 with three times the experience. At least in my head I’m that way my body doesn’t agree. That’s ok because I’m still having fun. dave s
  18. Jegs and Summit sell reproduction ones like it, you have to paint it. eBay has a number of them some in different colors of reds. dave s
  19. I’m old and don’t worry about problems now that I have Ed’s phone number. He’s a lot younger, smarter and mechanically inclined than I am but I’m a better judge of good whiskey. I just send him a bottle for his expert help dave s
  20. RA= regular army (guys that joined) NG= national guard (doing their basic or advanced training) US= drafted for two years minimum ( guys thought about heading to Canada ) When it was time to head to the mess hall (place they served what was supposed to be food) the Sargent would dismiss in the above order so we draftees always had to stand in line longer. You then had to call out your service number US5481….. in order to enter the mess hall. We had a guy that had a stutter and the Sargent would always make him go first just so it would take longer for us to get in. The guy was pretty smart and eventually figured out if he sang it he didn’t stutter at all. Things changed after the draft ended as the drill Sargents must have gone nuts trying to figure out who to jump on the most. dave s
