  1. Walt I agree with you a better area description is needed on many post as some names are just locally know. I know Gig Harbor is a little NW of Tacoma WA or SW of Seattle WA because I took a trip out there a few years ago. At first I thought Maine but realized that’s the gig harbor lobster boats not the city. Always thinking first of a good seafood meal I guess. dave s
  2. Will make a great parts car you just have to dig the model. dave s
  3. The only thing more impressive than the tools is Dandy Dave’s ability to use them so beautifully. dave s
  4. You can also fine cheap boxes of all brands at an auction house called “ everything but the house”. When people move and downsize a lot of tool boxes ( some with tools in them) go up for auction. I’ve seen some go for $50 or $75 up to $300 but not much more than that. Sorry I don’t have the actual site name but it should be easy to google. dave s
  5. As a MB owner this thread has been very informative and interesting. Would my 2011 350E 4matic with a six cylinder engine and 120+ thousand miles on it also have these timing chain guides that fail? I know it has a double chain but no idea about the guides. If no one can answer does anyone know of a good MB forum for a 2011 car? I ask as this one is so darn good I don’t want to get on with a bunch of tractor mechanics as our master wizard Ed calls them. Thanks dave s
  6. I had a similar problem on my 38 Studebaker after rebuilding the carb, fuel pump, new electric pump, plugs, plug wires, points, rotor and cap. The master wizard ( of course I mean Ed better know as edinmass) took pity on me and had me send him my distributor. Fifteen minutes later he had it fixed. It was a bad wire in the distributor. I didn’t even know there was a wire in the distributor! He sent it back it runs great, cooler by 10 degrees and 3 more miles per gallon. Follow Ed’s and Pete O’s advice and I’ll bet you will solve the problem. Good luck. dave s ps edit correction miles per gallon not gallons per mile ! Thanks Grony for catching it.
  7. Looks like it was longer than he could haul so he cut that part off and stuffed it in the car. dave s
  8. Don’t you mean you are 26 with three times the experience! dave s
  9. I don’t know about “Dating an AMC front end” I would rather find a complete young lady! dave s
  10. I like the car! Doesn’t matter if the picture looks bad because or angle or distortion. It’s a beautiful car. I guess my humor is distorted! dave s
  11. But Kerry you drive a Firebird not a Mustang!! They may make you pay for admission because of that. dave s
  12. I recently did my first true body repair on my 38. Some of you may remember that process I documented in a thread. It took at least twice as long doing each step of the process partially because I had never done it but also each dent was just harder to do correctly. There are some that still need to be redone to be decent. I did have experience replacing rusted sheet metal on my 49 pickup and feel that is so much easier than repairing sheet metal. Time in a body shop must be a major concern as you can’t ever get it back. The top pic was my 49 bed the middle shows the 49 after rust repairs on bed and fenders. The last was the 38 repairs needed. The 38 took a lot longer than expected even with all of your warnings and help
  13. I certainly wouldn’t kick it out of the garage if it was mine! That would be worse than kicking my wife out of bed! dave s Ps if I did I’m afraid she would take her revenge while I slept!
  14. Ed & Phil, you should make this a contest! The winner gets to buy you a bottle of CR! Then if you change the name every week (or maybe every day) announcing a new winner you could be set with you CR for quite a while! dave s
  15. How about calling it “Buster” as it busted the two of your “b@&&$” for a while and when Phil is driving it it will be the “Philabuster”! dave s
  16. Dave, my mistake. I was tired from driving back to SC from VA and read another thread where he responded. I owned and ran a service bureau for 50 years and I still don’t understand all this computer stuff. dave s
  17. Check with NASCAR they do an amazing job with not only the team trailers ( all about same size though) and fan motor homes. Of course at most tracks they have a lot of space. They do like to maximize the $ they charge so want to get as many in a premium viewing space as possible. Just a thought. dave s
  18. Gunsmoke, I apologize as I did take it off topic in some ways. I’m glad you got it back on track. It is a good, important subject for dodge owners. dave s
  19. Jack, find an old main frame disk drive and pull the two magnets out of it. They are about 10 inches long 5 inches deep and two inches thick. They touch each other and form a square with a cut out circle in the middle. They were used to retract the read/write heads on the disk. If you find a cabinet with a complete disk in it they make great storage cabinets. Just trash all the disk crap and wiring. They usually have good wheels on them also so they are mobile. I had six or seven in my old garage that I sold before our move. I wish I had them now. Came from my old computer room and actually saved the cost of having to junk them. dave s ps they are about 30”x 30” square & 40” high
  20. Why is it all gas stations are the same prices in an area? If car dealers all had the exact same prices on like cars wouldn’t the govt step iin and say it’s a monopoly or collusion therefore illegal and guys like Matt would go to jail. But the gas company honchos get bonuses instead. 200 billion in profits is obscene when they say cost of crude is just higher so gas has to be higher. 200 billion is obscene for their excuse. 200 billion is obscene but we are not upset with the gas company and blame taxes. Get real guys it’s simply greed. dave s ps - just to be sure you know how I feel 209 billion in profits are obscene to use an excuse of cost have gone higher so prices have to go up.
  21. Matt you would need a liquor license and then more hassle with the state inspectors. dave s
  22. I have a few magnets out of an old mainframe IBM disk drive. I put one under the car when I’m doing work up above. If I drop a nut or washer or heaven forbid a wrench I don’t have to look for it. I just pull the magnet out and use a pliers to remove it. It’s a big magnet. dave s
