  1. CT-You are correct, I was going by the corporate information. I knew he bought the McDonald brothers out or force them out depending on which side you talk too. Ray Kroc lived in Ginger Creek Illinois near my in-laws and built his house with arches all around the outside. He was a character to say the least but his wife got the house in the end. dave s The McDonald's #1 Store Museum[2] was housed in a replica of the former McDonald's restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois, opened by Ray Kroc in April 1955. The company usually refers to this as The Original McDonald's, although it is not the first McDonald's restaurant but the ninth; the first was opened by Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernardino, California in 1940, while the oldest McDonald's still in operation is the third one built, in Downey, California, which opened in 1953. However, the Des Plaines restaurant marked the beginning of future CEO Kroc's involvement with the firm. It opened under the aegis of his franchising company McDonald's Systems, Inc., which became McDonald's Corporation after Kroc purchased the McDonald brothers' stake in the firm.
  2. Somewhat back to Matt’s original idea, here is my most recent win. My 38 would start ok but had no power. Tried everything then that flying first class character from MA & FL known as Ed (why I said somewhat above) found the thread and said send the distributor to him. About 15 minutes after receiving it he called me and said it was all fixed. It had a short below the point area I would have never found. Then the best part for me he said no cost! Not even shipping cost back. That maybe because I sent him a bottle of Woodford Reserve he and Phil started tasting right away. Lucky me. dave s
  3. The very first McDonald’s is still standing and had a dedicated park area around it in Park Forest ( I think) Illinois. A western or north western suburb of Chicago. They don’t sell hamburgers or French fries any longer! dave s
  4. I can’t fix it but I’m willing to help push if it comes to that! dave s
  5. The car is in the show on Friday. It will be in a not judged class as it is a driver. This is the car I smashed the front end on by stopping in the trunk of a MB. Seeing more than 60 members of the forum helped me with advice on how to repair it, I thought they may want to see their handiwork! Any of it not up to par will be due to conflicting advice along with my confusion, in capability and stupidity otherwise what they did was extraordinary. It was a fun thread but way too much sanding for an old man. dave s
  6. I’m looking for 1938 Studebaker State Commander door key blanks. I’ve checked every locksmith in the area and no luck. They say they can make the key if I have the blanks. Thanks dave s
  7. That is one very long snake. Hell I wouldn’t have just run upstairs I would have been on the roof!😳 How does the song go “ I don’t like spiders and snakes, and that is all it takes to make me run”. Something like that, right? dave s
  8. I’ve had pictures sent, talked with them, checked with clubs and still the car or parts were not what they said they were. I’ve resorted to a face time call to actually see the parts or I don’t bother with any more time wasted. If they say they can’t face time or the parts are in storage at a different location I don’t waste any more time. dave s
  9. I’ll go right by there, but no time to stop this trip. My daughter is in Barboursville so will be back in the area. Would love to see you shop and cars. dave s
  10. I’m just about set to pack up the 38 Studebaker for the 650 mile trip to Hershey. This will be my first time attending, and hopefully the car will be there too. Leaving Aiken SC, about 20 miles from the GA border, so four states to transverse. The plan is to take pics along the way to document the trip. I will try to stay off the interstate but may have to use them around the larger cities I will encounter. Just a few more things I want to check before we leave the garage. dave s
  11. Ed, if you think you’re too old to travel far for a car, one heck of a lot of us are waaaay too ancient to do it! dave s
  12. This guy was in my daughters kitchen until her dog barked at it enough to make it leave. My daughter stayed half way up the stairs until it left. I would have been all the way up! dave s
  13. Ed, at least you had some experience for the distributor thanks to my 38 Studebaker you fixed so fast! dave s
  14. Thanks, George, Coach & Tom. George hope to see you again, your grille is on the 38! Tom & Coach hope to meet you there. dave s
  15. Ed, it will be better to drive as the Great White or even the smaller White won’t fit in the overhead on any airplane. It has to be at Hershey. dave s
  16. Is this thread another one hit wonder? No response by OP since he posted Tuesday. dave s
  17. Tom, being a first time Hershey goer I noticed you said you turned toward the Studebaker guys. I assume that some of them are close to each other. May I ask where that might be? All I’ve ever heard of Hershey is huge and being a bit messed up in the leg department it may help to know where I’m going. Thanks, dave s
  18. I was scheduled to fly in the F16 two seat trainer. The lead pilot for the Viper Squadron (The Air Force east coast F16 full combat demonstration squadron) was the son of very good friend that passed away. He knew how much I loved to fly and was good to the family when his dad passed so he set it up. Two hours before the flight some visiting congressmen said he wanted a ride and I got bumped due to time restrictions for training. I would have liked to launch a stinger missile up that politicians asset! dave s
  19. I like it. I would like to see it in person just to get a better perspective on the size of it. In the pics it seems very big. dave s
  20. I’ve got you all beat hands down. I am still doing it too, easily the most unique complicated thing anywhere. My wife, I drive her crazy. dave s
  21. The Gene Ponder collection auction starts today you may be interested it as it has a lot of MG parts, engines along with carb setups. https://rmsothebys.com/ dave s
  22. What’s your plan for the undercarriage? Another body? A non-body use or a rat rod? dave s
  23. In case you didn’t know, Ed doesn’t hold back. He tells it like it is! dave s
