  1. I did the same a couple of months ago - fortunately I was able to return it. Someone just gave me a new gallon of the +32° stuff (I guess it's the thought that counts). How much denatured alcohol would be required to lower the freeze point to zero? It probably winds-up costing more than just buying a gallon of the pre-mixed -20° stuff for $5...
  2. What does it look like under the hood? Too bad about the SBC, but I guess you have at least been able to make lemonade from what you started with... The car does look good and the tail lights seem to look better with the car outside in the picture above. So, when is the 'maiden voyage' scheduled?
  3. Another '67 with the black cloth upholstery that I like. I wonder what this car looks like in the daylight...
  4. @sebastienbuick has recently been working through rubber and seal replacement on his '69 Electra restoration. You can scan through his restoration thread at the link below and see where he sourced pieces for his car. I think some pieces were unavailable as direct replacements and he had to make what is available work. Here's the link: https://forums.aaca.org/topic/278323-restore-my-buick-electra-1969/page/39/#comment-2580737
  5. CARS has this: and this, if 'original' isn't an issue:
  6. What kind of mileage are people seeing when towing with the Duramax/Allison? A friend of mine mentioned 14 mpg, but I believe that's pulling an RV trailer of unknown (to me) size/weight. For the number of miles I'll be towing annually, I think the 8.1 will be fine for me; particularly as a first tow vehicle. My brother had an F350 crew cab dually with the 7.3 and manual transmission. He loved it and only sold it when he decided to go with a Class A motorhome.
  7. From Edmunds for the 2001 Suburban 2500: I calculated 15.3 mpg on my trip from VA to NY at mostly 65 mph.
  8. That was the original 265 in my '56 Bel Air. Finally cleared the air with a 283/aluminum Powerglide transplant.
  9. I'll bet it was the turbines!
  10. I have one that I use in tight spaces where more torque than simply twisting a bare socket with your fingers is required.
  11. So, it sounds like 2% error due to tire size and that leaves 5% to the speedometer/odometer and the drive gear in the transmission. 5% error for a 1960s speedometer doesn't sound terrible to me. That's 57 ~ 63 mph at an indicated 60 mph. A speedometer drive gear change will probably make it worse...
  12. Ah, OK then. If it's the hand-held jumper/pushbutton type I agree; sounds like a wiring harness issue somewhere.
  13. Those are great cars - congratulations! The Buick will certainly be easier on gas than your Mark Vs!
  14. Is there even a problem? I would wait until the car can be driven and then check the odometer accuracy. There may be nothing to fix. Worst case is to make a speedometer drive gear change, which takes about 10 minutes to accomplish once under the car...
  15. Originally, the plan was to offer the SD-455 in the Grand Am also. Too bad it never happened. A '73 SD-455 Grand Am 4 speed coupe would blow my mind!
  16. If the truck has only been driven ~100 miles since being idle for years I wouldn't panic (yet). Get some more miles on it; preferably longer trips (20 ~ 30 miles minimum). A long highway jaunt would help, particularly after adding the Rislone. Make sure that the dipstick is correct for the engine and especially the dipstick tube. I seem to recall several different dipstick configurations were used on the BB engines over the years. Overfilling the crankcase can cause excessive oil consumption. If it was over full, did the old oil smell like gasoline? A faulty fuel pump can leak gas into the crankcase and adulterated oil will easily pass by the rings and valve guides. If unsure, drain and refill with the specified quantity, then check the level on the stick. A PCV problem is another possibility. Check that the plumbing is correct and the correct PCV valve is installed. I wouldn't even think of rebuild, valve job or even valve seals until I had accumulated about 1,000 miles of observation. Is there any evidence of oil leakage? It doesn't take much oil to tinge the exhaust, but a leaky rear main seal can lose a lot of oil pretty quickly.
  17. This ^^^. This is the first I recall hearing about a remote starter in this car... First thing I would do is disable/remove the remote starter and see whether the problem goes away.
  18. Do you know for certain that the one in the transmission is incorrect? I'd wait until the car is driveable and then check the odometer for accuracy. Even if it does need to be changed, that's an easy job once you're under the car.
  19. A GMC "Sierra Grande" - not a common sight, even back in the '70s...
  20. I always wondered why Pontiac decided to call that color (Carousel Red) 'red' rather than ____________ Orange, or something else...
  21. I think a '68 or '69 may interchange... There is a filler at the leading edge of the '70 hood that would be required, however. Also, not sure about hinge compatibility. May need the ones that belong to the hood, but not sure. Post over in the Riviera forum as Glenn suggested - someone will know for certain.
  22. I had a '90 Bonneville (basically the same car mechanically) and it was a great driver. Had 110K on it when I bought it. All I did was replace the timing chain and tensioner and a faulty crankshaft position sensor. Gave it to my son at about 175K. I would have driven that car cross-country without a second thought. Glad to see that you're keeping this one on the road!
