  1. Also check the vacuum advance diaphragm. The one in my '38 was bad, but Bob's sells rebuilt ones (with exchange). https://bobsautomobilia.com/shop/distributor-parts/37-52-vacuum-advance-va-372/
  2. I don't know if it's just the angle, or that picture was altered, but that hood looks a mile long!
  3. Fortunately, it looks like "better days ahead" for the one above!
  4. I love (NOT) that type of failure. Anyway, glad you have it resolved. The vacuum advance should help both performance and gas mileage. Good to hear the truck is running again. Your description of the problem made me think it might be a bad cam... Can't wait to see your Franklin!
  5. Passenger side? My '67 doesn't have anything on the passenger side valve cover. Does the driver's side (or maybe your passenger side) look like this? CA emission cars would have a hose to the air cleaner housing installed in place of the forward plug. CARS lists both painted and chrome versions of the twist-on breather/oil cap. https://oldbuickparts.com/product/oil-cap-black/ https://oldbuickparts.com/product/oil-cap-chrome-plated/
  6. Holy cow! That's a good ride for you - what time did you leave home? You should plan a stop at Thruway exit 34 on the way home. If lunch or dinner time we could visit Flo's...
  7. Are they still using 'good intentions'?
  8. That will make a big difference! Should be much more comfortable both summer and winter.

  10. Wow! That's what I call a power(ful) saw... So, I'm a little confused about what comes next. Does a new footing need to be poured? I thought you said earlier that there was no crack in the footing. If so, did everything simply sink in that corner? Are you and the contractor sure that the subsoil is now stable? Thanks for the pictures - this is quite a task!
  11. That's exactly what I have resorted to. Ironically, it makes the rest of the 'improved' website totally irrelevant...
  12. I love the '69 - '72 GPs. I particularly like the sculptured rear end on the '71 & '72. This is a beauty and I don't think I have ever seen one sans vinyl roof! Looks great 'naked'...
  13. Well, since it remains awful since they revised their website many months ago, I have to believe that it was designed to be terrible.
  14. "...rebuilt 401 when parked." Ah, a new twist on an old favorite!
  15. That VW filter sock is perfect - I'll have to remember that one!
  16. Ha - so does the shop where I have my cars inspected! There are two types of stickers used in NY; one is safety & emissions and the other is safety only (pre-1996 cars). Now the shop has to change paper rolls in the sticker printer when going from one type to the other. I believe at least one sticker blank is wasted in the process. That requires the shop to submit a request for credit. This, of course, helps to make things more efficient and lower costs...
  17. I'm thinking it's possibly sticky valves since the sound seems to be channeled through the intake manifold and carburetor. I would pull the valve covers and spark plugs. Set a dial indicator on each rocker arm (start with the intake valves) and roll the engine with the starter looking for anything other than smooth needle movement. Any momentary twitch or jump would be a clue. If you find a suspect, try spraying some WD-40 on the valve stem and repeat. If this turns out to be the issue, I'd probably just drive it for a couple hundred miles and keep a close eye on it. Chances are the guides would wear-in and everything will be OK.
