  1. I though he answered that in the following, you might have missed it: "In the meantime I charge my PHEV for the equivalent of about $0.90/gal " It will of course depend on how much one drives. Then there are other costs too in regards to future replacements of batteries for the car but there are add-ons for non electrical cars too. We will be driving Grandma Duck's car soon.
  2. In addition to the above comments: There are solar panels installed on many homes here Down Under as I guess is the case in the USA too. More and more homes are adding batteries to the panels although that is in it’s early stage. That combination will lower any impact on the grid as the electric cars will draw power from the batteries and or the solar panels. Our grids will in anyway have to be improved on to be able to handle the input from a more localized energy production with sources such as solar panels.
  3. If one brake line is broken wouldn’t it make sense to change it all? A complete stainless set for a ‘66 is $179 + shipping. That is a cheap life insurance that I bought and installed in my ‘63.
  4. No, you need this if it is a ‘66 that you have: http://www.oldbuickparts.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_375_376&products_id=6397
  5. Here is my story when I got 3 point seatbelts installed in the rear in case you like to improve further:
  6. Ahh, those wire wheels with that stunning red color! It reminds me about Pretty Woman in some strange way.
  7. The external remote mirror for -63 was an option to be ordered either from the factory or the dealer. This mirror was normally installed on the driver side but it could actually also be installed on the passenger side. Your best chance to get an original mirror would be to buy it from one of the used part sellers that you can find in the Riviera Owners Association magazine see www.rivowners.org for membership (well worth the money). Alternative you might find someone coming back to you here or in one of the Facebook groups such as https://www.facebook.com/rivieraassoc/ or https://www.facebook.com/groups/BuickRivieraOwners/.
  8. Is this what you are looking for: https://forums.aaca.org/topic/158968-troubleshooting-hard-starting-on-a-64/
  9. Here is a link to a discussion about installing pertronix including in a 64. someone even called pertronix and was assured that it could work directly from a lower voltage but only down to 7.5 V.
  10. There are differences between AC and none AC cars as can be seen in the following extracts from the owners manual.
  11. It seems that you are looking for a mirror for a 1970 Riviera based on another question that you posted elsewhere A quick google got the following hits although I don’t know what is correct for that year: https://www.ebay.com/itm/353041499028?hash=item5232e9c394%3Ag%3AskoAAOSwiV5gWKPk&fits=Year%3A1970|Model%3ARiviera|Make%3ABuick In-line tube seems to have a much cheaper alternative, maybe that is good enough depending on what you are looking for.
  12. Hi Bill, Shoulder surgery doesn't sound great. Let's hope for a quick recovery. I am sorry but your futuristic looking driver's seat did hit a memory: I run into something similar in the early 70's before I got the Riviera I had in Sweden. I worked for a few years in the steel industry in Sandviken, Sweden and once gota ride with a college in his SAAB 92. He had a Chow Chow that he had left in the car whilst running an errand. Everything chewable in the driver seat was gone when he came back and as he didn't have that much money he was stuck driving on a small wooden stool for a while... The passenger seat had also issues so I sat in the rear seat pondering the small adventure that I had run into. Life was a little bit simpler in that time. Let's hope you can get someone to help you get the "internals" installed soon again. A '63 Riviera is so fine tuned that driving it with one arm for a while shouldn't be an issue. Enjoy the coming summer. BTW silver looks fantastic, that together with red and the black that I have internally in mine are the top 3 alternatives for me.
  13. Today, May 12, it arrived in Melbourne, Australia.
  14. ROA as mentioned above is really your best friend. Here are a few sites for consumables and manuals: http://www.oldbuickparts.com https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/buick,1968,riviera,7.0l+430cid+v8,1021420
  15. Melbourne Australia today, March 15th.
  16. Hi Tom, I have never heard about a central locking option for a '63. The one I have is an add on. I suspect that it is the custom interior that is installed in mine that they are hinting at in the ad.
  17. Hi John, I don't know about Canada but the '63 Riviera that I had in Sweden between '76 and '82 was sold new in Sweden. I seem to recall that they were assembled in Europe (the Netherlands?) and had a lower compression 401 than the one sold in the USA. So yes, they were sold new outside of the USA. The '63 that I have now in Australia was sold originally in Portland but that is another story.
  18. Carl, here is the service manual if that helps you to explain your point https://www.buick-riviera.com/servicemanual.html
  19. Ed, There seems to exist a lot of approximations out there such as this that talks about a 15% loss: https://autoexpert.com.au/posts/the-truth-about-carmaker-engine-power-claims
  20. Ed, if you look through your post you will see that the link you posted goes to a local copy of the file on your PC thus not usable. I guess this is the one you are trying to paste: https://mrgusa.com/pdfs/5-8rubgrmt
