In addition to the above comments: There are solar panels installed on many homes here Down Under as I guess is the case in the USA too. More and more homes are adding batteries to the panels although that is in it’s early stage. That combination will lower any impact on the grid as the electric cars will draw power from the batteries and or the solar panels. Our grids will in anyway have to be improved on to be able to handle the input from a more localized energy production with sources such as solar panels.

The external remote mirror for -63 was an option to be ordered either from the factory or the dealer. This mirror was normally installed on the driver side but it could actually also be installed on the passenger side. Your best chance to get an original mirror would be to buy it from one of the used part sellers that you can find in the Riviera Owners Association magazine see www.rivowners.org for membership (well worth the money). Here is a link to a discussion about installing pertronix including in a 64. someone even called pertronix and was assured that it could work directly from a lower voltage but only down to 7.5 V.

Hi Bill, Shoulder surgery doesn't sound great. Let's hope for a quick recovery. I am sorry but your futuristic looking driver's seat did hit a memory: I run into something similar in the early 70's before I got the Riviera I had in Sweden. I worked for a few years in the steel industry in Sandviken, Sweden and once gota ride with a college in his SAAB 92. He had a Chow Chow that he had left in the car whilst running an errand. Everything chewable in the driver seat was gone when he came back and as he didn't have that much money he was stuck driving on a small wooden stool for a while... The passenger seat had also issues so I sat in the rear seat pondering the small adventure that I had run into. Life was a little bit simpler in that time. Let's hope you can get someone to help you get the "internals" installed soon again. A '63 Riviera is so fine tuned that driving it with one arm for a while shouldn't be an issue. Enjoy the coming summer. BTW silver looks fantastic, that together with red and the black that I have internally in mine are the top 3 alternatives for me.

Hi Tom, I have never heard about a central locking option for a '63. The one I have is an add on. I suspect that it is the custom interior that is installed in mine that they are hinting at in the ad.

Hi John, I don't know about Canada but the '63 Riviera that I had in Sweden between '76 and '82 was sold new in Sweden. I seem to recall that they were assembled in Europe (the Netherlands?) and had a lower compression 401 than the one sold in the USA. So yes, they were sold new outside of the USA. The '63 that I have now in Australia was sold originally in Portland but that is another story.
