  1. in the later 50's, a belt loop on a brown leather slip stick holder was a sign of future engineer..............
  2. got it recorded............, a little later time in Michigan Go BLUE on now!!!!!!!! 13 to 3
  3. Air horn may have code 10-XXX cast on it
  4. Well, not 28, but body style similar to 1930 Hudson except for: Door hinges exposed Door window glass, severely tapered, Hudson's were rectangular. Rear window not Oval Highly raised bead shape around window reveals. No raised bead on splash apron ( between body and running board.) Different spring attachment to LR frame. ///////////////////// Similarities to Hudson: Raised triangular shaped character line separating upper and lower body. 1930 only Door handle mounted in center of character line 29 and 30 Brown taillight lens used by Hudson in 28 and 29 not 30 or 31 Headlight bucket appears shaped like 30 Hudson But not a Hudson that I can see. Would like to know what it is too.
  5. Have him look at rear spring support castings. for stamped serial number. Post it here, this will help ID year.
  6. 1927 Essex made by Hudson. Essex chassis, look at right rear spring "dumb iron". Serial number should be stamped there. The gas tank cover looks 26 but rear fenders seem curved with no character lines, perhaps 1927 and later. Front spring dumb iron is 1927 or earlier. Spare tire cups last used in 1927
  7. I have a chart comparing plugs, no car models. Includes EDISON If you have a plug, perhaps I can tell you it's comparable for AC , Champion? This may be helpful by using another chart to check uses.
  8. My Hudson Essex cars all had raised metal around studs at top of block. Counter sink holes in the head for studs. I use a 45 deg. 45 deg angle counter sink. The likely hood of gasket pinching thus allowing clearance for exhaust gas or coolant to migrate. Are you sure of the temp measuring device ? Best wishes
  9. My maternal Grand father, in the US Army, in the Philippine-American War 1899. I was there in the US Navy, 60 years later. That was 64 years ago..................... We must remember that many gave all...................
  10. My Hollander Manual shows 1936 Olds 6 and 8 rear ends as interchangeable. No Buick cross info. No info on front drums in book this is a early 1937 book and info ends with 1936. Showes no other GM, or other interchange for rear end. Best wishes.
  11. I specked 8 mil plastic under 40 X 64 storage barn. I am sure reduced moisture wicking up thru floor.
  12. Essex for 1928 has a character bead on upper hood panel. the hood hold down brackets have a rubber bumper just below hook point, which this appears to have. How ever Essex has 21 louvers in 1928................... The upper hood brace under hinge is not Essex, likely a later add on.
  13. When removing handle, I use my thumb to press the lock latch inward and the handle square shaft with the of set square near the end, comes out. The locking mechanism is part of the lock cylinder, with in the handle shaft. My 1930 Essex is the same as your Hudson.
  14. white metal top with 8 bolts on top ? or painted metal top with 4 bolts on top? //////////////// 8 bolt top may have long springs connecting float and mounting. 4 bolt top may have a float with a candy cane arm on top that connects to loops under top. The loops control operation - clean them with cleaning spray another style 4 bolt top may have a float with a slot, in which right angle wires under cover slide in to control the operation, clean them too. 4 bolt tops, have a inner tank tube with a flapper valve at the bottom, make sure moveable flapper can seat properly. Watch floats for leaks. Hope this may help
  15. Can you read numbers on distributor tag? Any other numbers on starter or generator?
  16. Thank you to all who participated in Hosting Hershey !!!! 60 years in a row, and plan to keep attending..............
  17. I do not know where this article was used. Optional water pumps for Essex engines had a water pump driven from the flat side of the fan belt. This appears to be a similar drive.
  18. 1929 Essex on had the two part oil pan assemblies. Separate troughs and oil pan. 1928 and earlier Essex's had oil troughs soldered to the oil pan. Starting with the 1930 Hudson engines, they were two cylinders longer than the Essex. Apparently, all moving parts were same as Essex, by model year, thru 1932. ( minus crankshaft, and other unique 8 cyl parts ) The last year for Essex - 1932.
  19. 2023 will be 60 continuous years, even Covid did not stop me from being there. The Hershey environment is therapeutic. .
  20. 1928 Essex a 1929 is same shape but has pine needles and cones engraved on face
