Leif in Calif
Looks like Grandpa had a lot of money in it....I hope it can find a new owner once the current one comes to understand it's value. https://modesto.craigslist.org/cto/d/modesto-plymouth/7511000253.html Car drives and runs good. Engine has been rebuilt. Manual transmission with 3 on the tree. 6 cylinder engine. Paint job is real shiny and free of defects. Interior has been redone. Rear suicide doors. This car only needs minor details. This was an inheritance. We have too many cars. Will negotiate. Must see to appreciate a true classic. $23,000 (209) 605-0771

The original square headlights that really set the '39 Plymouth apart have been swapped out for sealed beams too.
plymouthcranbrook
Certainly worth way under $10,000. Grandpa was a dreamer.

alsancle
I typically don’t have a lot of empathy, but ads like this make me feel bad. they’re going to be in for a rude awakening. 4
TAKerry
As long as Grandpa had fun with the car, the rest doesnt matter! But no way Id spend more than about 8k on it.
auburnseeker
The only thing that sets the black one apart from the original one of the thread is a $50,000 + restoration. When done you will have a really nice 25G car.
Sal Hepatica
This is an example of "original is always correct". When you vary from that- in this case candy apple paint and white vinyl interior- and do an, imho, so-so job, you immediately discount the bulk of potential buyers. I'm thinking this will be a tough sell at any price.
Steve_Mack_CT
Sal agree. Toughest sells, imho are those cars that are neither fish nor fowl. Efforts to keep a car stock, whether a full restoration, or a partially done car with needs and anything in between on the stock side are one thing. So are hot rods. Both classes have buyer pools. It is the cars that cannot decide what they want to be that are the worst. Sometimes you see that with Model As, stock drivetrain but weird or modern colors, body colored fenders, interiors with non stock materials, etc. Very few buyers for these cars, especially now with cosmetic work costs rising and the relatively small incremental cost for a correct car vs. a project or a car you have to make cosmetic corrections on for it to be "right". Why pay for a paint job or upholstery you hate? Not a judgment but a market observation. For this, $6,000 on a good day unless someone has been looking specifically for a 39 Plymouth sedan for the past 6 or 8 years. And we all know how many folks fit that buyer profile...
DLynskey
"Must see to appreciate a true classic." Indeed, a "true classic" needs to be seen (and driven) to really appreciate it --- and this ain't one!! Don
Den41Buick
Why would anyone list a car and not wash it first? …..unless there must be a restriction on water useage.

I think the mindset (you know, the "barn find") of sellers nowadays is that the more dust and dirt the more appeal AND $$$$
