56Roadmaster
Dave like some others have said welding will be ok. You may already know this, but to put some numbers on on preheat and interpass: preheat to 800-1000F and keep the temp steady while welding and when done cool at 100F/hr max.

Is the shop that broke it going to pay for the new one? Restoration costs enough without adding extra for another's mistakes!
edinmass
It's interesting....many people are ready to JB Weld it.......an asinine repair. Fixing it with heat could work....but not a good idea. Ultimately the customer who owns the car didn't have a broken cover when he brought it in........thus the ONLY correct repair is to replace the cover......which Dave did. Too many people take the easy way out and it's always half assed. I work on lots of stuff.....accidents do happen. In my shop, we don't have idiots working on antique cars.......thats why things are so expensive to repair.......tractor mechanics get tractor rates for a reason..........shit like this happens. It's why professional repairmen are worth twice what you pay them.......for the stuff that doesn't happen. It's pretty good for a number of applications, mainly filling and sealing. For gluing structural bits together not so much........Bob

JV Puleo
I do admit to using it as a filler when making aluminum patterns because it's stiffer than bondo but so far, that's the only application I've found.

You and I are on the same page. 🙂 Things always seem have a way of working out if one has is patient. Fast and dirty ramming, jamming, and hammering usually makes the job harder unless your a rodeo bull rider. But then you take a lot of lumps. Dandy Dave!
