Riviera63
Scrolling through the TV Guide today and saw that the Motor Trend Channel (formerly Velocity Channel) program Wrench'd is customizing or butchering (depending on your point of view) a 1963 Riviera tonight at 8:00 CST with a repeat at 11:00 CST. telriv
It might come out nice, but I think it will be an abortion. ALL the pristine rust free non rotted sheet metal they'll be throwing away . It's too bad some could use some. Take a running driving car & put in an LS3????? WHY?????
RivNut
Why???? Because everyone else does it. Heaven forbid you do anything that's not what everyone else does.
dr914
Why can they just take a car that needs a total restoration to do this butcher job? More work, but at least they are saving another Riviera, rather than sacrificing one.
psychostang
They are not saving a Riviera, there was nothing wrong with this one. This is simply what the owner wanted to do. They are chopping it 1.5" and shortening it. Also, they are building a replacement frame and cutting out the floors so they can move the frame up into the body. steelman
These guys must really like to weld. They shortened the car 1 1/16" and through the Dutchman panel under the rear glass. So they replaced the frame and will add larger wheel tubs for larger rear tires. So when they cut the back of the car off and set it aside would have been a perfect time to have better access to replace the tubs. But no, they welded the back of the car back on. He said he did this just to make people scratch their heads. Same with the subtle 1 1/2" chop. Neither will be that noticeable unless parked next to a stock Riviera. And when, other than the ROA meets, do you see more than one Riviera at a show? A large show, such as Good Guys might have 3. Out of 2000 cars on the grounds. And these 3 will be acres apart unless the owners happen to be buddies. Way too much work for the result. I want to see how it comes out, but I am not sure any of this work will be that noticeable. Good point for those who are restoring their cars and worried about getting a perfect match for carpets, engine color, etc. If there's nothing to compare it to, who's to say it wrong. Turbinator
The automobile is a person’s chariot. In my not so humble opinion a person can outfit their chariot to their own liking. My only caveat is their “ chariot” not physically harm others. That is the way I roll.
Garysriv
Just watched it. Came out okay. I didnt get the '59 Tbird dash. One if the best things about early rivs is the dash IMO.
65VerdeGS
Good shot Bernie! Now that's a CAR!! Gotta love that late '30's Cadillac grille! Reminiscent of the front pods on our early Rivieras, no? After all, the '63 design was originally dubbed "LaSalle II", for Cadillac's by then defunct sister marque. Lucky for us Buick picked up the design IMO.
