dei
On Friday evening after cleaning up the tires went to fill up the Special for a 65 mile trip to Chatham, Ontario for an all day car show. Ironically the total was 58 bucks for a 58 Buick. Up early Saturday and got a good spot at an intersection to show her off. Both my wife and I fielded questions about how long I had it and is it original etc... A big show with some 800 plus cars of all grades and makes spread over 7 or 8 blocks made for a lot of walking in this quaint old City. The group we went with had to fill up for the trip home so decided I'd top up too. My trip odometer now reads: 847.9 miles
JohnD1956
Fueled up before heading out to tonights Hemmings Cruise in. Taking my 10% adjustment II'llcall it 210 miles. That puts me at roughly 580 so far this year. The odometer pic came out blurry so will try again on the next fill up.
Thriller
Well, I have no idea how accurate the odometer is, nor the speedo for that matter, although they both move now. I have no illusions about getting a second car over 2000 miles this year, but this is the one at hand (and perhaps will be trading the Skyhawk for another this weekend). It’s probably got 60-80 unrecorded miles on for the year. I love the way this car sounds, although not necessarily how it smells. Based on the rust that this car had, it must have wrapped around...either that or had a hard life or sat outside, but the original seat covers would suggest that isn’t the case.
JohnD1956
Fueled up tonite and recorded an additional 165 miles. Forgot to take a picture but this brings me to 745 miles so far. Looks like I need to abandon the other two if I am going to accomplish this goal. NAH!!! 1
dei
Drove the Special on the North Shore Wine Tour Route (Lake Erie) on Sunday stopping at View Pointe Winery. Sampled their white and had a snack before purchasing two bottles for latter. Covered most of the south western part of Ontario before heading back for supper in the town of Kingsville. Not a great shot but the trip odometer reads 993.8 miles.

dei
Headed out after the weekly cruise-in for ice cream again. Stopped for a picture by the Detroit River looking south west to the US. At one time the Michigan Central RR barged train cars through the passage you see between the trees. With a steady 7 mile per hour current it must have been a challenge at times with river traffic and ice in the winter. The tracks and docks are all gone and the right of way is part of a trail hiking/biking system. I didn't note the mileage but will when I go out next as the gauge reads below half now. JohnD1956
Another 110, for around 855 so far. Getting there slowly...but still sticking with it. This week's Hemming's Cruise In is tonite, to coincide with National Classic Car Day. That will get me most of the way to 50% of the challenge. Hows that for spin doctoring? Eh? Lol
dei
I haven't been posting what my odometer has been reading each of the small trips as of late but after today's car show close by and an evening ride downtown along the waterfront it now reads... I'll have to check but believe I'm up to 1,100 miles (or so). Getting there is half the fun! Keeping up with the pack going with friends makes it even sweeter. JohnD1956
added another 171 to my accumulated miles for 1,026 miles. Minus the 10% correction that makes it 1,009 to date. dei
Went out Wednesday for a weekly gathering on the east end of the City then cruised the river to downtown before ending the night. (I just noticed a little cleaning on that dash pad is needed...)

dmfconsult
Not much progress for me in this but took a step to rectifying it today. Drove the Electra to the tranny shop for a rebuild I’ve been putting off for 5-6 years. Not bad company there with a 74ish BMW 2002ti in the next bay. I’ll get it back next week so hopefully make some advancement on this goal after that! Looks and sounds good John. that 2019 make is right around the next corner! I've really enjoyed this year having the ability to hit the starter and go out with confidence with the Special. I know it surprises a few that are getting to know my car that it performs this well. Happy travels too all.

Ben Bruce aka First Born
Been doing a little manifold/exhaust work on George last couple weeks. He and I decided a few miles added to the challenge would be GOOD. Drove north out of town and turned left somewhere. Out north of Electra, turned left again . The left one more time to get back to the Falls. Ended up with 58 miles added. Total for year is 2176. I believe we will make it. Took pictures. Alas, not good. wmsue
I think everyone is ahead of me. I just recorded 329 total miles so far. It had been over a month that I was able to get out and drive the Electra. Between the heat, rain and life in general, there just wasn't time. I did get a chance to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary with a group of 21 friends and family in Ireland a few weeks ago. Totally priceless. Today I went to an AACA (Western Reserve Chapter) meet at DeBonne Winery in Madison, Ohio. About a 45 minute ride from my house. Almost 200 cars braved the cloudy skies and dodged a few rain drops to get there. I think everyone had a great time. Debonne is very generous to our chapter by providing trophies and a huge tent for us to hold our local meeting after the show. Here's a few photos. thanks
Ben Bruce aka First Born
We are pikers! Over on the H.A.M.B. is a fellow called squirrel. Jim Forbes is his name. There is an organization called Lemons Rally, or something like that. Requires a $500.00 car. Tires and safety item may be added. Some months ago, in preparation for the Monterey event, Jim bought a '51 Hudson. Made it run. Made it stop. Drove 900 miles from his home in Sierra Vista, AZ, to Monterey, CA. Via Vegas and over the mountains. Completed the Rally, all four days as NO 1. Above 1200 miles I believe. One day included 12 mountain passes And will drive it home, another 900! 3000 miles, or thereabouts, in a week. With a $500.00 Car! Makes me ashamed of myself. And proud of him. CONGRATULATIONS, Jim. JohnD1956
Fueled up tonight but forgot to get a picture. Still, adding 120 miles to my total, landing me at 1,219 miles so far. Been driving the other cars more frequently the last few weeks, but was happy to get back in this one, fire it up, and just go, without much ado. Seems to run much better with the new steering wheel ..😏
dei
Took a road trip to drop off a seat back for repair for my Roadmaster rag top and have lunch at a place I have not been to in years. Erieau has developed into quite a lake side resort community and will have to do it again soon. When I go back for the repaired seat back I will for sure be having the craft beer served today. With a good lunch it was time to head back. Perfect top down weather and light traffic made for a great day all round. Of course spending an hour inside the restoration shop seeing works in progress helps too. Getting ready to roll the trip odometer over for the second time this year. The 2019 challenge is within reach.
dei
Labour Day Weekend was full of Car Events and Monday was very close to home so naturally had to attend. We set up early as it was going to 85 and sunny out. Great day and ended at the awards presentation with my name being called!! Then we all went over to the evening Cruise-In where I had to put the top back up! We all went on inside to wait it out and enjoyed recapping the day over a glass. Great Weekend! cxgvd
Bev and I drove our 1913 Buick 792 miles this summer, counting official tours and not test drives, ice-cream runs, getting lost or just for fun. Also does not include the miles in the truck and trailer getting to events in Michigan and Ontario. The Buick ran well, without incident, and got us home every time. Our last thing was the Old Car Festival at the Henry Ford. I was so taken with the roadsters racing around the park that I turned our car into a sport touring by folding the top and windshield down. cxgvd
Gee, I like the photo of Joyce and I remember the situation. I always hear a person can not drive this type of car because of young people texting or trying to ruin our day by crashing into us but as you can see in the photo there is no one in sight. I felt perfectly safe parking in the middle of the driving lane. We had a lovely summer, a weekend at the Gilmore Museum, Retrofest in Chatham, On., an AACA/HCCA tour in Kingston. Back to the Bricks and the Old Car Festival. Thanks for the memories, Gary
JohnD1956
Plus 103 making 1,327 but with the odometer error correction I' ll say it is 1,300 so far. Of course if I added the other two cars I'd be way over the goal but I am still trying to do it with this one car for this year. We will see. It is running fantastic!
