I am going to try again, this time asking that everybody follow the conditions below.First off I had hoped everyone would give cool FUN fantasy locations and just spout out reason why they thought their location would make a cool National Meet. FUN is the key word. OK Conditions.1. Imagine the BCA National meet costs no money to attend, it costs you nothing to get there, stay there, for your meals, NO MONEY.2. It is ideal PERFECT weather and time of year is not an issue... it is whenever you want it to be. 3. Pretend I am not a BOD and that I am just a BCA Member trying to get a cool thread going (cause I AM!!) OK other conditionsA. No Negative post about other peoples cool locations. They have their opinion you have yours, so be it. Just post your cool location.B. No negative posts about the BCA, the Cost of the Meets, how meets are run, whatever. I want this to be a FUN thread. If you want provide constructive criticism, fair enough, but please GO OVER TO THE OTHER THREAD we will use that for constructive criticism as there is a place for that. The Old Guy Posted December 22, 2009 Share Posted December 22, 2009 I did rte 66 with the Hot Rod power tour in 2001, and it was GREAT !! It would be very difficult to orchestrate, but I think the people that ran it would have the time of their lives. There are numerous books that will give you the info necessary to run most of the original road. Evenings would need to be spent in areas away from the original road, but not far away enough to be a problem. it would require more than 3 days, but I am retired, and can spend however much time it takes. I just whoever is planning the National would coordinate with the guy at Marine Corps headquarters who is issuing me my orders. The upcoming Nationals in Ames would be perfect for me as I will be travelling through Minnesota and Wisconsin as I move to Georgia this summer...unfortunately it starts the day I am supposed to report in to my new duty station in Georgia. OK...let me check...um...some places we could rule out as there are no roads going there. Charlottetown PEI is another place I've never been that has some tourist appeal. There's a few car places around here in Winnipeg...it is hardly a destination in and of itself, but there are a few neat museums, a few automotive / transportation locations that would be worthwhile seeing, other interesting sites / activities...channel catfish capital of the world is just north of the city. It's about a 3 hour drive, but there is an automotive museum in western Manitoba that has a significant collection of early McLaughlins and McLaughlin Buicks. I'd have to think about a location for a show field / hotel though. There's riverboat tours, including a supper cruise on the Paddlewheel Queen. Working with the numbers could be a challenge, but something could be made to work. If someone is genuinely interested, I did a bit of a tour for Labour Day weekend 2009...we had fun, but few attendees from south of the border. I could easily put a small tour together again as there are many ideas. For more information on Winnipeg, see DiscoverWinnipeg.ca - Winnipeg Travel, Manitoba, Tourism, Hotels, Hotel Reservations, CanadaThere's many other locations...for natural beauty there's Waterton Lakes National Park (on the Montana border) - we honeymooned there or Jasper National Park. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is a nice city with a lot of attractions.Getting into Quebec or Ontario could be better spoken to by others on the forum, but Kingston is a nice spot, with Old Fort Henry (also near the Thousand Islands area). Oshawa has a great Buick / GM history component and the McLaughlin Buick Club of Canada has done numerous tours in the area.Canada is a big place, but a huge proportion of the population is within a short distance of the US border, so it isn't venturing that far.The more I think about it, any place can be fun, at least for me and my family. Every place of any size has some interesting shops / museums / history / activities. Some things that other folks may be interested in don't interest me much (casinos as an example) and vice versa. If we area ever in the same boat as we were this year with no chapter to host I would be willing to help host a National in Rapid City. I am at the other end of the state but 90 is 75 MPH and it doesn't take long to drive out there. I have thought many times about starting a chapter here in the Sioux Falls area but working weekends and holiday and driving during the week doesnt give me much time. There is certainly a lot to see and do in the area, including a car museum in Murdo, not far away (unfortunately we didn't have time to stop there in either direction). NTX5467 Posted January 2, 2010 Share Posted January 2, 2010 50jetback, that Corvette Todd and Buzz were in did have tendencies to break down in certain areas of Route 66 (adding to the story line as they had to wait for parts to arrive from "back east"), so they might enjoy the smooooth comfort and reliability of a Grand Buick. Probably about the same number of fuel stops (probably leading to some other story lines of damsels "with issues", but with the interior space of a Buick, they could rescue such damsels right then and there rather than get involved in fixing things locally, maybe even rearrange their luggage to covertly sneak them to safety in the capacious trunk). They could still roll the windows down as they had to in the Corvette, but we know Buicks had much better interior ventilation than Corvettes did back then. Crowne Plaza in Springfield, IL is the host hotel ($92.00/night room rate).
