  1. Ed, a heartfelt thankyou for keeping me up every night for the past three months. It has been a fantastic story that I have re read several times. Stay safe and away from hurricanes. I trust that you have a safe shelter should one hit.
  2. If my memory is correct at one time Dee owned one of the four prototype Duesenberg V-16 aircraft motors developed around 1916-1918. Dee was an important innovator in the business jet industry and invented and developed the thrust reverser used to slow down jet aircraft during landing. Early business jets used drag chutes for emergency landings. Bill Lear was one of his earliest employees and the original mock up of the Lear Jet was produced by Dee Howard. He also had an extensive car collection in San Antonio. So much for trivia!!
  3. The "Minimum Cost" is usually 30% more than we can afford for the ideal car of our dreams. Like Matt I would love to have a Duesenberg and could probably afford a closed one if I sold everything including my advertising and art glass collection, ain't going to happen.
  4. Great Video's and worth the wait. How common were OD transmissions in Pre War cars. My 12 Garford has a similar transmission and I know some Winton's had them. Were they all made by the same company?
  5. What are we going to do in our spare time IF this ever ends. When I wake up in the am I grab my phone and check for updates. My wife thinks I have a mistress.
  6. Photos 1,4,5,and 7 were electric vehicles. The only gasoline vehicle is #6. You will notice that # 5 is discribed as an electric cart on steel tracks. Was that common in larger cities at the turn of the century?
  7. This is from a 1899 magazine titled “The Spread of the Automobile”
  8. If this is a tour car I wouldn't worry about the heads much. I have been touring with my 41 for years and have never been asked to look under the hood. If it will fit your 37 you may wish to use a rear end from a 41 automatic. Runs much nicer at highway speeds. I may have a extra V-16 fan lying around. If you are interested I will check.
  9. A friend out east owns a shop that drops LS3's in Land Rovers beginning at $50K. He has a 18 Month waiting list.
  10. Interesting observation that I had never considered. thanks
  11. Simply ask yourself "what is the worst that could happen?"
  12. Certainly better than watching the political crap dominating TV today. Thanks Marty
  13. Thanks Bernie. I would like to blame it on "auto correct" but in this case it is "bob incorrect"
  14. I have probably towed over 250K miles and never owned a new trailer. Just be patient and take your time. Have your requirements ahead of time and don't compromise. You can't believe how shoddy some trailer construction is. I once looked at a trailer where the tie down brackets were attached to the 1/2 inch plywood floor with wood screws. I for one don't believe the premium for aluminum is worth it unless you tow vehicle is light duty or you plan on towing frequently. On a 24 ft enclosed trailer I doubt you are reducing the weight by 800# or less. Your diesel tow vehicle with 800 to 1000 pounds of torque doesn't know the difference. If you buy used plan on rebuilding the brakes, packing the bearings and new tires. As an example I paid $9000.00 for my 48 ft gooseneck tri axle in 2009. It was built in 2005. Also plan on installing a wench and get the 10-12K model. Remember that a wench only pulls it's stated load on the first row of winding. My TCW, others will have different experiences. Sorry, I thought you were looking to buy, not sell
  15. I have probably put over 500K on timing belt interference engines without a mishap. I did trash a 81 MB 380 motor with the single timing chain though.
  16. Peter, I thought all 25 year old cars were recognized?? Yesterday I purchased a SC 300 with 38K miles. Owned by a sports car racer (Toyota Supra) who put 10 K miles on it in the past 10 years and recently changed the timing belt. Pearle White with Auto. I was hoping for a 5 speed but the wife vetoed it since she wants to drive it in nice weather. Thanks for the offer to help.
  17. I was mentioning this to my morning coffee group today. A friend remarked that his Lincoln in going off lease in a couple of months and and he is getting private offers to take over the lease so the new leesor can purchase it at termination. Apparently the buy out price is predetermined and much lower than current value.
  18. I agree on Harrah's research. They sent a copy of their restoration manual on the 12 Garford with restoration photos and progress notes along with over 100 pages of research, ads and articles for $0.30/page plus a $5 printer fee 45
  19. I was just researching prices on 1st generation Lexus SC 300/400 autos (1991-2000) on Bat. The average price on confirmed sales is up $2000 in the last nine months. They are great road cars and AACA tour eligible 1996 and older.
  20. One of the reasons this car is attractive to me is that it will be eligible for many AACA and VMCCA tours in a year. At age 80 I am tired of towing to all the tours. Those of us who do not live hear PA have to drive two of three days to many events
  21. The one I am looking at has 38K and is like new
  22. Interesting discussion. When you cannot support a CCCA club in a city of 4 million filled with classic cars (Houston) I think the handwriting is on the wall. When I lived in the panhandle I belonged to the Florida North region (can't remember their name) and it was the most aloof club I have ever belonged to. I haven't been a member since I moved to Texas 12 years ago and not being a member makes me very happy. There in lies the problem with declining membership but that is just my perspective. BTW one of my cars scored 100 points over 20 years after it's restoration.
  23. My 12 year old triplet grandsons much prefer to occupy one of the race cars or the rumble seat of the 34 Pontiac. It is hard to believe that in 4 years I will be buying cars for them.
  24. I would also like to thank you for posting the link. I have also seen that car sometime in the past and have non digitized photos of it somewhere. Wouldn’t it have been great to have digital photography invented 30 years earlier.
