  1. Congrats on your 2 new buicks! I use Dexron in my '59. We talk a little '58 and a little '60, plus all other years of Buicks on our site at www.Buick-59.com :: Home
  2. Okay, I'm looking for opinions on Collector Car Insurance. Features I'm looking for (in no particular order) -Affordability -No hassle claims -Agreed Value Coverage -liberal driving priviledges. (i like to DRIVE my cars!) -ease of application (does anyone actually Quote and write on-line?) -willingness to insure a driver with some minor points/tickets. Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated as the choices seem overwhelming! BTW, my cars are all driver quality, no trailer queens, no high values, etc.
  3. Stick a Red Top in it....if you don't like the color, paint it black!

    How come?

And even when they do try to add "chrome", it's usually cheap plastic tape designed to look like chrome. Surely there is better technology to create a more realistic "chrome" look while maintaining quality at an affordable price? Okay....someone wake me up from my dream now.....
  5. I would love to see an electronic version in addition to the hard copy. Security is the key point though...
  6. Commonly called the ironing board. You should be able to find pics in the '64 or '65 dealer literature. I'll trade you my first born for that car!
  7. I agree.....do what it takes to keep the Buick in the family.....you'll always reqret letting it go. If that means a few more shifts at McDonald's, then I guarantee it will be worth it!
  8. Ditto for Buick. My wildcat came with a few receipts, which allowed me to track every owner back to the original. I googled his name, found an obituary, googled the son's name and came up with a phone number. Ended up having a nice 1 hour conversation with the guy who was about 10 years old when his parents bougtht the car. Unfortunately, I was about 6 months too late or I would have ended up with some great stuff like the check the car was paid for with, etc.....
  9. Thanks MrEarl....You will be sorely missed. It was great spending time with you in Seattle.
  10. I went through 3 1990s models of Chrysler/Dodge minivans....overall reliability was fine, with the exception of the occasion water pump or similar, but every time I took them in for an oil change or tires, brakes were gone, motor mount was broken, tie rod needed replaced, cv boots were torn, etc, etc, etc. I'm happy with my Korean (Kia) Minivan....not an ounce of trouble in 60,000 miles so far. Also love my Hyundai Sonata....haven't had a single problem with that either at 50,000 miles...brakes lasted longer on both than on any previous american car I've owned. Until Buick makes a $20,000 car that I'm willing to buy (Love the Lucerne), I'm sticking with Korea. Lately though, I've been putting more trouble free miles on my '69 Electra than anything else in my stable!
  11. Maybe he's got a powder coated clutch plate too?
  12. Thanks Peter! Can't wait to see the new forum!
  13. easiest way to tell 364 from a 401 is to measure the distance between the intake bolts. On a 364, they are 8 3/4" apart On a 401, they are 9" apart. try www.buicks.net year info page for matching up the casting numbers. www.thecarburetorshop.com is a great source for finding out which original carb numbers are correct. To get the foot start to work, you have to have the correct carb that has the starter switch mounted on the carb. Lots of similarities....feel free to join us at http://www.buick-59.com/mxbba/ as well. We let a few '60 buick guys hang around....
  14. worn paint is a plus in my opinion! Rather have it worn and showing trouble spots than a fresh resale red paint job! Price is defintely on the high side for the condition....
  15. I was thinking the same thing.... I'm sure Ted needs another parts car...or at least another project wildcat!

  17. I will be leaving from Cincinnati Sunday morning around 10-11am or so. I am meeting with another car from north central Ohio. We are probably going to try to meet just north or south of Indianapolis with the goal of making just past St. Louis on Sunday. We would love to meet up with a group leaving St. Louis on Monday morning as well??? Brian Clark 59buick@gmail.com

Bring the Wildcat to Iowa next year, so that you and Ted can park the big 'cats together. This year, do some quick detailing on the newly-acquired '59 Buick, and bring it to Colorado Springs. You'll gain lots of instant friends! (Just joking, Derek . . . sort of) </div></div> I'm with Brian on this one! I can bring my cat next year too! (was thinking of bringing the Electra since it's got AC, but.....)
  20. Cash for Clunkers was attached to a war appropriations bill and passed the House. Hopefully, the Senate will strip it from the bill. http://www.detnews.com/article/20090616/AUTO01/906160437/0/rss/House+passes++cash+for+clunkers++bill++Senate+fate+uncertain
  21. Boy Adam, You sure do have the touch. I'm amazed you're doing all that welding work with flux-core. I just bought myself a lincoln 120 welder that is currently set up for flux-core, but can use gas as well. I haven't had a chance to use it much, but hopefully I'll get the hang of it. I'm amazed at how well your parts look after you've cleaned and painted them. What kind of media do you use for blasting? Any other tricks you can provide to us amateurs to achieve those concourse results that you do? Keep up the hard work and keep us all posted with your progress. You are certainly an inspiration to us all! 6 hours to clean and paint those 3 parts......I've spent that long removing a bolt.

Check it out! </div></div> Solstice, Sky, Opel GT......I'm good with any of them wearing the Buick Badge. Also excited about a hybrid Buick. The clay model looks like a cross between the Lacrosse and the Enclave. Korea makes some of the best sub $20,000 cars out there. (I've got a 2005 Hyundai Sonata and a 2003 Kia Sedona and never had a problem with either one) Maybe GM could license a small car from them. I realize that Buick is trying to stay upscale....but if they want enough volume to be competitive and stay in business, they need to expand and produce a entry level car. Surely they've got something in their Chinese arsenal that could be adapted to meet US regulations (which is why our cars are so expensive in the first place!)
  23. I have what I believe to be a set of 13" corvair hubcaps. (They came on a Triumph Spitfire I used to own) They are in very good to excellent condition. Please see my listing on Ebay Asking $120 OBO Located in Cincinnati,Ohio http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360151153941&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT If interested, please contact me through email at 59buick(@)gmail.com.
  24. That sucks Ted! Keep those elephant parts out of the flour or the FDA will be all over you! Derek.....I don't have a WOT shirt, but I'll be happy to be your drinking buddy!
