  1. Looking for a room at the host hotel. Let me know if your plans change. Thanks
  2. So.....whatever happened to these Buicks?
  3. There is only one. There was a dispute over who might be the director. Jack Gerstkemper presented a petition to be appointed to put together a committee to draft by-laws for the Division so that a director could be duly elected. There were apparently no existing provisions and the existing membership "roster" was outdated. So, Jack is the contact for the Division in the Bugle and for people to contact requesting to join or to confirm membership. (confusion as to "new" because there recently hasn't been a listing for Pre-war in the Bugle) Sorry for the confusion. Again, for further clarification, please stand by for the general membership meeting minutes to be transcribed and posted to the BCA website. Thanks to John D for his dedication and thoroughness in this endeavor.
  4. I made such a motion at the BOD meeting to <hire an unaffiliated CPA, specializing in 501(c)7 non-profits, to perform an audit of BCA financials> Note, that is not exact quote. You'll have to wait for the minutes for that.
  5. Lamar, I really don't want to disagree with you, but I don't want to put this all out there under it's own heading either. Since it was brought up, incorrect assumptions made, and a response requested, I have offered to do so with the approval of Alan Oldfield, not of my actual words here, as he has not seen them, but in that I am aware of what occurred.. If you would like to move it, please feel free. I am no longer on the BOD and do not wish to enter into any further discussion publicly about this. As it will likely be a few more days before the official minutes are prepared (long meetings, all notes painstakingly transcribed from voice and video recordings), I will post a short explanation here. All BCA Members will receive in their July Bugle, the response to Terry Wiegand's email to the Chapter Directors. This response was signed by BOD members Alan, myself, John, Rick, Bob, and Ed. This is only the response to the accusations made in that email, some valid as you will see when you read the letter. There are many more details not presented in this response letter, but shown in the minutes of the BOD meetings and emails that are pertinent to the discussion. There are also other details that were not made public because they aren't germane to the operations of the club, but were of a more personal nature. These were the motivating factors to several of the BOD, as to how to proceed, not the actual act of reporting the club to the IRS. At the General Membership meeting Thursday night, a petition for Terry's resignation was presented by Jack Gerstkemper, signed by a majority of the board and several past presidents and board members. I'm sorry, l do not have the exact wording of that petition. Other members also signed, but were not publicly read. Discussion ensued, including 6-8 additional speakers who echoed the same sentiment. When asked for a show of hands, roughly 90+% of the 70-80 members in attendance agreed. When asked for comment, Terry did not offer to resign. After the majority of the Board meeting had been completed, Terry had still not offered to resign. Since I had fielded a number of comments/requests from BCA and BOD members, I presented a motion to begin the expulsion process under our By-Laws. I had reviewed the SOP and By-Laws that morning and didn't find a means to remove Terry from only the BOD. It was not my preference to present the motion or to expel Terry. It did not make me happy to have to do it. I believe those in attendance will confirm that my countenance conveyed that. I had hoped that Terry would resign. However, I felt that it was my responsibility as Vice-President to present the motion and leave it up to a vote after the emotion shown at the membership meeting. Since I am no longer on the BOD, I am not party to any follow up conversations that may have occurred since the BOD meeting. I will say that this motion and action is a last resort. It is my hope, and I believe it to be that of others, that another solution can be found to resolve the issues, but Terry staying on the BOD is not an option, in my opinion. I would hope that my 6 years on the BOD and 2 years as BCA President would have made it clear that my goal is always harmony and inclusion. I fought hard for many issues, but also felt the importance of maintaining positive relationships and reaching compromises. Sometimes this has been to the detriment of my issues. I understand that, but always tried to champion harmony and inclusion. Sometimes I falied, that I admit. However, it was always my goal and it still is. Harmony and inclusion. This is a hobby club and it's supposed to be enjoyable. A lack of professionalism, order, and dignity cannot be tolerated or allowed to persist. There are limits. I believe that is why there is an expulsion process. I would hope that we can come together, fix the problems, heal the wounds, and agree to continue to fight for that goal of harmony and inclusion in this, our Buick Club of America. I would ask, probably naively, that further comments wait until the minutes are prepared, approved, and posted. This may not present the entire story, but the majority of it should be there. I believe that John D also generally posts "minutes" from the general membership meeting, although this is not a requirement. John D is just that thorough. To clarify, I will highlight the wording of my motion that came directly from our By-Laws/SOP. The vote to my recollection was 5-2 in favor. "Following a petition for resignation presented to the BOD at the general membership meeting on 6/21/2018, several impassioned speeches by members present, and a showing of hands by the vast majority in attendance indicating agreement with said petition, there being no provision for removal of a sitting BOD member, I move that the BOD begin expulsion proceedings against Terry Wiegand, member #25247, for Terry's conduct that has disturbed the order, dignity, business or harmony of the BCA, or to have impaired it's good name, goodwill, or prosperity."
  6. The signage was fantastic! Far superior to my signage in Springfield, for sure. The "military precision" comment above was spot on. I know there were issues, there always are, but they were on top of everything. The bright yellow vests worn by all volunteers were fantastic, functional, and flexible. These were borrowed, but the NMC should look into purchasing a set of 20-30 of these for use at every meet. They will all fit in a medium or large flat rate box and were invaluable for guests. More economical than finding a solution every year. Lots of special touches, and I hope someone will post a photo, but the meet logo shining on the floor of the hotel lobby was just a superb detail. Show field was HUGE...too bad there weren't 400 cars to fill it up! I enjoyed the chronological parking and hope the Pre-War Division will continue to assist with this setup. I did hear a single complaint from a member who didn't want to have to move his car again to the showfield. Something about might as well go ahead and put it back in the trailer. Hospitality was fantastic, as usual, thanks to Bruce and Shar. Okay, thanks to Shar Kile! Kim and I enjoyed our stay in Lone Tree very much, especially the small town friendliness of the staff, most notably from the shuttle driver who gave us a pro bono tour of the entire area when all we asked for was a ride to Chipotle. (We didn't eat at Chipotle...too many unique fantastic dining options!)
  7. Booked my flight and sent my registration in today. Guess I'll show up after all. Looks like I'll be solo this year, so I am looking for someone with a room at the Marriott looking for a roommate. I'm arriving Thursday morning. Drop me a PM or email if you are interested in sharing a room. If not, I'll sleep in the bushes, just hopefully not the same bushes Lamar visits.... UPDATE! I have lodging! No bushes for me!
  8. This beautiful Buick has found a good, new home! Plus, it's staying in the USA!
  9. We toured Ron's Machine Shop in Shandon, Ohio last week as part of a joint AACA/BCA outing. They pour their own babbit and specialize in Model As and Ts, but will rebuild anything from that era. If the parts aren't available, they make them. It's quite an operation.
  10. SOLD, sold, sold! Listing this for sale for a friend. Owner passed away earlier this year. Complete stunning restoration finished in 2014. This car is located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Car was driven to South Bend in 2015 and took home a BCA Gold Senior it's first time. Attached is a photo from South Bend and a pdf of other assorted photos. Please PM if interested and I can put you in touch with the representative of the owner/widow. More photos to come, hopefully. Serious inquiries only. $50k asking price, negotiable. 1960 Buick Electra 225 Convertable.pdf
  11. This is correct. If it's eligible to be on the showfield, it is now eligible for the Driven Award. We'll get it all straightened out eventually!
  12. Thanks for the reminder. I blew through one by accident as well. They don't have record of mine....yet. I'll keep checking. I don't have a front plate either??? https://www.getipass.com/searchbyplate#
  13. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I supported this man for President! Well spoken, Mr. Grandpa. My apologies, Roberta, I made your announcement separately right after it happened! However, I did neglect to mention that no one wanted to be Treasurer and work with Bill as CFO. The final straw that broke John and convinced him to be Secretary again was Nancy Book offering to send him homemade cookies monthly! Hold her to it John! Thank you for the kind words Alan and Chuck. I serve at the pleasure of the Membership, and now, the President.
  14. WOW. I was absolutely speechless after viewing this the first time. It brought a tear to my eye reliving the experience. I have sent my personal and BCA official thank you and appreciation to Mr. Bulgari and his team for allowing us to post this on our web page and here for everyone to see. Absolutely fantastic. I don't know how you could condense 3 years preparation and a week long Celebration into 11 minutes, but here it is. Also, apparently it pays to just park your car in a random spot occasionally! (1:18)
  15. I am pleased to announce that the new president of the BCA is................... Alan Oldfield! Congratulations Alan! Brian Clark (me) is the new VP John DiFiore has graciously relented and will serve another term as our esteemed Secretary (and unofficial sergeant at arms). Thanks John!
  16. We gambled today and drove straight through downtown Chicago. Almost caught a hr ball driving by Comiskey. Lol. Only hit about 10 minutes worth of traffic, and didn't lock the brakes up once on the '59, but it was close. There were 4 hours between rumble strip hits, I think that's a record! I thought the Indiana pot holes were bad until we hit Wisconsin. Town is very nice, hotel is nice a well, with a special treat upon check-in, plus homemade peanut brittle. If the parking lot isn't big enough, there's 2000 empty spots next door at Sears. See you road warriors soon!
  17. Thank you John! Approved, you are officially a team. Judges breakfast is at 7 am. We will meet after at 9am, outside the hospitality suite.
  18. Hey, get your own judges and stop stealing mine! Ha ha! Another reason to simplify the driven award....it will hopefully free up a few more people for the formal judging, although it won't be as quick and fun as driven class. (Sticks out tongue)
  19. Thanks Everyone! Still looking for a few more volunteers!
  20. Brookfield will be our swan song in Driven Class Judging, as beginning in Denver, the award will be given out at registration and will be available to everyone who drives their Buick, regardless of it being judged in 400 pt or Archival. I am seeking help in judging our field this year. We have about 50 cars registered. I would like to have about 10 judges. If you are not involved with the 400 pt, archival or Modified judging, please let me know if you will be able to assist us with Driven Class Judging. There is no formal training class required. We will brief you Saturday morning. If you can bring a friend, the more the merrier! Respond here, or email me at 59buick@gmail.com Thanks!
  21. I would love to talk with a postmaster about this. I personally think the ballots should be postpaid to encourage voting. I briefly looked into this, but could not figure out how to proceed. I wonder if we have a member with experience who could assist with this?
  22. I like it. I can definitely attend that way, plus, I'm sure I'll need a drink by that point......
  23. First of all, I would like to thank everyone who offered their time and talent to run for a Board position and encourage everyone to run again next year. Your feedback and leadership is needed and appreciated. I would also like to remind everyone that this is YOUR club....VOTE if you want a say in how it's ran. I have now completed notifying all of those who ran of their results. Congratulations to the three top vote getters who will be seated at the BOD meeting on Friday Morning in Brookfield. I would like to welcome Roberta Vasilow back to the Board of Directors after a long hiatus. Also, Alan Oldfield and Ed DePouli have been releected for another 3 year term. Congratulations (and I'm sorry!) to all 3 of you! Vote tally was as follows: Alan Oldfield 502 Roberta Vasilow 483 Ed DePouli 402 Mark Shaw 389 Larry Schramm 355 Dandy Dave Brennan 269 Sean Ryder 231 Edit: 757 total ballots 919 total voters (including qualified spousal votes) 35 invalid ballots (No vote or more than three votes)
  24. I would personally like to thank everyone who ran and everyone who voted. I certainly hope that those who were not successful this time around try again in the future. I would also like to remind everyone that this is YOUR club....VOTE if you want a say in how it's ran. I have now completed notifying all of those who ran of their results. Congratulations to the three top vote getters who will be seated at the BOD meeting on Friday Morning in Allentown. A total of 901 ballots were cast. This compares to 681 in 2015, 872 ballots in 2014, and 825 in 2013. A large turnout for a large field!
