  1. The car Runs!!!!! I'm so happy! A new set of plugs, 2 00 battery cables and a freshly charged battery and me with a spray bottle of gasoline spritzing it directly into the carb. I managed to keep it running for about a minute at a time by using the spray bottle of gas. It started really slow the first few times, but by the time I had started it 5 or 6 times, it fired right up! i did get a few scary backfires before it settled down to idle. Boy a 1 foot flash of fire in your face will wake you right up! I seem to have a very slight water leak at the water pump area, so I'll have to check that out. I've got a new water pump, but I guess I will have to make a gasket, unless anyone has a source? Next job is to hook the gas line back up, fill up the tank and check to see if the fuel pump works. Once I can get fuel without manually feeding it into the carb, I can get inside and check out the condition of the tranny to see if she'll move under her own power! Wish me luck!!!
  2. Interior looks GREAT Derek! Bet that felt good to install. It will feel even better when you are behind the wheel and all that power! Congratulations!
  3. It's getting warmer Derek, any update on the Wildcat? Would love to see some photos of the finished interior!
  4. Incredible find! I can't believe the cars you guys keep finding! Yet another 4 speed turns up and falls into the right hands. Congratulations!
  5. Magnum, any updates or photos of your project?
  6. How about an update Ted? Surely a few more months in your shop has produced some significant changes????? Will you be at the Sharonville car show or is there a chance I might win something????
  7. Tremendous Find Pete! Please update us on the work you've done and how things are coming along on this RARE '63 Cat. Buick-Check Convertible-Check Wildcat-Check 425-Check 4 speet-Check Mate! This one has all the marbles, hope she gets the full meal deal. Would love to see her looking new again!
  8. Absolutely incredible work Adam! I certainly wish I had have your energy and devotion, not to mention tools. If I could afford your hourly rate, I'd have a car on it's way to you right now! How about a top ten list of tips and tricks?
  9. Derek, Attached is a photo I took of a '65 Wildcat trunk in Ocala Florida that only had 11000 miles on it. It was extremely original. The photo shows only a trunk mat, while my '65 has a replacement mat from the late 70s.(I have the receipt) but also has cardboard side and passenger panels, while this example does not. I do know that the gray houndstooth is not correct, although it is close to earlier Buicks. (like my '59) I'm not sure if SMS carries a closer match to original.
  10. I've had my share of brain farts, luckily still have all my important digits! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> A couple of weekends ago I was working on the wildcat and figured I would try to diagnose a rattle under the car while I was doing the spring tune-up. I yelled for the wife to come get and get into the car. As I was underneath using my Inspector Gadget (Okay, Tim Taylor from Home Improvement!) skills, I yelled for her to start her up and give her some gas. About the time I heard the engine wind up I realized I had the front wheels off the ground, not the rear!!!!! I did use STOP and it worked. Luckily my wife doesn't have a lead foot!
  11. Hell, that's better than my daily driver gets!!!!! I'll have to watch that. How are the gas gauges on these cars? I know on my Buicks that when the gauge reads 1/4, that could mean 1/4 of a tank or 1/4 of a gallon!!!!!!
  12. Thanks! I was warned about the frame rust and it is solid as a rock back there.
  13. I just picked up an all original 1966 Galaxie in excellent condition but am rather new to Fords and was wondering if anyone could provide me with some production information. I was wondering how many of the '66 Galaxie 500 base model 2 doors were produced with the inline 6 cylinder engine? Almost every other one I have seen has had a V-8. I know there were roughly 200,000 made, but haven't been able to find the breakdown. Also would appreciate any leads on the best place to buy repair/replacement parts. Thanks!
  14. Actually, He did! I'm still trying to get a copy of the production photos I was promised though.
  15. A pickle fork? I've picked up a set of shock links for my '40 special and I can't seem to reach the nut above the fender to get the old ones off?
  16. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">It is kind of surprising though, as rusty as that car was, that only one out of 8 front seat bolts broke off due to being frozen in. It's the norm for me though working on this car...something always breaks. </div></div> I know the feeling Derek, Everytime I work on anything underneath my '65 Wildcat I come prepared with my air cutoff saw!!!!! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Air Cleaner looks great. That circle of Mylar is tough to get on just right, but it sure brightens up the engine bay!
  17. I'm away from my reference materials. Can anyone tell me if gas tank straps from a '66 Wildcat will interchange for '65? If not, does anyone know of any other interchanges with other GM models/years? I'm looking for a pair, as mine will certainly be wrothless when I remove them. Thanks!
  18. Thanks for the info, I'll have to inspect this a bit closer. They look identical except for the rocker arm and 1 uses flathead screws to secure teh covers, while the other uses phillips? Is it possible that the cam is in a low position reducing the amount of space I have to fit the rocker arm in? Is it possible to rotate the cam to allow more space?
  19. I need help! I removed my old fuel pump from my '40 Special. I can't get the replacement one on? The pump mechanism on the new one does not have as much travel as the old one and it is flatter, where the older one has a slight angle to it. It appears to be hitting the piece inside the engine that actuates the pump, not allowing me to get the pump up high enough for the bolts to fit. By the way, the engine is still in the car, so my work space is a bit cramped! ANY advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  20. Anyone know of a source for heater cores for 1961 full size (225) I see cores for 1963 all the time, but never '61? Thanks!
  21. i've got a '40 buick special with almost no floors left. I haven't seen any reproduction floors for the buicks available, does anyone know of a source? If not, I've heard that Chevy floorboards will fit with some modification. How much modification? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
  22. Alright Ted, it's been over a month, surely you've come up with another project by now! How's the triple black and the sleeper project coming?
  23. This tank was in the trunk of my '59 buick when I got it. I cannot find any markings on it. any ideas on what it belongs to?
