Buick Straight 8 - helped me with my duar carb set up
Mark Shaw replied to Catfishone's topic in Buick - General
This is a much better response for for someone who didn't include the year and model in their post. Your change in the Technical section is a bit harsh by using all caps in red with a exclamation point. "REQUIRED: Year, make, model, and technical issue in the title!" You already have a reputation with me & many of my forum friends of being too harsh. So, I suggest you slow your roll by substituting a few words like please and thank you. -
30 years ago I used crushed pea gravel, hot water & Drano drain cleaner. I took my 29 Buick tank outside and shook it for about 20 minutes in all directions. Dumped it out, dried it and put Bill Hirsh's tank sealer in it. That Buick is still on the road with no issues. Just 3 years ago I took my 12 Buick Roadster tank to a friend who put water & ceramic abrasives in it and put it on his shaker table overnight. I had to solder a few pin holes before putting Red Kote tank sealer in it. ALCOHOL RESISTANT GAS TANK SEALER GALLON | Aircraft Spruce Damon Industries Red-Kote Gas Tank Liner (damonq.com)

Yes, thanks... Mark

Dave, I called Rand and no luck. He only makes the float bowl covers for Marvel carbs. Any chance you could send photos and dimensions so I can cast my own in aluminum? Thanks, Mark

Got a photo??

I always set them a bit loose for a cold start and re-set them hot after making all other adjustments.. I suggest you split the difference hot/cold for a first start-up situation.

Dave, Excellent photos and descriptions... Great Job! Do you happen to have spare pot metal levers that operate via the hand throttle linkage rod? Mine were broken and I would like to cast some aluminum replacements.

You will eventually need an electric fuel pump to save your battery while cranking to prime the mechanical pump for starting. The electric will also serve to overcome vapor lock on hot days or when driving at higher altitude. Just wire it to run from a separate switch on the ignition circuit for safety.

This is the very first thing to check. If your heat riser liner is perferated, the fight with your Marvel carb will be futile.

Friction drive Metz, Carter, Sears and Britannia
Mark Shaw replied to Les Murray's topic in Technical
I agree. One of our club members had a CarterCar and used special rosin paper on his flywheel. He enjoyed passing other cars on hills because he never had to shift. -
I suggest you post dimensions. Other years and models may also fit.

1911 Model 14 or 1910 Model 10 as first car
Mark Shaw replied to Richard_D's topic in Buick - Pre War
A Model 14 is a very small 2 cylinder car similar to a Brush. A Model 10 is a 4 cylinder similar to a Model T Ford. A Model F is the big daddy 2 cylinder that can keep up with larger cars. -
This forum in buy/sell section or eBay would be a good start. You can also have new gears made or install an overdrive unit.
-
Swap the ring and pinion for taller gears and you will be OK at 55 mph.
-
I don't know of any judging manual that specifies what type is or isn't acceptable.
-
First, check for a sunken float.
