  1. @MrEarl may be able to help. I may have one on a Century parts car, but that wouldn’t really qualify as good condition, and shipping would get a little goofy crossing the border, unless you could wait to get it at or following the National in June (if you aren’t going, I could potentially send it with one of the guys from your neck of the woods).
  2. Thanks for the update Keith. I’ve been curious as to how things are progressing. I’ll try to remember to call some time next week perhaps (this coming week is quite busy) on a couple topics.
  3. We have been considering this. I’ve watched drags, but have never participated. It’s kind of a bucket list item for me, although none of my cars would provide much of a performance. My current thoughts are to drive the Skyhawk to participate in the Unrestored class, but that’s a dog...with the manual transmission, I may be able to get the 1941 down 1/4 mile faster 😳😉. The most likely candidate would be the 1976 Century PCR. Prior to my ownership, it’s seen some tweaks, so is a bit hotter than when it left the assembly line. The Wildcat would be a second choice, although it’s a heavier car. Going as spectators Friday evening would also be an option just for something different. Each driver is required to purchase a tech card, so if Luke and I both want to take a run, we would need to purchase two. I don’t think Teresa is particularly adventurous in that realm. I’m certain our cars won’t be fast enough to require a helmet, although it may be prudent. They do have a few available to rent if need be. At present it looks like three of us will be driving down and one flying as it would help her avoid a couple extra days off work. I’ve been told the back seat of the Skyhawk won’t do for an extended drive, so assuming that car remains plan A, we are either putting it in the trailer or driving two cars down.

  5. Thanks...I see I’m missing the low mileage Reatta from the signature. In the next couple of years I think I may actually find out what it’s like to actually sell a Buick as I need to give myself some breathing space...enough of them need work that I’m beginning to think I should consider passing them along to the next steward in the chain. Patience is a virtue...that is one of the challenges of getting cars transported.
  6. Good luck. My 1962 Special has been sidelined since the reverse clutch pack on the dual path transmission went out. I have a kit, but just haven’t done anything about it. The middle child actually suggested dealing with it and bringing it to Oklahoma, but I suspect we don’t have time for that, although the snow is now nearly gone, so I’m pining to get started on the season.
  7. I’m really late to this thread, but I love the Roadmaster coupe. It’s a great looking car. My 1941 Special has a similar colour scheme, but if I recall, it actually is a 1941 colour code, but that’s what’s stamped on the data plate, so my guess is someone liked the scheme on a 1940 and special ordered it that way. My car appears to be a darker blue...I don’t recall what it is and am being Sunday morning lazy about going to investigate. The 1941 cars are so smooth...with a small fleet, our 1941 is probably my wife’s favourite to ride in. Enjoy!
  8. I just read the bios provided by Mr. Gariepy. I don’t expect to see my hard copy of the Bugle for about 3 weeks yet. I’d prefer it if we could have a civil discourse about the BOD election, but I fear that we wouldn’t be able to act adult enough to have it. I’ve been around long enough to have met many of the BOD candidates. One question doesn’t seem to be asked in general is with departing members of the BOD, what skills will remain on the board and what will the board require? Emphasis on that may help us to move from a popularity contest to actually creating a more functional, cooperative board. Overall, I have to express my disappointment at the bickering occurring in recent history. How do we go from “I choose not to have my Buicks judged and don’t participate in judging” to being accused of wanting to dismantle judging if elected? How do we have a system that was so reliant on one individual that his passing caused so much turmoil? I believe having better systems and procedures and backup plans is a better way to go. I’ve received emails from both camps. They certainly tempt me to vote for the two individuals who are in neither camp. I’ve been a member about 16 years, joining in time to participate in the 2003 event in Flint. I’ve since attended many National Meets, joined a couple Divisions (and didn’t renew in one of them), have hosted a couple tours that some Gopher State Chapter and local BCA members participated in, and have been a Gopher State Chapter member since late 2005 / early 2006 - I initially joined to offer volunteer assistance for he 2006 meet. As I joined after the 400 point system was implemented, I can’t comment what the meets were like before then. I do wonder how things have changed. I also wonder what the banquet at the National was like before 400 point judging (I am assuming there was one). From personal observation and opinion, I do think there is perhaps too much emphasis on 400 point judging overall. My 23 year old daughter and I (and perhaps my 21 year old son...I forget) have attained the points to be recognized as Senior Judges in the BCA and have had some of our cars judged in the 400 point system and have had both disappointments and pleasant surprises with the 400 point system. I love that there is recognition for archival cars that haven’t been restored and recognition for members who have driven their Buicks to the event. I would never advocate eliminating the 400 point judging, but I think some tweaks and changes are in order to improve the system and reduce the stressors involved. I enjoy the BCA and the Bugle. I’ve made great friends that I never would have met but for attending National meets and this forum. I am grateful for them. I’m also grateful for the overall quality of the Bugle and would prefer it not be forced to receive cuts, even though I’m not “into” the Buicks featured in every issue nor in love with every article. I do read every issue from cover to cover. This is a hobby and I think we’d all be wise to remember that. My children have been raised as part of the BCA - they were 3, 5, and 7 at our first event in 2003. I’ve witnessed the decline of the youth programs at the National meet, but appreciate that there also seemed to be a demographic shift in attendees and in recent years I’d say we have an increase in family / youth attendees, so it would be ideal if we could institute those programs again. I’ve been asked a number of times to let my name stand for the board elections and I do see that happening in the future. At the present I have personal / business reasons for not doing so. Sorry for the ramble. I wish this overall situation was less contentious.
  9. Thanks guys...next time. My flight was delayed coming in Friday, so landed at YYZ just after 9, then got the rental and drove to NF. Tied up all day Saturday, then wrapped up shortly after 4 Sunday and supper in Burlington was supposed to be ready for 5:30. It’s always interesting striking a balance on business travel in terms of a bit of play time. She Who Must Be Obeyed would like to get there someday in warmer temperatures, so we may very well be back that way in the future...winery visits would be pretty high on the list. I did notice how many signs there were versus how relatively few of those wineries products are available in Manitoba liquor stores.
  10. Based on the paint chip at autocolorlibrary.com, I’d say the top is paler than Phoenix Beige, but that is working from memory. I don’t have any photos on this device to be able to make a comparison. If I recall, the top does have a tear, so it will need to be replaced at some point. Historically, we haven’t had too much issue with getting a decent colour match. That said, I haven’t had anything painted in recent history. The real challenge with the project is starting...the 1929 is “in progress”, but there’s been no significant change in over a a year now. She Who Must Be Obeyed would like to see the 1923 on the road before I dig into any other projects. There’s always something and deciding on priorities can be a little challenging sometimes. Of course, if I actually sold a few things that would help too.
  11. Nice Doug. I spent the weekend in Niagara Falls for training, stopped for supper in Burlington with cousins and my brother from Guelph joined us. By the time I left for the airport it was nearly dark as I was supposed to fly out of Pearson at 22:15...delayed half an hour or so. Closest thing I saw to any old cars was the Studebaker truck used as a billboard for an Italian eatery on Stanley in Niagara Falls.

  14. Our 1952 Roadmaster is green. The green interior looks right, but not the seats. I seem to recall ours having green carpet as well. I can’t make out the headliner in any of those photos to compare.
  15. I saw most of my old Buicks today...and cut through the drift in front of the shop with the tractor. It’ll be a while before anything gets on the road...I’ve got a lot to do to get ready and make some decisions about the driving season and Oklahoma.
  16. I’m more or less with Marty on this one...optional yes, so ultimately you can decide and neither will be incorrect, but I’d expect the proportion of Roadmasters with whitewalls to be considerably higher than the proportion of Specials. Of course, this is not an era of expertise for me.
  17. If the ambulance is based on a Buick then someone here does need it in a hurry 😜 Don’t have to worry about snakes nor hornets here at this time of year...and none of our snakes are poisonous in this neck of the woods anyway.
  18. Drool. I hadn’t noticed that it’s across the pond...sigh...that does make it more challenging. My wife has decided that 1933 is her favourite year styling-wise. This would fit right in to what is of interest. While we can certainly put together that range of money (these guys are talking about $100,000 Canadian), I’m not sure I can justify it. Would be nice...perhaps it is time to downsize the fleet and free up some cash at the same time.

  21. There’s space at our country place, and even a couple 1954 Buick Century’s to look over, if you ever decide to cross the border. I wouldn’t have guessed it had been that long...time flies. Take care my friend.
  22. I like how it’s the guys from Ontario posting updates when it’s still winter...I’ve probably got a month before things clear enough to consider getting the old iron moving...sigh.
  23. I intend to go, just haven’t got all the details figured out yet. I enjoy driving my Buicks, but if I have to drive 1000 miles to get to a meet, I’m generally a bit tired of driving and like to avoid too much of it for the few days we are down. Of course, if I use the truck and trailer, it’s more comfortable, but the experience is different and frankly, there is always some judgement going on...my cars aren’t trailer queens, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get pampered sometimes with a ride.
  24. They added a step of forcing you to clear the export through a broker, which adds time and of course the broker charges for the service. One used to be able to just provide a copy of the title to CBP at the crossing I was going to use at least 72 hours before crossing to export it.
