At least in preparing for winter, you know what the next number of months will be like. I really dislike wanting to get out in the summer, but weather playing havoc with that. Those days you planned to get out, then the weather turned sour, or the weather prediction was just out to lunch are such a bummer. It may be even worse to want to get out, but unable because there are too many other things that need doing.

Nice to have someone around that makes my 20 look amateurish.

I can’t provide direct help, but have you done a search for local appraisers? That may be the best route to go. Alternatively, there are online price guides, but overall, the older the vehicle and the lower the volume of sales, they tend to get less accurate. Good luck. It’s a pretty looking car. Six cylinder if I’ve got it right.

That’s as good an excuse as any to exercise the car.

If you ever get a chance to return to Kingston, see if it’s possible to take in the Sunset Ceremony (I think that’s what it’s called) at Fort Henry. We went a number of years ago and it was well worth it. On the same trip we saw the changing of the guard at Parliament Hill in Ottawa...the students in Kingston put our regular military to shame with precision.

The first time I tried I had some grief but I booked a room in the last week or so. It’s a starting point. No idea yet who may be attending nor what we may bring.

I love the vanity plate on the latest addition.

It would have been impressive, although more awkward...people going to the airport have enough grief dropping people off or picking people up without thinking about old cars showing up...there’s a bunch of stuff hanging out in the back as well and the front seat is marginally attached as we need to deal with carpet after floor repairs. I don’t recall his specific comments, but it did stand out, making it easier for us to connect (not a huge airport). He agreed the car is very 70s. Our later drive required seating for five, so we took the Envision.

I met a friend at the airport this afternoon. He was returning a rental car, so I figured that Grenouille would be more distinctive for him to find me, so I picked him up with the Skyhawk and brought him back to our house. About a 12 mile round trip or so of city driving. I was nice to get one out again as it’s been about two weeks since I’ve driven anything older, and that was a brief trip.

That’s certainly not any French I learned.

Oh wow! I’ve got a lot more into my 1962 Special convertible with the V6 that needs work...and the longer it sits, the more it needs. If it were closer, or perhaps north of the border, I’d certainly consider replacing the Special with the Skylark. Man on man. Go ahead Larry...they are great little cars, easy to drive, good fuel economy...could be an alternative when Beulah and the gang don’t want to cooperate, or when your left leg wants a break from the clutch pedal.

I had a very brief ride today in the Skyhawk. I filled the tank and took it to a car wash (I’d rather do it at home, but was lazy) to get it ready for Teresa to take to the movie shoot Wednesday. After I get back from Dallas on Monday, my intent will be to swap the Skyhawk for another car to exercise as well as take the 1959 somewhere to look at getting carpet installed, then it will be more pleasant to drive.

There had been a green coupe for sale around here a while back. I was tempted (as usual), but space and time limits had me pass it up. There’s a current temptation that would be another car we don’t see often any more, but She Who Must Be Obeyed is being a voice of reason.

I “saved” a 1926 chassis and a 1954 Century from being scrapped. At least I’ve eliminated the 1926 - it went to someone else working on a similar Buick...I forget the details. The Century continues to languish in the country yard...I really need to find it a home or dismantle to make it go away.

It depends what you have. Yes, my 1941 Special with the carburetor switch and three on the tree manual would eliminate many possible thieves. However, my collection spans from 1923 to 1988. I was thinking more of the 1970s stuff that was easy to get into, and relatively easy to hotwire compared to the new vehicles with their theft-deterrent systems. Even with the carburetor switch, someone might get lucky just by hitting the gas.

Somewhere along the way, I think they figured out they could only earn so much on new vehicle sales, so looked around for other opportunities. Thus came the parts that, if purchased separately, would cost considerably more than purchasing the assembled vehicle. Between that and the recommended service intervals, with the upsell that goes with them...you go to the dealer for an oil change on your late model vehicle and leave with a lot more than an oil change done and your wallet / bank account lighter. Don’t blame the engineers for how the marketing / accounting folks put everything together.

Well done. Now, if I was looking to have a Georgia car to come down and visit, contracting with someone for storage and stewardship, this would be mighty tempting. Is it an illusion with the grass, or is this a green car? Sometimes I thought it was green, other times wondered if it’s black. Edit: Paint code 517 is Van Gogh Green. Cool
