The people at the ac parts place in Florida (can't recall the name at the moment) told me that the front seal on the A6 compressors were meant to have a small leak to provide bearing lubrication. I imagine A5's would have the same engineering. In the '69 I found the spin off trails of oil after not using the system for a few years, but when I tapped on the frozen expansion valve two years ago the system was back in service. This compressor was a new one purchased around 2011 or there abouts.

Did you have to replace your fuel pump too? I will keep that in mind. I am afraid to think about the age on my fuel pump.

Once they are that tight the book also says to back off a bunch of notches. I forget how many. But one thing that has seemed to help a bunch of us is to do the anchor pin adjustment.

Thats a beautiful Buick. Whats the rush? How much faster than 40 do you expect to go? When that car was built there were not many super highways built so much more than 40 may not have been envisioned 🤔. Still, it makes sense to fix what is broken. Wishing you good luck and happy motoring.

There are several possibilities. The most immediate thought is the rubber seal is broken or missing alltogether. But let me just say that folks on this forum like to give pertinent answers rather than guessing at the situation. That being said, a picture of the area in question would likely get better replies as to what can be the problem. A generic question like you pose presumes someone is familiar with your individual car, but I am sure that is not the case here.

There is a list of vendors under the general category heading. Other than that you shoukd join the Buick Club of America. There is a monthly magazine with a lot of vendors of Buick parts. But don't overlook your local auto parts stores. There are many parts still available there.

Ok, so you do see the two bolts on the top of the valve covers? Pull those and disconnect that black hose at the front corner on the drivers side plus you have to disconnect the line that crosses the cover on the passenger's side. That is connected to the automatic choke housing on the carburator with a fitting but is usually just slid over a collar on the backside of the passengers side exhaust manifold. Woth those few things off the covers should lift straight up.

Taking off that cover will expose a bunch of parts. I believe they have to be removed to get the rest of the Torque converter coverter off to access the front main seal. There is also an "o"ring gasket for that cover itself. Be sure to understand how to put those parts back in the converter in the right orientation. It will make a big difference in how your car performd.

Also check your dipstick for a loose cap. That happened to my 56, and as the cap slipped past its predetermined stop the stick always gave a false reading.

Ok. Sometimes it is hard to tell if one is being baited. And I mean no disrespect to Nick but that question was so innocent that I thought there coukd be a nefarious intent. I guess that is what happens in the written vs in person conversation. @Mr. Reed, there were 9 years with many a change between 50 to 59. If you were looking to install either unit into the car at the opposite end of the year range you included, someone with a lot of Dynaflow experience might be able to make it work, but it is not a bolt in operation. It might help the discussion if you could expand on why you were asking the question.

In todays news, ran the GS in the (in)famous St Patricks Day Parade. I did this last year with Annie, but I had no riders. This year they threw the Tulip Queen and her court at the car! Yep, the lovely tall lady, who played basketball in college was the Queen. It was a larger crowd this year with very nice weather

And, in yesterday's news! love those first season rides. Especially when everything works the way you expect!

@buickbrothers thats a good idea. Those explosion diagrams look kind scary. It looks easy to make a mistake.
