  1. I took my 37 Buick out of the barn yesterday ,and went for a check out ride. I gor about 8 miles and a guy pulled out in fron of me and destroyed the lefr front fender. I at least was able to get far enough off the road to keep from hitting the grille. A fender and head light ,and some possible suspension work and it will be OK again.
  2. I seem to recall that they used a 9/16--18 ,which is not a common size, but should be available.
  3. The original Wildcat ll runs 4 side draft Webbers
  4. It is also April fools day, so be careful out there
  5. Silicone fluid raises havoc with the hydraulic stop light switches. If you run synthetic, carry an extrs switch as you will need it eventually, and they are not always available .
  6. Congratulations !!! It is apparent that you were meant for each other, and enjoy each others company as much as we enjoy yours.
  7. SBRMD My personal belief is that the whols judging system needs a COMPLETE overhaul. We have judges that do not know enough , and while we have many that are competent, there are not enough of them. I have stated numerous times that there should be judging teams made up of members familisr with the particulr years as they are the most knoweledgable about those cars. The BCA set up is that you can't judge a class if your car is in it. I believe there should be seminars for members that want to know what is correct for their Buick , and the conductors of those seminars should know what is proper . The national judging has been done in the past by many members that really try, but do not know what is right. I have beat this subject to death over the years, and I am sorry if I come off in a negative way , but The BCA has evolved into a different organization than the one I joined in 1969. There is no such thing as "sstatus Quo " and I realize you have to move in some direction, I just don't care for the direction it is going.
  8. The simplest way to resolve the problem is to enjoy your Buick the way you want it , and do NOT worry what anyone else thinks
  9. You also need the backing plates ,. You can use yours if you machine some of the lip off.
  10. I put Roadmaster drum brakes on my 40. The originals are 1 3/4 and the Roadmasters are 2 1/4 .They stop the car well
  11. Sid& Tina I'm glad you are running again, but if it happens again ,PLEASE CALL ! You would have been a lot more comfortable in a bed, and you were only 1-1 1/2 hours away. Joe
  12. I dug a path back to the barn through 10-12 inches of new snow just to make sure they were still anug under their covers, and the battery tenders were still working. Two days ago it looked like spring, but 10+ inches of snow changed the scene considerably.
  13. I do not have the equipment to put pictures on the web, but I just looked at my set up. I have a later system on my 40 so it has a bracket that bolts to the thermostat housing, and a strap holds the filter. I also found an earlier filter, and it appears the cannister is also held by a strap that has a bracket going to the same area, andanother strap going to the side cover bolt. Hope this helps.
  14. I was introduced to them 12 years ago when I picked one up for a winter beater. It was a 96 ,had 250K on it, and the trans was not shifting into 3rd. I did the trans, and found they were really good cars. I started looking for a better one, and a friend said he would sell me his, as he was liviing in Florida and the car was in his garage in Flint. This was in the spring of 2003 ,and I told my friend I would buy it when he came up for the BCA meet that summer. This wagon was from Oklahoma and although it had 200K on it ,was a really nice car Just before the meet ,I was called by another friend that had found a 92 with 60K , so I bought that one and sold the Oklahoma car at the 2003 meet. ( I wish now I kept it for a spare as they are getting scarce ) I drove the first wagon until 2006 and then sold it . My 92 now has 90K on it and although it will probably live as long as I will, I wish I had a spare !! THEY ARE GREAT CARS !!!!!!!
  15. The rub strips , as Pete said ,are a problem, but they are GREAT cars, I am on my 3rd one and am looking for another just as a spare. What else, other than a truck will allow you to haul a 4X8 sheet of plywood inside , and still get 23-25 MPB
  16. Check your fuel pressure. It may be the fuel pump ,or a clogged filter.
  17. The rear ends in the Buicks will interchange through 55. I have a 3.42 in my 40 and LOVE it If the drive shaft ane torque tube are different lengthes, install yours on the cast iron pig , and bolt it in. This way you do not have to worry about gear lash, unless the unit you are installing is not too good.
  18. Filtering the oil in a 40 was done by mounting the filter in the line that feeds the rocker arm assembly. It only filtered the oil that went through there. Later cars had "full flow" filters that filtered all the oil that came through the pump They were better than nothing, but not by much. I change the filter in my 40 about every 10,000 miles and I have over 100,000 miles on the engine ,and it still runs great.
  19. My parents had a 1929 Buick and a Palace "split coach" trailer when I was 4-5 years old (1937-38) and we camped all over Michigan. The " split coach " was unique , in that it was 7 feet wide, and when you reached your destination, you cranked it apart in the middle. The door went in one end ,and a panel went in the other. This left an aisle down the middle ,and 2 sets of bunk beds on either side of the aisle. I wish i had some pictures of it
  20. Sid That looks like a great rig ! When you get in my area ,give me a call , and I'll spring for dinner .
  21. Lamar You are probably right . I know that the Century brakes are bigger than my 40 fronts ,and they helped a lot.
  22. Don Have you already replaced the front brakes??? They do 70%+ of the stopping. If I remember correctly , the Century has larger front brakes that are a bolt on.
  23. In 48 they started using side motor mounts, and had bosses for mounting. This engine can be used from 37 to 47
  24. Just remember that getting old is manditory ,and growing up is OPTIONAL HAPPY BIRTHDAY WILLIE
  25. Call Skip Boyer 717-632-0670 He did make some very nice replicas
