  1. I bought a 47 Super Eight and the VIN on the registration and insurance paperwork going back almost 20 years does not match the plate on the passenger side under the hood over the body type plate. I can't find any other VIN on the car. I don't want to return this to the seller... Love the car, but worry about the legality. Any idea exactly where the other VIN's may be hiding?

  4. Saw this on Phoenix c-list last week (but not on the Tucson list, and it's in Tucson). Unfortunately I don't recall the price they had listed... Guess they really want to move it.   6. This is a native Colorado car with a solid body and virtually no rust. The car is mostly complete, has never been restored. It has a straight eight engine that ran, I am told, a few years ago. It turns by hand but I have not tried to start her. It has a radiator problem, I am told and the car comes with 2 radiators. Thisis a really nice project car$2000

Hi, I have a 1953 Buick super, vin inside door is 17192251, although the third and last 1 look like I's mod 53-52 style 53-4519 body g34448 trim 51 paint 59 bd acc p How can I find out if the engine number is the original, Also, it is green, but the paint number says blue? thanks if someone can decode

  10. Have a question: I moved to Milwaukee for work. Shipped my 1947 Super from TX and it arrived with a dead battery. The truck driver offloaded it and then he jumped it with a 12 volt charger. I wasn't happy about it, but couldn't leave it on the side of the road in the area I'm living until we close on a house. The battery died again as soon as I got it into the garage. Bought a charger, the charger broke down before charging the battery. Bought a new battery, put it in and now the car doesn't seem to fire. Starter sound okay, but no start. Could the 12 volt jump screwed up anything that I should think about replacing? Another thought. I believe the 40s buicks had a safety feature that routed the generator through the ingnition. If the brushes were worn down, the car would not start. Could this be the issue with the dead battery and now the failure to start?
  11. 49 Buick Super 4dr sedan straight 8 Dynaflow, I bought this hoping to have time to bring it back but I don't, It has been stored most likely in a Garage for years, (no mouse damage)someone loved this old girl the interior was redone and painted some time ago! Amazing sheet metal it's had a small patch at spare tire well other than that I don't find any metal that needs replacing! I believe it's the original Eng. but does not turn, I do have a spare eng that does and comes with the car, I have inspected the under sides and other than some dirt it's in great shape it could easily be a driver or a easy restore, Some trim missing no Frt bumper I have a restorable rear, air filter missing. Brake pedal goes to floor. I completed the lien process and car is ready to be titled. Car is in Oregon, Can email lots of pics.   12. 1950 Buick Super Dynaflow 4 door,no motor or trans. I am trying to sell the car to a good home. This was a project car that went south when i discovered that water had decided to hang out inside the engine. Tennessee car and title built in flint. Real solid car except floor boards and the rockers. Has the desired demon teeth 1950 chrome grill that never stops and the the three oblong holes in the hood and not the fender.   14. Hey folks, bear with me. The Short story is the starter solenoid plunger activates, the starter does not. The long story is that "Bruce" ( what we named our Buick), finally needed a carb rebuild & its manifold straightened out. This part went well. Bruce's starter had been "dragging" for a few months even though it was rebuilt new internals & with a NOS solenoid. When we went to start Bruce, the dragging was worse and all we got was a 1/2 hearted sputter & a lot of no start. The original +cable got quite warm. We replaced it with a #2 from Autozone. Plunger worked, starter did not. (Battery is new & fully charged) So I pulled the starter & had my guy look it over. He freshened it up and bench tested it. In the mean time I obtained a NOS +battery cable. Same result. Plunger in, starter no go. Voltages seem good & steady everywhere & the two ground straps are in good shape. (1 bat to engine mount & 1 block to firewall) Questions: Did I miss something obvious? Could it be something internal to the engine? Could the ball in the Carb switch have been screwed up by the rebuild? Final thoughts: Last time Bruce ran he started then sputtered to a stop. At first we thought his ignition system went fuzzy. The coil was dead. So I replaced the coil, condenser, rotor & cap. Wires are still new & plugs were clean. He would turn over but not start, dragging of course. I noticed the carb was leaking badly again, so we decided to take care of that too. I'm afraid I might be dealing with a busted timing chain. Thoughts, I need a few. Engine is the original 248 straight 8 with the Dynaflow. Thanks guys & gals Dave

  16. Hello I bought a 1956 Buick Super a few years ago and am stuck in the middle of what direction I should go with the car. Make it my own? or go stock original? I'd like to know what factory original looks like exactly. I've been reading several other threads and notice everyone asks for a website to help decode their body tags, and I am believing that i am blind or there isn't one?. Id like to assume its all original but that would be retarded. Any advise from someone who has such info or could offer me a little guidance would be much appreciated, This will be my first resto. and post.   17. I have 2 1952 Super 2dr HT cars for restoration. The red one was my grandfathers, a restoration was started back in the early 80s before he passed. It is partially dis-assembled and the engine had been rebuilt but never run. I purchased the yellow one from Kansas back in 2000 as a parts car. It is completely assembled and unrestored; supposedly ran back in 1999 but I have not tired to start it. Between the two are good bodies, sheet metal, trim, powertrains, etc. Both could be restored or combined into one car. I also have numerous used and NOS parts I have been collecting over the past 10 years (not included with the cars). Both have clean titles and are located in the Minneapolis MN area. $3900 for both OR $2700 for the yellow one, $1700 for the red one. Pictures available upon request. rcarlso833@gmail.com
  18. What is the best way to get my faded odometer numbers restored? Should I take it apart and repaint them myself or is this something best left to a speedometer restoration shop? The MPH numbers are fine, but the odometer numbers are faded almost beyond recognition. Any tips? I'm mighty handy with brush and paint.
  19. Hello, My 1949 Buick Super 248 straight eight (Dynaflow) recently started lacking power…a lot of power. For example going up slight grades at only 35-40mph. I’ve rebuilt the carburetor, put in new plugs, wires, coil, points, condenser, checked the fuel filter and pump. Even hooked up an aux 6volt electric pump…NO CHANGE. Still has lost most of it’s power. Runs fine at idle no miss or erratic idle. When driving it cruses a long fine, but when you put the peddle down to the floor, the engine bogs down and if you take you foot up a little, it seems to get more power. I drive this car about 50mph on a level highway and when I encounter a small hill, I lose so much power. Any ideas? I’ve even checked the values to make sure they were not hanging up. I do want to add though, that at idle, the engine starts develop blue smoke and when you race it, there is a cloud. Does not smoke when driving. Thanks Robert
  20. howdy all, i'm parting out some redundant parts from my '53 resto. I'm slowly going through the stuff I need, would like to keep as an extra part, and the things I don't need. So far, I've got: -Sonomatic radio. 12 volt. I'm not sure if it works. -Dash (no gauges, just the frame) Light surface rust, no rust-through. -Gas tank. I'm honestly not sure this can be salvaged but thought I would see before I sent it to the metal scrapyard. It had a dime size hole punched in it by a fellow at a radiator shop to "drain" it. then they attempted to patch the hole. I used Eastwood's gas tank restorer and Tank Tone but it was done poorly and rust is seeping through and I hear flakes inside.   21. Hi, I'm selling my 1950 Sedanette 2d, it has a little over 55,000 miles. It has been 90% restored but I have almost all parts to get it to 100%. I have put over 21k into it and have all receipts. The car is black and is all original, brand new: Brakes, upholstery, paint, master cylinder, everything has been rechromed except for radio and door handles.   22. My brother's whack-job mother-in-law (really, he has papers) shoved Grandads two door fastback out of the barn, but didn't tell anybody. Car is intact - except for the skirts, naturally- but has been in the weather long enough it will need everything. Engine turns over, but no attempt has been made to force the old girl to run. I'll try to post the photo link soon, we'd like to get around 2500, and it is advertised locally (Kent Island, Md.) Last ran in '98?, some spares, reasonably close delivery possible.
  23. I ran across a really nice 1940 Buick Super 4-door sedan in Hanover, MA today - it is an all original car including paint and interior, about 50K original miles. The owner bought it in 1964, and used it for limited pleasure dirving. The paint and chrome need attention, but the body is solid and the original interior is very nice. Black with gray cloth, new blackwall tires. The engine compartment is original and needs detailing, but the motor runs well and everything works except for the Speedometer. It has the factory radio. I took a few photos of the car, which is not advertised anywhere. I live in Virginia, or else I would be sorely tempted. The owner wants $8,000 for the car.
