1. I am not going to argue anymore about 350s vs 455 ,but I,ve been building engines for quite a while, and a 455 and a 350 cost almost the same for parts and when I can get 105 cubic inches free ,I,m going to take them. The 76 455 with a cam will outpull a 350 with a cam, headers, intake manifold and ignition ,so whats more cost effective??
2. I guess that is what makes the world go around ( differences of opinion) I still feel that it takes a fairly healthy 350 to whip a stock 455
3. I agree with Bruce. The club has a few people who are resisting change , but they are in the minority! I have been in the BCA since 1969 and seen it change from a group of people who enjoyed their cars to a club that thought that perfect cars were the only thing worth having. The pendulum is swinging back ! The Driving Enthusiasts and the performance Division are bringing fun back to the BCA. You will find that there is now a small group of BCA people who have cars other than show pieces. I have a 40 super convert that has been to the Meadowbrook Concours and the Eyes on the Classics show at the Ford mansion, but I also have a 72GS that I drag race at the GSCA meets and a 37 Special Coupe that has 455 Buick power and all the usual street rod toys, and I,m 67 ! The young peop[le are going to save this club and I hope you will join them and help!
Joe Taubitz
BCA-1308
BDE- 001
GSCA-3800

5. The injection system is a TA single plane intake with injector ports welded into the runners and an aftermarket unit bolted to the carb area. It had TA stage 2 aluminum heads and a really nasty sounding cam It looks like ,if they can get the power to the ground ,it will run some GOOD numbers
6. I bought a 72GS a few years ago and the 3.31 12 bolt was in the car. I haven,t the faintest idea what it came from ,but it fit and it works, so until it breaks I,m just going to run it.
7. I forgot to mention that GM was playing with numbers in those years, and the 315 HP 350 rated by the later system would have been hard pressed to crack 225HP
8. there is still no substitute for cubic inches, unless you consider nitrous or a turbo or blower. A 455 with a decent rebuild ( cam, pistons, intake headers) will make more HP and be more streetable than a built 350
9. I have 200R4 in my 72 GS and it is GREAT!!!! I took it to BG and found that the 87GN governor is too much for my 455. it wouldn,t shift til 5900 and thats too much for my motor. Also the speedo was off 20% ,so I put in a Cadillac governor with the red speedo gear and it shifts at 5200and the speedo is almost dead on. I have a 3.31 gear and a 4,000 lb. convert and it runs 13.1and gets 17+ MPG

11. 63 Electra 2dr. hard top 22,800 actual miles, original black paint is excellent , grey interior is perfect, all new hoses, beltsand tires. stored for 10 yearsand just completed 5,000 mile trip .One of the best originals around. Buick has power steering and brakes ,radio and heater
I,m asking $8900
Contact :buickjoet@aol.com
Or call Joe at: 810-655-8988
car is in Flint Mich. area
12. If the carbs are stock ,it has to be a 41 or 42 as these were the only years for dual carbs. If the carb and manifolds are good , they should be worth $200
13. They have had 2 national meets in California and they were both very nice. The one in LA didn,t have a lot of high point cars , but the one in Sacramento had some high quality Buicks. I would like to see another meet out there ,but I,m not sure it will happen as it takes a lot of work and the big chapters have already done it. I,m not sure that we need a meet in 2002 as we will have a real barn burner in 2003 and maybe we could have some really great regionals in 2002 !! Everyone thinks this is an annual meet , but we didn,t have a national in 1974 so the precedent has been set
14. I just got back from the nationals and have decided to sell my GN . I bought it 4 years ago with the engine in a basket. it had been parked since 90 with a blown engine. I honestly beleive it had a bad cam from the factory ,as the paper work I got with it showed it being returned to the dealer 3 or 4 times for now power. It now has a.030 set of forged pistons ,Lunati cam , new turbo ,and was gone through completely. I also replaced all the hoses ,belts and filters. I drove it 2900 miles onthis trip and got 23+ MPG and it ran great ,but I have too many cars and this is the logical one for me to sell as I HATE electronics. If you are interested let me Know . I,m asking $10,500 and it,s a good car. It is all original and VERY NICE
buiskjoet@aol.com
15. My suggestion would be to do what you want with your car, and not worry about what other people think . I just put duals on my 40 and I know it,s wrong ,but it sure sounds COOL!
16. Before you buy any insurance for an old car, you should check out Hagerty. they are the mosy reasonable ,and they let you drive them without any mieage restrictions.
17. No buick 455 crank came from the factory cross drilled. They did drill the galley hole larger and put a larger diameter pick up on to improve oiling in the later engines.
18. My 40 did the same thing ,so I took the radiator to the shop and was told there was nothing wrong with it. After fighting the problem for 3 years ,I took the rad out and had it recored. The rad man said it was 2/3 plugged. It now runs 180 no matter how hard I push it.
19. The best 455 is the 70 because it wasn,t hurt too much by the EPA. It had 10- 1 compression and more HP. Actually any big block from 67-69(430) to70- 76 (455) will fit!
20. You will be much better off in the long run ,putting in a 455. It,s not that big a job ,and it will be much more cost effective than building a b***ard motor
21. If I could have gotten one of these ,I wouldn,t have had to build a street rod , because it looks like Buick built the ULTIMATE BUICK
22. There is a supercharged 455 running at the GS nats every year that runs in the 11s and he has a 200-4R and hasnt broken it in 3 yrs. I just put one in my 72 GS and I think it,s good for .2 in the 1/4 and 3 miles per gallon , and with gas prices going like they are I made a good move.
23. The first thing is to see if it,s the steering box or the tie rods. if you have some one turn the wheel while you watch the pitman arm ,you will be able to see whether it,s in the box or the steering linkage. If it,s the box ,get out the manual and adjust it as per instructions. If it is in the linkage, replace the worn parts and you should be in good shape.
24. I have vintage air in my 37 coupe ,and it is GREAT! It also usea R-134a instead of freon 1 at $35 a pound . As the old saying goes : tyr it you,ll like it
