1. Dave,
When you blasted the crud from the passageway, you allowed exhaust heat up to the carb and that is what causes the problem. I block all heat to the intake and it solves the problem. If I remember correctly , your carb has a passage around the front that allows the exhaust gases to run right under the carb .You might be able to plug hte heat there and not even have to remove the intake.
2. The gasoline we have today is much more volatile than the fuels of old. I use my Buicks only in the summer ,so I completely block all the heat to the carb. You can either plug the holes or get a gasket that stops the passage. Even if you take the car out in cool weather ,it doesn't take long to warm up and this should solve the problem.
3. The business coupe had no rear seat and the sport coupe had jump seats
4. I am parting out a 62 invicta 4 dr. it has power windows, steering and brakes. The engine runs very well and allthe glass except the rear window are good . Let me know what you need!
buickjoet@aol.com
5. I am trying to lighten the inventory as I have too many toys. Thanks for the thought ,but if I get another car it will need a bed in it as the wife has decreed enough is enough!
6. One thing that you are all missing is the fact that many cars done by hot rodders are cars that have been passed up by the restorer as not worth doing. Ther was a 25 Buick 4dr in my area some years ago that was passed on by all the restorers as too much work,as it needed to be completely rewooded and it wasn't worth it. A street rodder built a complete square tube frame for it and dropped in a small block chev. When he was done ,all the purists in the area were up in arms about the waste of a good car ,BUT they all passed it up!I recently did a 37 Buick coupe and some of the local BCA members were upset when they saw it with a 455 and bucket seats, and all the latest comforts. The fact that I would have had to destroy another car to make it original doesn't count in their book! I bought the car with no motor, trans,or interior and the body looked like lace for the bottom 6 inches. There is room in the hobby for everyone! I was into racing for years and went into antiques when my boys got old enough to break my race cars.I have been to every BCA national meet, and still run at the drags with a GS and enjoy my street rod
37 Buick /455 powered
40 Super convert restored
57 Buick /455 powered
63 Buick 23,000 original
72 Buick GS 13.05 at 105
87 Buick GN original
91 Buick
7. Dave, that had to be a hard lesson, but i'll bet you make it a point to check fluid levels and not trust any one but yourself.
8. I forgot to mention that this GN also has a rust free body, and a perfect interior. it has power steering , brakes, windows, cold AC and beautiful paint.

13. It is OK to block the return line. The line was put in so that fuel would circulate through the pump at all times, allowing cooler gas to help the vapor lock problem that many of those cars had.Blocking the return is the same as installing a 2 line pump!
14. If you check the Old Car value Guide you will find that a number one 57 century 4 dr is worth $18,000 which means you had better reevaluate your vehicle
15. Buick made some years ago for their export kit. This was for the cars that were racing . I have not seen any for years, so you will probably have to settle for adjustable push rods.
16. At Columbus last year ,the largest class was the modified class. There are many long time BCA members who are interested in Buicks of all kinds. My 40 has been to Meadowbrook ,my Gs has been down the drag strip ,and ny 37 street rod takes me to rhe cruises. It is true that to maintain the quality and authenticity of our Buicks we need KNOWLEDGABLE judges ,but there is nothing in our bylaws that says we cant do what we want to our cars. The newboard is addressing this in a very positive way ,and I for one give them my total support
Joe Taubitz
BCA-1308
BDE-1
GSCA-3800
MBCCA 420
17. I agree that the South East chapter worked hard to put on a show under adverse conditions, but if you like big post war cars , how come you didn,t buy my 63 electra with 23,000 actual miles on it?
18. It is a 425 cubic inch . 465is the torque
19. The 465 Wildcat is in reality a 425 cubic inch engine. The 465 is the torque it produces. GM was playing number games in that era and used the biggest numbers it had available. the 445 was a 401 cubic inch engine.
20. Sean has been working on this car for a couple of years, and he has done a lot of research ,including cam and intake design. I am sure that before he is done ,He will have it way down in the 12s. The best thing about it is he is married ,has a batch of kids and still finds time for cars. Who says the hobby is dead when there are young guys like him out there!
21. Check some of the posts on this forum and you will find that MOST( not all ) feel that the 200-4R is the way to go
22. The best HEI is the one from the 350 as it has a better advance curve than the 455 HEI. If you change the gear you are in business. The 350 has 14 tooth and the 455 has a 13 tooth, but they are interchangBLE
23. Jim, do you have a pair of mirrors for a 72 riv ? Ifso ,how much? buickjoet@aol.com
24. Keith, don,t forget that the 64 has an aluminum intake and heads,so if you are doing it for authenticity you will have to go with the proper year as they look quite a bit different.
25. Sprocket , why don,t you bring the 350 to the gsca nationals next year ,and whip my tired old 455
