1. At the auto show in January, Buick will unveil a new concept car called the Bengal. It will be front wheel drive , have a 250 HP 3.4 supercharged V6,and a 6 speed automatic trans. It looks like a 2 seater ,but the tonneau slides back and there is seating for 4. If they make this available, maybe we can save Buick yet
  2. Denny's riv is also a BCA senior award winner and is driven to the meets. It is a 425 with the dual carb option, and runs as good as it looks
  3. I have a 57 special and I took the easy way out and sat it on a 72 Electra chassis . this way you get all the later model parts in one shot
  4. Don't change the bell housing,as they were machined as a unit. If you have to change the bell housing on a straight 8 alway indicate the pilot hole and make sure it runs true with the crank or you will have a tranny that will not stay in gear.
  5. I just returned from my middle boys home ,after watching his 3 children destroy 4 hours of wrapping in 5 minutes, and it was wonderful!!!! I hope everyone had as nice a day as I did ,andhope that 2001 treats you all to more new Buicks and more old friends!
Joe Taubitz BCA 1308
BDE 001
  6. I will probably never meet any of you because I don't go to any AACA meets ,but I have enjoyed this forum immensely, and would like to take this oportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year
Joe Taubitz ( certified Buick freak)
  7. My resolution for 2001 is to go to more meets in the immediate area. I put 15,000 miles on my Buicks going to the different meets,in 2000 and that is too many. I will spend the whole winter trying to get the cars back in shape
  8. If you have a hydraulic stop light switch ,I would be leery of the silicone fluid ,as most of the hydraulic switches will fail in a short time with silicone fluid
  9. Ring around the pole
Equipment : 30 ft of 3/8 rope
a small 3 or 4 lb. weight
a 3-4 ft. pole with a bottom large enough to stand alone, but small enough that a slight tug will tip it over.
tie the rope to the stand tip and the other end to the left door handle with the weight tied in the center of the rope. The idea is to drive a complete circle around the stand from a marked spot and back ,without tipping the pole over or letting the weight touch the ground.
Lowest time wins

Shuffle Board
equipment : 3lines (rope on grond,tape
or chalk)

You may have one practice run
Drive to starting line, and wait for official to get in car
on signal from official drive forward. at or before reaching second line, shift into neutral touching nothing but the steering wheel ,allow the car to coast to a stop at the third line.
officials will measure the distance from a point directly below the front bumper to the finish line. The contestant who who finishes closest to the finish line without crossing it is the winner
Failure to shift into neutral before the second line or touching the brake disqualifies the contestant.
The distance the lines are spaced apart depends on the size of the field. Experiment until you get something that works for you

  11. I'm sorry!!I didn't realize what sheltered lives you DFers have led. In Michigan we play games with our cars at least once a yr. I see some of the games we use are already posted , but another one that is fun is the potato game: You can run 2 or 3 cars at a time,or singly against a clock. You lay out as many courses as you have room for ,preferably not in a straight line. Then you place 3 or 4 potatoes along each course and give the passenger in each car a broom handle with a nail on the end. The object of the game is to stab each spud with the nail ,drop it in a bucket placed by each spud and race to the finish.
Another game that is fun is the balloon game : Using the same course as the spud game ,place 3 or 4 balloons on the ground and make the drivers run over and break the balloons with their right front tire. This is a riot as the balloons are tough to get!!!
We also have boards made with valves, valve springs, and pistons hung on the board. the board is put behind a rope and the driver must drive slowly by as the passenger throws fan belts at the boards attempting to hook them on the different objects which have different values. We use 3 boards so the cours can be long enough to make it interesting. There are lots more games ,but I type VERY SLOWLY and so I Quit.
Joe T

  12. Buick and Olds performance parts are about the same price ,but Buick parts are more readily available. The 455 in place of the 350 will probably scare you the first time you jump on it ,but you will LOVE IT
  13. Thank You Jeff, and I hope you have a joyous and Happy holiday
Joe Taubitz BCA 1308
BDE 001
  14. We have done this numerous times and it is a ball! You can choose teams of two and give a passenger in the car a plunger . You then line the teams up 2 at a time and have them cover a specified distance. the kicker is that they must hold a ballon between the plungers as they race to the finish. We also have broom sticks with a nail in the end and we lay out a twisty course and time each car as they drive up to a potato on the course and try to stab it without stopping the car. There are a lot of things you can do . If you want some more ideas E-mail me at : buickjoet@aol.com
  15. I thought that 55 cams and 56 lifters were not compatible. I thought they changed from a forged to a cast cam, which required the lifters to be different.
  16. You will probably have trouble finding a lead based product, but prussian blue makes an acceptable substitute and can be purchased at most art supply stores
  17. My wife and I have given up on going out on new years eve. We usually have 3 or4 couples over and play cards or some silly game that requires no thought. That way we can visit and don't have to think too hard. We watch the ball come down on the tube ,toast the new year and hit the sack .
  18. I have 6 children ,and they all have families,so we celebrate Christmas at our house a week early and all the kids and their families come here. We draw names ,so each one receives a gift and it doesn't break the bank, and we patry and then they go home. Each year my wife and I go to one of their homes on Christmes eve ,and that way they can start traditions in their own families and we can watch the Grandkids from a different family every year. We have 13 Grand children, and 2 more on the way ,so it makes a lovely Holiday for Bernice and I.

  19. Buick also made some pick-ups in 1940. They were built for use by the factory ,and were made on Roadmaster chassis. They were supposedly crushed ,but one that I know of got away, and was in the Flint area for years.
Joe Taubitz
BCA 1308
BDE 001
  20. For what it's worth, I put metro rubber on my 32 wherever I could ,and Steele rubber where Metro wasn't available. Two yrs. later I replaced all the metro rubber with Steele products because the metro was going bad . You remember Jim that was a while back ,but I still spend the extra and get Steele products.
Joe Taubitz
BCA 1308
BDE 001
  21. The 364 and 401 through 63 are interchangable.Installing the 455 is another matter unless you can find an adapter that will allow you to hook to the Dynaflow, and that isn't really a good idea. The other option is to replace the trans and rear end,and that is, a lot of work. You are better off to find a good 401 and put it in the hole.

    unlead gas

I regularly put 4 gal of diesel fuel in the 22 gal tank on my 32 Buick. It was a 4-1/2 to 1 compression engine and using diesel kept it from vapor locking in hot weather. The fuel available in 32 probably had no more octane than my mixture. I hauled a 1935 Covered Wagon house trailer to California with the 32 in 1976 and it did the job just fine
  23. I just read my post and realized that it said "on the trunk" , it should have said " in the trunk" as the unit fits on the ledge over the rear axle and the tubes go up into the shelf.
  24. I have a 57 that I just installed AC in ,and I used the system from Classic Air from Tampa. The reason I used it is because thay have a unit that fits on the trunk and blows up from the package shelf in the rear. This way you have your original heat and defrost unit intact. I just got back from TN and FL and it works GREAT!!!
