1. If you are going to use the th-400 on your 38 364ci engine ,you will have to machine the end of the crank,as the th- 400 needs extra clearance.
2. Count the teeth on the gear. If it has 14 teeth it is a 350 and if it has 13 ,it is a 455. I use the 350 HEI in my 455 by changing the gear. Any gear will fit ,even from a point style distributor. The 350 HEI has a better curve than the 455 as far as performance is concerned.
3. A 57 Buick is 364 CI and was the first V8 Buick to run a single action pump . There is not enough room for a dual action pump. The 57 had a vacuum pump that was attached to the oil pump in the pan and I think if you don't have enough vacuum you would be better off installing an electric wiper motor . the electric unit from a 57 Chev is a bolt on replacement.
4. My first car was a 1931 Buick that I towed home with most of the engine in the back seat. I was 15 ,and I put it together and was one of the few sophomores to have a car. Actually in 1948 I was one of very few school kids that had wheels.
5. I forgot to mention 1/4 mile times. You should run mid 14s if you have posi. My coupe runs 14.0s at96 MPH on 235-75X15 street tires
6. If you use the 700 trans ,you will need an adapter ,unless you got one of the rare ones that have a dual pattern. Motor mounts can be purchased from TA or Poston and you can use the brackets that come with the 455for most of the accessories. Use the Q-jet ,as it is set up for that engine ,and is a good carb. Gas mileage with a 2.5 axle should be 16-17 . I have a 2.56 in my 37 with a 455 and it pulls 17-18 but it is 400 pounds lighter than your Skylark
7. I have a 91 Ultra ,and it is a great car ,but it does not have the supercharged engine. Perhaps they brought it out late in the run, but I have never seen one.
8. The 64 300 had aluminum heads and intake ,so it is probably 70-80 pounds lighter than the 340

hello

Welcome aboard!! The more the merrier
10. I always knew that us car guys were a little strange .This proves my point!!!
This is a GREAT site
Thanx Tony
11. I have had this problem through the years with older engines ,and usually a can of STP which is a viscosity improver ,will raise the pressure enough to do away with the problem
12. I knew EJ wasn't the only crazy one out there, and here is proof!!!
13. The Bengal has asupercharged 3.4 liter V6 with a 6 speed automatic trans. The trans is mounted in front of the engine ,which allows very little overhang. It has 20 inch wheels and appears to be a two seater ,but a retractable tonneau over the rear seats slides back and a third door on the drivers sideadmits two more passengers. The Bengal has a 101 inch wheelbase ,which is only two inches less than the 2000 Le Sabre ,but because of the trans positioning it is actually 25 inches shorter than the Le Sabre . The engine is rated at 250 HP and it has no IP .as everything is voice activated.
14. I stand corrected. I know that when he ran in Michigan ,he always drew a big crowd ,and he and the speedsport roadster out of phoenix would guarantee standing room only at Central Mich Dragway where I spent much of my time and money. The only other vehicle to come close to the spectator appeal was EJ Potter and his V8 chev powered motorcycle called Bloody Mary
15. That was his early rail! I have 8mm movies of his 4 engine 4 wheel drive rail with hilborn injected 425 nail heads in . It wasn't really that fast ( 150-160) but it sure was impressive ,as it smoked all 4 tires the whole length of the strip
16. Try :Poston Enterprises
200N. Main St.
Atmore AL. 36502
Phone: 334-368-8577
17. The dynaflow trans is one tough unit. The early ones left much to be desired ,but by 57 thay were good. I pulled an Airstream trailer all over the country with my 57 Caballero in the 80s and never had a problem. I added a trans cooler and that was it ,and when I sold the car it was still working perfectly.
18. If you have a 65 401 available, you can use the TH400 that came with that engine. The only problem is that you will have to convert to an open drive rear end. This will really liven up your Buick ,and unless someone is really nosy , noone will ever know
19. The 350 engine runs well with the same specs. The later 350s with HEI have 8-10 initial and 36 total ,so you can use them and be awfully close. If you change the gear ,you can use them on a 455
20. Michigan has a year of manufacture plate law and I have numerous friends plus a couple of my cars that have non-original colors on the plates and it has even been taken to court and it is legal. The numbers are what is registered ,not the color. Other states may look at it differently ,but it's OK in MIch.
21. If you file a mark 1.78 inches from the existing mark on your harmonic balancer , you will find that when it reads zero on your timing tab it will be 30 degrees advance. The optimum timing for a 455 is 34-36 degrees at 2500 RPM. I try to set mine up with 10-12 ititial and 36 total
22. I have a set I purchased from Sears a year ago and I think they are great. They will remove nuts that have been rounded off and because they fit both metric and inch sizes ,they are perfect to carry in your car.
23. Happy New Year and I love The Touring is fun in 2001 slogan,
Joe Taubitz
24. We have 30 inches on the ground and it hasn't been above freezing for three weeks here in mich, but it is really beautiful and I have one car up front to work on ,so I'm set for awhile. Happy New Year to all the DFers

Joe Taubitz
