1. I forgot to add that shimming the spring will have no effect on idle pressure. it will only raise running pressure. I had a 58 Pontiac that carried 5 or 6 lbs, at idle and I worried for the first50,000 miles and when I sold it with 122,000 it still carried the same pressure
Joe T
2. 5 to 8 lbs. is scary, but it is all that is necessary. Most idiot lights go on at 7or8 lbs. As long as you have 10 lbs. per 1000 rpm you are in good shspe. Gm even makes some of their gages non=linear so they show higher than what they are at low RPM
3. 62 Invicta 4 dr. 401 4bbl engine runs good,power windows,steering and brakes.Car is drivable(wont go in reverse)
$500.00 OBO buickjoet@aol.com
4. If the intake manifold has tubes cast on the sides for the AIR system ,it is a 71 up 455
5. Mike,
I have a 200-4R in my 72 and unless you have a really tall gear in your 350 car ,you will love the OD . Your engine should not require many expensive mods to the trans and it will practically bolt in
Joe Taubitz
6. I believe that if the distance is shorter and you don't have any lifter noise then the valves are not the problem. If the distance is shorter, that means the lifter will toward the top of its travel shouldn't cause a problem. I would try changing the timing a little and checking to see if maybe the new ignition isn't causing the stumble.
7. My GS is a 72 convert, flame orange ,with a white top and interior. It has bucket seats ,console, AC, power windows and steering and brakes, and an AM-FM radio. It really is a joy to drive and it really frustrates the 5.0& Z28 kids when an old man in an old Buick blows their doors off
8. my GSis a 72convert, and it has a mild engine with a 3.31 gear. The engine is .030 with hypereutectic pistons ,an old SP1 cam, stage 1 heads ,a B4B intake,Q jet carb,KB headers with the 21/2 club exhaust with Flow masters, the old point ignition with a MSD-6A box, some bowl work on the heads and ports gasket matched. I use BFG drag radials(26X10) and a 200-4R .It ran 13.05-105 with the switch pitch and I know when I learn how to launch it with the 200-4R it will be quicker. I think I'll need a little more tire. The car weighs 3990 without my fat butt in the seat
9. I have a 200-4R in my 72GS and I used a corvette convertor and the TCI lockup kit and it works GREAT!
10. Ijust read the rest of your post ,and I like the 118 cam and B4B ,but B4Bs are getting hard to find. The Edelbrock performer is my next choice,as it is almost as good as the B4B. I really don't care for the Poston on a big block .
11. Sorry it took so long to get back, but I was at the street rod show in Kalamazoo all week endwith my 455 powered 37 coupe. The heads are not the determining factor for compression. the combustion chambers are the same.It is the pistons that change the compression. You can put 70 heads on a later block, but you can't put late heads on a 70 block as the water passages are different. The intakes will interchange if you block the manifold heat. if you look at the early and late heads you will see the differences I am talking about
12. If you can find an interstate with mile markings, the simple thing is to check your speedo against them. Find out what speed on your speedo give you 1 mile a minute and that will give you your speedo error. if you run a mile a mn at 40 MPH that will give you the percentage you need to figure what gear you will need.
13. I ran a switch pitch and it worked great! The only problem is ,if you want 12s you will need a gear and that means winding the engine on the road ,unless you put in the OD unit. When I switched to the 200-R4 the RPM drop on the highway was from 3300 at 70 to 2200 and the mileage was up 4MPG. My car is a72GS convert and with a mild engine and 3.31 gears it runs 13.0s
14. I have a 200-4R in my GS and I love it! It is a bolt in and it has a 2.76 first gear . The 700-R4 has a 3.05 first ,and the TH-400 has a 2.47 I used a TCI lock up and a corvette convertor and when I learn to launch it , I think it will be quicker than it was with the switch pitch ( it ran 13.05 ) The mileage went up 4 MPG

Joe Taubitz
15. The switch pitch is a convertor used from 64 to 67 and had the capability to shift the vanes in the convertor to give a higher stall. They do help launch the heavier cars ,but if you want a really great street-strip combination ,put in a 3.3-3.9 rear gear and put in a 200-4R. This will give you the best of both worlds, a 2.76 first gear and a .30 overdrive
16. I forgot to mention ,I live in Michigan
17. It's too bad you live so far away, because I have a 62 Invicta 4 dr. that runs well and you can have the whole car for $400.00 and it has working power windows and power steering and brakes. the dynaflow will not back up ,but I drove the car home
18. If you go with a B4B ,be sure to get the late style,as the early one won't cover the AIR holes and you will have to plug them. If you plug the AIR holes and the carb heat holes ,you can run any buick 455 manifold and not worry about burning the paint
19. Bob Beaton ( one of the founders of the BDE) is trying to set up something with the Buick dealer network. You might want to contact him. His E-mail is :buickbob@tnh.net
20. I would suggest the 200-4R rather than the 700-R4 as it is a bolt up to the V6 and is available in lots of rear drive units. The 700-R4 requires an apapter plate
21. Centurion, keep us appraised of what is going on ,and let me know if there is something I can do from the Flint end.
Joe Taubitz
BCA 1308
buickjoet@aol.com
22. Your E-mail address is wrong,as every time I send you a reply it comes back .
The business coupe has nothing behind the front seat. There is a small rise just so you have a flat floor. The sport coupe had 2 seats hinged to the side of the car under the quarter window. If you can look in and see the side you will be able to tell, but that is the only way I know
23. The odl car value guide says:
#1-42,000
#2-29,400
#3-16,800
#4-8,400
#5-5,050
24. The type A is compatible with the fluid in your dynaflow . This is dexron ,mercon . The ford fluid will work ,but could cause trouble
25. The Leroy,
If it is a sport coupe it will have a jump seat under each quarter window. The 37&38 had a sill molding that fit over the rounded edge of the sill. It was aluminum and this may be what you are seeing
