  1. I first met "EJ " at Mcbride ( it is now "Central Michigan Dragway ) in 1958. He became friends with The Arfons brothers, and they told him that he could go on tour with his bike and make a living. EJ lived the life he wanted and will always be remembered for being a GREAT guy
  2. When the "CB" rule was put in place, not everyone had cell phones. I have yet to figure out how you can talk to 30 cars at once on the phone. Yopu can text them , but that is illegal in many states, unless you have a co -pilot. As far as the 6=12 volt issue, a jump box works just fine . You can also install a 6-12 invertor. I found that the jump box works better asyou don;t get as much engine noise ( plugs firing etc.)
  3. I Flikt Mich ( hometown of Buick ) used Buicks for many years. The City police got tired of being outrun by young people in fast cars, They used Chevies before.
  4. It is YOUR car !!! Do what you want to it and if some prople don't like it SO WHAT That is the problem with the hobby today . Too many people are worried about what somenoe else thinks. Build it the way you want it and ENJOY it
  5. Bob She makes great "golumpkies" She cooks VERY well. That is why I'm fat
  6. Bob and Derek My polish wife makes GOOD tourtieres !! She was taught by my Greandma who lived in Quebec
  7. This is one od the reasons I no longer belong to the BCA !!!! Everyone is so worried about "correctness" that they can't just enjoy their Buicks
  8. According to an article I read about the fiberglass car , it was supposedly at the Sloan Museum for awhile. I was very active at the Sloan from 1971 through 1991 ,and never heard a thing about it
  9. Sid With the weather like it is , I am impressed that you can take GREAT pictures like this
  10. There was a memorial service for him in Howell MIch ( his home town) and I attended . The towns folks remembered him as we do, a GREAT guy , a real gentleman, and as we know, one of the most knowledgable men on Buick history ever
  11. I went by Tuesday as they were unloading the new statue, and was pleased to note that there was a lot of help !!!!
  12. I got my license at 14 in 1947. Michigan law allowed that until September ,and I turned 14 in August. My first car was a 1931 Buick and I drove it until I found a 1937 Century 4 door with side mounts. I immediately installed the dual carbs from a 41-42 and split the exhaust. I drove it for about 1 year and passed my Dad doing over 100 MPH. The 37 was IMMMEDIETELY taken away and my Dad sold it and bought a 1939 Pontiac 6 . I drove that through the rest of high school (senior year) and it wouldn't run 80 MPH over a cliff, but it probably keptt me alive
  13. Thank You for stepping up Lamar . I think it is great to have a fresh perspective on the job .Roberta has done it for a LOOOONG time ,and I am sure she will appreciate the help.
  14. The powers that be at BMD continue to "mess with success " !! They killed the best engine ever built by Buick ( the 3800) so they might just as well kill the logo
  15. I live 3 miles from Roberta, and can vouch for the fact that she has done an almost impossible job . She is not only the Webmaster for the BCA, but also takes care of our local chapter, the GS Club of America, the Back to the Bricks meet in Flint which has developped into one of the largest car meets in the country, and numerous other things which I am sure she does. This is on top of flying back and forth to NY to care for her parents. I am amazed she stuck it out this long !!!!
  16. Congratulations Mark !! You earned this award by showing people what Old Cars are for Thank You
  17. The Buick community lost one of the best .I am sorry to hear that he is gone, but he will be remembered always by the people who were fortunate enough to know him
  18. My 1940 Super has 2 keys. One opens the everything but the glove box , and the other does the doors-trunk and ignition
  19. I met Terry in 1971 when he came to Flint MI to see about getting the first BCA National meet going. He has been a driving force in the BCA since the first and we will be praying for him. He has been a good friend through the years
  20. Very well put Mr Beck. I think that many of us change through the years ,and because everything else doesn't, we become disenchanted. As I have gotten older, I find it harder to enjoy the cars as I did when I was 60-70 .
  21. I can understand the problems with the terms, but that is not what My problem is . The old car hobby started with people getting together to enjoy their cars. Through the years the "hobby" has evolved into something entirely different. In the BCA all the emphasis on the cars is reserved for the 400 point vehicles. The driven cars are given their medallions on the field and are treated like second class members. These are the cars that are drivn to the meet ,and the ones that are the promoters of the club. I have some friends that trailer their cars and they are the exceptions to the rule , as they come to all the meetings and enjoy the tours. As Bryan stated , most of the members that "go for the gold" are members in name only
  22. The hobby is promoted much better by the person DRIVING their antique. Cars in boxes do NOT promote the hobby !! Many of the trailered cars are also not correct, but the judges ( many of them ) don't know the difference.
  23. I have been preaching this for years, and it seems that many of the clubs are suffering from the same problem. If the hobby is going to survive, it will need members like this guy !!!!
  24. I agree with Keith !!!! Iwas very active in the BCA until it became a business. I joined in 1969, and stopped paying dues this year. This is NOT the BCA I joined !!!!
